If at first you don't succeed

Advantages: Cheap and effective
Disadvantages: Poor quality control means lots of visits to B&Q

...laminate, and we discovered that B&Q had a new product, "Floormaster Loc laminate flooring" which was REALLY CHEAP. Only £11.99 per pack. Darn good value when everything else was in the £20-£30 league. We got underlay and 8 boxes of the stuff and took it home. There was still lots to do, so the laminate sat there acclimatising and being flat until it became time for laying. ------------------- The process ------------------- Floormaster Loc ...
...broken interlocking tongues. B&Q were very good about exchanging them, but I had to make far too many visits. On the first visit I returned a single box. On the next visit I returned two more boxes. Out of these boxes there were enough duff planks to make up yet another box. Which was swapped. In fact, people had clearly been opening packs in the store on my last visit and taking good planks to make up a whole pack of quality floor. Doorways -------------- ...

Easiloc

Advantages: reasonable price, nice tile styles
Disadvantages: poor quality, easily damaged, difficult to install, falls apart in weeks

I recently underwent the misfotune of installing this product in our brand new 3mx7m conservatory. On opening the packs, some lengths were already damaged, the edges are also very easily damaged when installing. Initially installation seems quite straightforward, however when you start on the second row you realise it isn't all plain sailing when you get to the third length because the installation method requires you to lift the whole row. This ...
...length coming away. To get round this earlier boards have to be weighed down. Installation then becomes very physical because to get the boards to slide and click in place actually requires them to be lifted nearer to 7cm rather than the 3cm quoted in the instructions. I'm a powerlifter and had trouble with it so how people of lesser strength would cope I do not know. There is a nack to it which requires you to lie on the floor and use your whole ...

How To Avoid Carpet Burns.

Advantages: Easy cleaning, Great for skating, Hard wearing
Disadvantages: Slippery, noisy

Afew months ago we finally got round to ripping out the nasty old carpet in our lounge, and painted the walls a lovely reddy / orange colour. We'd been saving hard ( Ahem, ok, hubby got his redundancy payout from Parcelforce ) and finally it was time to choose my dream carpet. Hubby then chose to announce his plan...to laminate our living room floor. Many arguements ( sorry Jimmy, discussions ) later, I caved in. Hubby had done his research. How ...
...so many reasons that carpet was an unsuitable choice for people with a lifestyle like ours. Jimmy : " Dustmites live in carpets. They contribute towwards bad respiratory illnesses such as asthma. Do you want our daughter to suffer needlessly? " Tray : " Oh. " Jimmy : " We are sociable people, who have alot of visitors. They are mainly my Guiness drinking mates, who wrecked the last carpet with spillages of the black stuff. " Tray : " Oh. " Jimmy ...

Flooring to go !!! - B&Q style.

Advantages: Cost effective, loads of choice. Helpful resources to assist the D.I Y-er.
Disadvantages: packaging not always effective.

...comparing prices at different outlets B&Q rates highly for choice and price. They know thier markets.! Because it is a "toilet" and not in constant view I selected a B&Q pack of 11 tiles for just £6.98.each tile being 330x330mm and 98mm thick.(limited colour range.) Two packs covered the area in question. An adhesive and grout mix ( under £20.00 to cover upper to 1.8 metres) and Tile cutter (under £20.00) increased the price, but on the whole B&Q ...
...would not hesitate to recommend B&Q when planning and pricing for flooring products. I would however pass comment on thier packaging! It could do with modifying somewhat , to strengthen and secure such bulky items. They also offer the "price promise" whereby they match or offer discount if you can prove better pricing elsewhere ! This in my experiance is honoured. Also in thier favour is that they accept returns with packaging and receipt available ...

Review of B&Q Flooring

The next person who says it's easy gets a slap!

