Badminton is my favourite sport. The main reason for this is that it's the first sport I found I was good at. It's a great game for beginners and experts. I've been playing for several years now. It's the sort of game where picking up the basics is quite easy (make contact between the racket and shuttle) but mastering the skills can take a lot longer. I would just like to say that badminton is not just indoor tennis. The two games are very different. I once did (accidentally) a badminton smash while playing tennis and my wrist hurt for the rest of the day. I know some people who can play both ... more

First let’s make a little orthography lesson. The exact writing of that sport is “ Badminton” not Badmington (nothing in common with the Chinese art) or any other weird writing. # A little bit of History # The academic kind of Badminton that is play nowadays only appears in 1873 but much earlier in China India or in northern America several kind of Shuttlecock play existed. The Indian kind named Poona (this kind was played with a little ball) In 1872 some English lords back from India met in the Beaufort Castle. As they were drinking Champagne they talked about memories they had about India ... more

A few months ago if you asked me to go for a game of badminton I would have laughed in your face. The truth is now I am going to play tonight and wish I could afford to go a lot more. To be honest I am lousy at badminton. I miss more times than I hit the thing but I still really like it. I have a stupid idea stuck in my head that it will help me get fit and I will lose some weight but in the mean time I will continue to enjoy it. Badminton is derived from the ancient game of battledore and shuttlecock (they had weird and wonderful names for sports back then, didn’t they?) The modern game ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages you will be wrecked but its worth it

Badminton, very often the forgotten racquet sport is actually one of the best. After Simon Archer and Jo Goodes success in the Olympic Games surely more people should be interested but at my club in Belfast we have had no new members at all. Why? Because badminton doesn't get the coverage on TV it deserves. It's not a wonder we're not really all that good at badminton as a nation! Badminton is a fantastic sport it incorporates skill, fitness, accuracy and power. The basic rules of the game are very simple and are different for doubles as from singles. In singles the server always starts from ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, durable and and all round beauty.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for weaker players, due to the weight - but most player will be fine.

The Yonex ISO Muscle Power 77 is the best racket ive ever used, for a good price. Here are the vital stats : MATERIAL Titanium/Graphite FLEX Extra Stiff STRING Multi-Fibre SHAFT Long HEAD Isometric WEIGHT 90 grams The new muscle power (MP) technology is the very latest development in its field, im not quite sure how it all works - so i wont try to explain. But one thing is for sure - it works!. Yonex has 3 rackets in the series MP100(£135), MP77(£72) and MP55(£50). I chose the MP77 because the MP100 has got a reputation of easliy breaking if you clash with your partner, and at £135 not may ... more

Advantages Advantages enjoyable at all levels, cheap to get in to

Disadvantages Disadvantages gets expensive, need to be in good shape to play at a high level

Badminton is a great sport for all ages and abilities. Courts are widely available at most sports centres and are relatively inexpensive. Badminton gives a good level of exercise in a fairly short period of time and is a very enjoyable sport to play. Equipment for badminton is easy to buy or can be rented from most sports centres. Shuttlecocks (sometimes referred to as the "birdy") are cheap to purchase and last beginners a long time. Rackets can also be bought for low prices However, at the higher levels of the game, rackets become much more expensive and shuttles last much shorter periods of ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages there is none

Well that my opinion, but ill tell you a bit more so you can decide for your self! If you like tennis you might not like badminton (tip!)(Don’t play badminton and then play tennis it like eating crisp and chocolate at the same time) Badminton was created when a bright spark but some chicken feathers and put stuck them in a cork (Now called a shuttlecock) And hit it with a tennis racket but don’t try that now because a tennis racket is way to heavy to hit a shuttlecock. Compared to a tennis racket a badminton racket is very, very light you might think that tennis and badminton are a like but ... more

Advantages Advantages rewarding, fun, challenging, great exercise

Disadvantages Disadvantages None really- perhaps access to facilities?

I have played badminton for almost 15 years and consider it to be the most rewarding sport which can be accessed by almost anybody. Unlike tennis, football, or rugby, for example, badminton is very easy to pick up - at the beginner level, everything happens slowly! Very rewarding! That said, like other sports, to get to a good standard can be very challenging and requires dedication. Surprisingly, i know many people who have achieved an exceptionally high standard within only a few months of practice- right up to National level with the proper coaching. Badminton is a relatively cheap sport ... more
