Advantages: Reasonably priced goods Disadvantages: Worst working environment in Britain!
I worked for B&Q for six months to support me with income when I was a student. Three months full time then another three months part time (4 days a week). I would never recommend that anyone choose to work there, as in my particular store, I was completely abused in my working role there. I was put on the Showrooms department, selling and advising on kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories. I was given minimal to no training on the subjects. I learnt ... ...My colleagues were extremely lazy and unhelpful. I was often left to run the whole section alone as a 20 year-old student, on Saturdays and Sundays. One particular individual working on my section would deliberately deal with minor complaints, promise rectification and then bin the customers telephone number and ignore it, leaving myself to deal with the understandably angry and upset customers to take their temper out on me between 6 and 8pm on ...

Advantages: Literally a one stop shop Disadvantages: running out of stock, could do with a points reward card
You know when you get to the stage in a house when you hate it with intent and you feel like taking a sledgehammer to every wall - well we’ve just been through that. We re-mortgaged and had some spare cash left which we have spent on the house. Rooms to be re-done, re-designed were living room, kitchen and bathroom. Progress so far is Kitchen is finished – but still no table and chairs purchased. Bathroom is a tip all the paint brushes ... ...is finally finished – my dad hates the sight of laminate wood now, its not as easy to fit as they make out, especially in an old house like mine that doesn’t possess a straight wall. Advantages: Close by Disadvantages: 'Special orders'
Get yourself a cuppa. This could take a while. I'm gonna tell you about the Beckton (London) branch and the sorry saga that is my fencing, or more specifically, lack thereof. B&Q - paints, wallpaper, garden stuff even rugs. You name it, and they probably stock it. Huge warehouses full of goodies for the humble and not so humble abode. It's the first stop for most households when a little DIY is required. It's mine too. I've never had any problems ... ...events. 6 panels of 'eyecatcher' fencing is exactly what my garden needs. A little privacy from the nice neighbours. Perfect screening for summer dining - when it finally arrives. Off I went to B&Q to have a gander at their fencing. I'd seen the eyecatcher panels before so knew they stocked them. I was a little disappointed to note that they had currently sold out, "But no matter Mr Taylor. New stock will be here on Monday." What is the first name you think of when it comes to DIY? Usually B&Q, I have a monster sized store close to home with just about everything you could think of for DIY needs in stock.
Trouble is the staff can't match the expectations of the store & it has become the situation where I use B&Q as a last resort. In April past I wanted the price of 3 tonnes of loose gravel for my drive way & garden, I had measured up the area & went to B&Q to get a ... ...to be served a young lad informed me that the person I need to speak to was at lunch & could I come back. I found it hard to believe that an enormous store like this had only one person employed to give me a quote but gave my phone number (on my business card) to the young lad who agreed to get the staff member to phone me back.
Two days later after no one had phoned, I contacted them but no one knew of my request or estimate & no one at the time ...

Advantages: Cheap goods Disadvantages: not that much quality
B&Q are by far the cheapest DIY store around. I thought it is just a lot of posh talk on the adverts but it is true. The competitors do try and have special offers on certain items to woo you away, but B&Q are cheaper accross the board. Example being? Last night I went to Homebase and B&Q to buy some paint and a new mitre saw blade.. The cheapest own brand paint that Homebase sold was 11.99 for White emulsion. B&Q Do a tin twice the size for 8.45. ... ...I must say. It had the consitency and thickness of water. The mitre Saw that I bought 12 months from B&Q cost me 6.99. The nearest Homebase equivalent was £12 yesterday!!! how can this be justified??? not all of the prices are this different but I noticed B&Q flooring was £2 a pack cheaper too!!! Come along Competition, you have some catching up to do or B&Q will own the market soon. ...

