BMW RT1100 v RT1150

Advantageshandling, performance, functionality

DisadvantagesPrice, BMW dealerships being too busy at the moment!

"...looks and characters of the BMW brigade, so the Honda Pan European wasn't an option. If it was, that would be a difficult choice! So what about the 1150? Waiting lists are long and dealerships are really busy at the moment - is it worth the wait? I have to say no! Sure the new linked brakes offer fantastic stopping power (touch the rear brake pedal and electronics apply front brake automatically). The horn is superb in comparison to the 1100 and ..." BMW R1100RT. The riders bike.

AdvantagesWeather protection, comfort, handling, fuel range etc.

DisadvantagesPoor headlamp, people think you are too old for bikes when you buy a BMW

"The BMW R1100RT is by far the BEST moorcycle for someone who likes touring at high (or low) speeds, and who likes to cover large distances at the same time. I have been riding for 37 years and have riden every type of machine there are. I feel the bMW is the best machine I have ever owned (up to now) I like the comfort. The weather protection, The handling, and the performance. On paper it isn't that quick, and to be fair it isn't, but we all know ..." Read review

24,000 miles with R1100RT

AdvantagesComfort, handling, its a Beemer

DisadvantagesIts a beemer, running cost , silly design faults, headlight.

"I purchased my RT in Jan 1998 new for £11,000. Being 6ft 4in and 18 stone it really was the only option for a daily commute of 120 miles. For the first year I commuted daily but now only commute about two to three times a week. My overall impression is that the bike is excellent, very comfortable easy to ride and actually very easy through traffic. Fuel consumption is good about 40mpg or 210 miles on a tank to the reserve light. The gearbox at times ..." Read review

Quick review of BMW R1100RT

"Eats up the miles effortlessly, sips fuel 360 km per tank and that's not hanging about, handles like a bike half it's weight. All adjustable seat, gear change and windscreen. If you are serious about doing the miles it's a no brainer: R1100RT .

R1100RT - Respect that lasts.

AdvantagesDoes not draw attention to itself; it just plain works.

DisadvantagesInexpensive to buy - so it snags you in, expensive to keep in top trim.

"...I have always wanted a BMW Airhead. Don't know why, but I held off until last year - and good thing that I did. Had I purchased a BMW first, I would not had anything to compare it against - nor would I have been wise enough to accomodate its flaws. Flaws? Yes - but like that special mole on a lover's butt, what wonderful flaws indeed. The R1100RT will be remembered as a special bike - as the R100RT was, but not the R1150RT or perhaps the present ..." King of comfort

Advantagesdesing, fuel consumption, riding position

Disadvantagesweight, gear changes a little noisy

"...strongest points in this motorcycle. BMW has made history with this boxer engine, with 90 HP and plenty of torque, it is elastic and very dependable when requested. The gadgets are fenomenal. You have a eletric windshield, heated grips, ABS, CD player and a very comfortable passenger seat. There is 3 enormous load compartments, two side bags and a huge top case, in which you can easily lock your helmets. The fuel tank can hold a very good amount of ..." Read review