Advantages: easy to clean, looks good, can be cheaper than carpeting, great if you have children or pets running in and out
Disadvantages: difficult to put together

We had taken the carpet up in my bedroom- we did it while my younger son had some friends over for the afternoon and we threw the old carpet down the stairs..they thought we were mad. So we were left with bare floorboards. They were not in dreadful condition but it would have taken some sanding to get them in a lovely condition to varnish, and we have asthma so the potential dust would have been a problem. We thought we would get some laminated flooring ...
...We moved all of the furniture out of my room- luckily we have a big house and we could move it out and stand it around in corridors and other rooms, but nevertheless, it did look crowded. My room looked huge! That's something you have to consider if you are going to laminate your floors- what will you do with the furniture while you are doing it? You can't stand it on the stuff you have just done becasue it distorts it - so think about that before ...

Floored

Advantages: easy to wipe clean, better for asthmatic children and more hygienic than carpet
Disadvantages: shows dirt quicker than carpet and can be noisier

My friend has recently installed a new laminate floor. He did all the work himself, it only took him two days and was a third of the cost of a carpet. I thought of many reasons for him not to do it:- 1. The room would seem colder 2. It would scratch easily as they have 3 kids and a dog 3. It would start to lift if anything was spilled 4. It would not be comfortable to sit on. 5. It would be noisy 6. It would be harder to keep looking clean 7. There ...
...weeks later I take it all back. The room doesn't feel colder at all, in fact the rich colour of the wood makes it look warmer. One of his sons is always rolling around on the floor with cars but they don't scratch the surface and neither does the dog. The surface is tougher than I expected. Any spills are easily wiped up but I still wonder what would happen if there was a slow leak or a spill wasn't noticed. It is no colder than a carpet to sit on ...

get laying and suffer NO more carpet burns

Advantages: 10 yr guarantee, easy to clean and maintain
Disadvantages: have found none at present

...in. We purchased some B&Q interlocking flooring, which is priced at around £23 for 2.15 sqm, and needs no glueing as the pieces are all fully interlocking. When the packs are purchased they have to be stood for about 48 hours in the room, where it is to be laid, to allow for any expansion. Underlay has to be placed onto the floor first, again this was bought from B&Q, it is basically a white 2mm thick foam that just lies on the floor under the ...
...is easy to lay, the peices are just cut to size and they are slotted into place by the interlocking system, now how easy is that!!!!! As we had already removed the old skirting board, this made it even easier, as once the floor was laid, the skirting was situated in placed which eliminated the need for any beading to be used around those edges, it was just needed at the doorways. The reason I chose laminated flooring was mainly because I do suffer ...

Lessons learnt from laying laminate

Advantages: Easy to lay, easy to clean, looks great when finished
Disadvantages: Static, static, static

...some things I discovered about B&Q flooring which you might find useful if you are considering it. We chose the B&Q Loc 900 in light oak effect - I think they've changed the names slightly since, but it's the standard, no-glue flooring, rather than the more water resistant version which is an extra fiver a pack. We have a large living room, about 18' x 19' and also planned to use the same flooring through the hall and downstairs loo - according ...
...no 1. Don't buy the B&Q 'How to lay your laminate floor' video. The flooring has changed since the video was made and now fits together in a different manner to that shown in the video so it's almost entirely inappropriate. Some of the tips still apply but you probably know those anyway. Tip no 2. B&Q appear to use at least two different sources of manufacture for their flooring. Most of mine were made in Belgium, but a few packs were made in 'Chrk' ...

...wanted and then went to B&Q . B&Q had a fairly good range and we bought Floor master tile L O C in a sort of terracotta stone colour. This flooring has a ceramic tile effect and is sold in packs to cover 1.748 sq metres each pack cost £31 we needed 4 packs we also bought some underlay. The tiles have a 12-year guarantee and are suitable for heavy domestic use not suitable for use in a sauna. Well we were eager to lay it and undid the bags the ...