All right, I am being a bit unfair but B&Q has a major problem. The queues!
Prices
B&Q is a cheap store all-round, my local store is just outside Belfast in a complex called Abbeycentre and there are plenty of DIY stores for people to choose from. Most people go to B&Q because it is by far the cheapest. For example, a typical pack of seeds (tomatoes-gardeners delight) cost 99p in B&Q and £1.45 in most other stores, or even more. The car parking is adequate, no more, no less. The car park is almost always full but I have never had problems finding a space. From Belfast, you can easily get a bus but unless, you plan to widow shop or buy small items only, you should never travel with public transport. You could probably travel by train but that's just stupid. (As I explained in some other opinion)

Save money at B&Q on building materials, Its cheaper than your local builder's merchant. I purchased 300 bricks,7 bags of ballast, 7 bags of building sand and 3 bags blue circle cement which cost only £118 for a job i am doing on friday. My local B nad Q is a massive store and I do sometimes have trouble finding requred items in it, as the choice is so large!!! However ,there is plenty of free parking outside, the staff and pleasant and helpful and the prices are cheaper than the local competion. A low price quarantee is helpful that they can not be bettered on price, although I have never had to try it. Queues can sometimes be rather long and I do sometimes wish a few more checkouts ...

An excellent hardware shop. The warehouse near our house sells almost everything possible, millions of pounds worth of stock. I think you could build a house from all the tools they sell. They can satisfy just about everyone’s price range, they have stuff that’s cheap, reasonable or very expensive.
The good thing about B&Q is that you can buy all your D.I.Y things from there, no need to shop around as they have very competitive prices. ... ...the difference. They always have discounts on anyway so their prices are quite cheap. But it all depends on what you are buying.
The staff are very helpful, they helped us chose which shades of colours would be best appropriate when we were painting our hall way. The customer service is very good they spend a lot of time with you and most importantly are happy to do so.
If you do plan on going down to B&Q beware it’ll take you a couple of ...

Advantages: Discount card on Wednesdays, often equal basic prices. Disadvantages: Smaller product ranges in the ordinary stores.
If you are over 60, and have a B&Q 10% discount card which can be used on a Wednesday in the ordinary stores, prices will almost invariably be cheaper than in the Warehouses where the cards cannot be used. I have extensively compared the prices in the two types of outlet, and find that many prices are identical, and some are just a few pence cheaper.
Even if you do not have the discount card, I recommend checking the availability of anything you ...

We went to B&Q today for the first time and it was an eye opener. All the way around the store we were constantly being blocked by obstacles in the aisles and having to find alternative routes ,they seem to want to cram as much in as possible even if it means blocking walkways. And all the time I had the un easy feeling that it wasn't safe because everything is piles so high on very high shelves that it looks as if it was about to fall. And going ... ...of gravel piled so high you couldn't see the top and as we had our 8 month old daughter in the trolly i just had to get out of there very fast. Maybe it was just me but this looks like an accident waiting to happen. But apart from the saftey aspect we did compare a few prices with Homebase and on the whole we found then to be cheaper then Homebase, sometimes by a few pence sometimes more. Having moved house (again) to somewhere that needs a lot of work doing to it, we've found for the second time that B&Q is invaluable.
We must have spent a small fortune in there, but it's all really cheap. The B&Q Warehouses are far better than the normal B&Q - there's a wider range of items and it's all at reasonable prices.
They have experts as well - so if you get stuck with a plumbing problem you can ask their resident plumber for advice etc. ... ...need, and not what you should get, if you undertsand what I mean.
The refunds policy is excellent too - if you need to take anything back you can either get a refund or swap it for the correct item.
The only problem is that they have loads of really nice things for the house and garden that I don;t really need but would love to buy.
If you've got a Time Card that youc an use in Woolworths etc then you can also use it in B&Q. ...

I could not believe the difference in price between a recently purchased wall paper stripper from B & Q. I paid £29.99 for the stripper (wallpaper) at B & Q. I think this his the best place to go for all your DIY goods. I never used to go there very often but they really do seem to have made a real effort to offer a wide range of goods at very reasonable prices. I bought a shed from them a few months ago it has very slight damage to the floor, which wouldn’t have made any difference at all, and because it was slightly damaged they knocked £40 off the price. B & Q is one of those places that you can look around at any time and see something you want!, they have an extensive range of products.
We recently bought a gas barbecue there and it was excellent, the assistants are always helpful too. You can even get paint mixed to the shade you want, however check around first as this is quite pricey!
