BT - The 1MB Broadband Connection - UPDATED

Advantages: 1MB Fast Connection, Reliable 24-7, Fast Download times
Disadvantages: Poor Technical Support

...as AOL, Tiscali, NTL and BT offering a range of services at differing prices. We decided we needed an ISP that could offer us a 1MB Internet connection, to ensure fast download times, and high-speed access. *Comparisons – BT, AOL and Tiscali* With BT and AOL you are required to run a postcode check, on there website, to see if you are able to connect to a 1MB Service. AOL also advised that you require either a BT Line or live in an NTL Cabled area. ...
...you needed to be a BT Customer. Prices: BT were the most expensive of the three at GBP38.00 a month (this includes a 1GBP discount for ordering online), AOL was priced at GBP34.99 and Tiscali didn’t appear to offer a 1mb line. Their best price was for a 512Kb at GBP24.99 a month. ************** UPDATED - Price Check Upon opening my latest piece of mail from BT, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have reduced the price of their 1MB service ...

The End of the Road for BT Highway

Advantages: Good Technical Support, Fast & Reliable
Disadvantages: No SMTP support (details in the review), Cocked up Order, 12 Month Contract

...If you’ve read my BT review, you’ll know that I had a natty little device called a highway box – which did away with a conventional modem. Rather than having an annoying, beeping analogue jobbie which tied up my phone line, I had a digital ISDN connection to the internet – which connected within about 2 seconds. Although getting on-line was fast, you still had many of the pain in the arse choices you faced with an old modem. You could either shell ...
...engineering. And that’s what BT have been doing for quite some time. They’ve installed a whole heap of new stuff at telephone exchanges which allows vast quantities of data to be beamed through our existing phone lines and sockets. Because BT own the majority of the telephone hardware, it would be unfair of them to have a complete monopoly on the ADSL market – so they are forced to sell this service to a whole host of new broadband providers. Which ...

BT Total Broadband

Advantages: Reliability

...as recently featured on watchdog BT was voted the best broadband provider. Not only that but has been voted the best provider for 3 years running. It has also been voted the best on reliability, so you know for sure you are going to get a guaranteed excellent service. Though BT has a higher price compared to most other suppliers, I went for BT based on the service been reliable and was more than happy to pay extra for that security. Going onto ...

...so (more on this later). BT Yahoo! Broadband was then the next obvious choice. BT is a large, reputably company that has made great strides to try and encourage people to convert to broadband, and as a newbie to home broadband it seemed the best place to start. As with almost all providers, you will need to sign a one-year contract for their service. However, BT attracted me for several reasons. At £29.99 per month for the 1Mbps service, it was a ...
...for the service via the BT broadband website, http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_info.jsp. The process was quick and easy, beginning with a test for compatibility with your phone number, and has the advantage of the free connection and modem offer, which would have cost £25 if ordered via telephone. To get 1Mbps broadband, you will need to live within 4km (soon 6km) of your local exchange, though the online test will tell you instantly if you can receive ...

...such a bad time with BT broadband. I will try and balance this review out as much as I can as I understand that it is important to leave a two sided review. ...a long time customer of BT I have always remained loyal and never really had the urge to pack my proverbial bags and head off to the sunny climes of Another Telecoms Company. The way I see it is you can't beat good service, which I have always had from BT, plus even if other companies' prices are slightly more attractive, the worry that the customer service won't compare always keeps me from making the leap. Recently OFCOM (the regulatory body for ...
...on BT lines and calls. Which is great news. One of the main reasons BT have always been slightly more expensive than everyone else is because of the OFCOM regulations. Think about it - at one point BT held the market share of customers - if they'd been able to set really low prices all the time then other, smaller telecom companies wouldn't have got a look in. Now that the market share is more evenly spread, and OFCOM are taking away the restrictions ...

Disadvantages: Too expensive.