The first 2 were easy to lay the tile strips had an easy locking system running around it a bit like tongue and groove the first two fitted together wonderfully. The third one we had to cut to fit the gap left between fitted tiles and the end of the room. We had bought a special saw for that cost about £4.It was reasonably easy to cut. Well we fitted the next row and the next row. Sections ...

No More Carpet Stains For Me!

Advantages: Looks great, easy to fit
Disadvantages: Slippery, can chip easilly

...that we both work for B&Q decided that we would have a good look there whilst at work. However my real concern about buying it from there was the number of packs that I had seen being returned over time. On looking into this further it appeared to be that 80% of those coming back were the special offer one for about £10 per pack. So at that point we knew we were not going for that. On looking through the rest of the range of flooring with the help ...
...flooring expert we came across some Beech laminate flooring that we just lock together without glue for just over £20 per pack. After a few calculations we had worked out we were going to need approximately 12 packs. Although this could work out quite expensive by the time we had purchased the underlay etc it was still cheaper than a decent carpet and this we could try and fit ourselves. So we purchased all the accessories we needed, the underlay ...

time saver

Advantages: no hidden mess or stains and helps ease asthma
Disadvantages: not wise to walk around in socks

I moved in to my house less than a year ago and bought a lovely new (and not cheap) carpet, what a mistake. When after a few months the carpet was already looking years old flooring was the only option for people told me it wasn't a good idea to get wooden flooring because i had a young child at home and carpet would be better, but my mind was set. These B7Q floor board can change the appearance of any room dramatically creating an outstanding effect among the home. This may help you ...

Advantages: Easy to install once you know how.. looks good
Disadvantages: slight chips on some boards

I bought 13 packs of the laminate flooring from B & Q and being that it was on offer at the time, I had my reservations about getting the cheaper range. I worked out how to install the first row very easily.. by working from left to right, placed the first plank down then put another on its end, sat it at 30 degrees, line up the boards and then put it down flat. You may have to wiggle or push the board to close the gap up. The first row was no ...
...bought an installation kit which contained a tapping block. To use this block, you have to lay a plank onto the previous row then using the tapping block, push the plank towards the plank on its left until it clicks in... but what this does is squashes the end of the plank at the join and stops the boards from joining up nicely.... After an hour I had an idea which was to join the boards to create a second row then , in one piece, join them to the ...

B&Q Chequer Plate Lino laying

Advantages: Easy Clean, Warm, Looks Good
Disadvantages: Size Of Roll, Cutting Strait Edges!

...at somthing different. In B&Q we found silver lino in this patten they had the 2metre roll in but it also comes in 3 and 4 mtr rolls. It is £7.99 a sq metre so making a few rough drawing to work out how much we could use laying and cutting it in different ways we decides that with a bit of patching we needed 6mtr of it (still cheaper than metal!). This lino was in their heavy wearing range which means it has got quite a thick back on it, some of ...

We had pulled up the carpet already, screwed down those few loose floor boards and layed some sheets of hardboard (the lino must have a smooth surface underneath or quickly the uneven boards will mark and come through even thick lino) down. I worked out exactly which directions I was going to cut it first and re checked it several times before i wasted ...

Review of B&Q Flooring

B&Q Floormaster Easi-loc beech laminate flooring

Advantages: Cheap, nice appearance.
Disadvantages: Some boards not cut perfectly straight so tricky to fit.

Easi-loc by name but not easi-loc by nature! The first two rows went down easily but trouble started on row 3. The problem was that not all the boards are cut entirely straight, which meant it was very difficult for adjacent rows to fit properly (some were very slightly convex and some very slightly concave). Over the whole floor, this caused slight gaps in either the middle or one of the ends to occur, and made it very difficult to get the boards ...
...whose facing edge would match the previous one (judging by eye). Also a lot of brute force to shove them together! Fortunately, we had bought more boards than needed so we were able to select the best fit for each row. If you buy this product, make sure you buy at least one or two spare packs. All in all, a small room (8 x 11 ft) took two people nearly a whole weekend, but now it's down, it looks and feels fine. ...