BT Yahoo Broadband. As I have mentioned loads of times in my previous reviews, I am a computing student. And having the internet is vital for my studies. I was using a dial up modem service with Wanadoo – Which was OK. But then I realised that I needed to download big files from the internet and wasted half a night doing this (when the assignment has to be handed in the next day). The solution to this was Broadband. I only had one problem. Couldn’t ...

They all registered and I even see notices on the local community notice board for people to register and to let everyone know what broadband is. So a few months later, I got an email from BT saying that broadband was coming my way. And recommended me to pre-register ...

BT Broadband - Just poor tech support

Advantages: Speed, connectivity and friendly customer services
Disadvantages: Inefficient technical support

I had BT broad band installed about 9 months ago. The sales team were expedient and friendly and the engineer attended my flat within 2 weeks and in the allotted time slot. I was impressed at this point by the level of service. The BT hub etc arrived by special delivery within the next week and all worked very very well up until about 3 months ago. My internet wouldn't connect and a message continually popped up saying that no connection was available. ...

Still i guess it's the thought that counts. I did however ask them about a refund for the period when the service was down. I was told my account would automatically be credited. On receipt of my next bill my account had not been credited ...

BT Broadband Option 3 - Best ISP in UK

Advantages: Great Service, Brilliant Connection, Fantastic Add ons
Disadvantages: Most expensive

...I was drawn to getting BT Broadband, as not only did it offer its own BT Home Hub Router and great speed, but as I went with BT Broadband Option 3, it came with a bunch of extras I’ll discuss below. Now I’ve got to say straight off that BT isn’t the cheapest provider in the UK, and honesty I don’t care that I am paying a premium to be with the best Internet Provider in the UK. When subscribing for BT Option 3, you are advertised in getting a reasonable ...
...that is using the standard BT Router they provide, if I had a hardcore router, I may get 3mb/s! I would also like to mention that they are boosting the signal up to 20mb soon. The equipment they provide is outstanding, unlike the other providers, who send you some Thompson junk, BT send you their own BT Home Hub and Phone, it looks pretty good and the phone is very nice as well, not some cheap one you pick up at Currys for £10, but quite strongly ...

BT my longterm partner

Advantages: 8MB speed, good customer service, everything works
Disadvantages: none so far

My relationship with BT over the years has been similar to an unfaithful partner in a marriage, I have been seduced by big offers, but always let down by the reality behind the lip gloss and foundation. So with head bowed I submitted my online application for BT Broadband. In the hope that at last I would learn my lesson and not stray again from the faithful, reliable service which was there all the time. Admittedly it was fate that brought us ...
...So what is it about BT that we should be thankful for. Well having been the sole supplier of telecommunications for over 80 years they do know something about their business, and as far as supplying Broadband they pursue the same simple clear cut formula, you pay for the service you require, the equipment is sent out, you connect up on the appointed day. And away you go. It was really as simple as that. The Tariffs ££££££££ BT Broadband is available ...

Disadvantages: Extremely poor customer services, constant problems with connection,

...I'm stuck with BT now till January 2009 although when I phoned up to try and cancel they said if I was having serious problems I could. I have been complaining once a week by email as I do not want to spend another minute on the phone to them. Each email I send is a similar complaint but each time I get a different answer. You don't actually pay £8.00 for the first 6 months, instead you get charged for signing up and a few ...

BT Broadband and the Home-Hub

Advantages: Great service, great device
Disadvantages: Basic DECT phone which is expensive, lack of connectivity compared to other devices

BT Broadband Talk with HomeHub is a great all-in-one package for people who want the best broadband experience. If you use BT for your home phone charges (which most people do), combining your home phone and internet package seems like a very sensible option - consolidated into one direct debit, on one bill, from one company - an instant advantage of going with BT for both. If you're getting broadband for the first time, or switching providers, BT ...
...to broadband, getting it from BT really couldn't be simpler, right from ordering through to actually using. The Homehub comes in as part of a nice package - complete with a digital dect phone. The phone can be use in the dock attached to the hub, or in the dock by itself, which I was pleasantly surprised about. I wanted a phone for my desk, but didn't want to have the actual hub router on my desk too, so when I found out that they can detach, I was ...
