Advantages: Suspense, romance, gripping horror. Disadvantages: none in my mind.
Reviewer's Foreword

There is nothing quite as good as a decent, old-fashioned horror story to those that like me enjoy this genre. So before you think 'Oh no, not another Stephen King book review' allow me a chance to say why this is one of his better novels. I don't think there is any need to go into the author's background except to say that there is a class distinction in America much ... ...the Americans call it either "White trash" or "trailer trash". Before I get some remarks about "racialism" I'm simply trying to point out that these euphemism's are still in existence today as the times when Stephen King was a young lad. "White Trash" were one step up from coloured people, "trailer trash" applied to those who could not afford a proper house. Stephen King's family were the former type that is why you will find such expressions in ...

Advantages: Wonderfully intricate plot, superb writing Disadvantages: Some might find it confusing
...all characters are just another bag of bones. I suppose he's right. I suppose at some point you've got to decide to leave those bones to rest and enjoy real life for a while. And as sorry as I am that this novel doesn't make promises for new novels that are just as good, I suppose King's right to retire on a high. ...

Advantages: Atmospheric and touching Disadvantages: A little slow but for a ghost story that's okay.
I seem to have been reading this novel for a long time, in all probability it has probably only taken me just over a week, a very busy week I might add. But to be honest I feel like me and this book have been intertwined a lot longer.
King, here, appears to be writing a traditional ghost story, there are screams in the night, the main character hears the mysterious sound of a child crying upon entering his property, there are periods of coldness ... ...by. Which would all point to a traditional ghost story, but with King there is usually more to it than that.
I'll give you a brief outline of the plot, but I'll not go into too much detail here as I don't want to spoil the read for those of you who decide that this sounds like your sort of thing.
Michael Noonan, a moderately-known writer is a widow. His wife dies, not in mysterious circumstances, but certainly with certain secrets in her possession. ...

Advantages: Good character portrayal Disadvantages: none so far
...goes something like this:-
Bag of bones is set around an author called Mike Noonan who's wife dies suddenly one day, whilst out buying a pregnancy testing kit (he didn't know she was pregnant). Mike then finds that he gets writers block and cannot face ever writing again. After a couple of years since his wife's death he goes to their summer retreat at 'Sara Laughs' where he meets a woman called Mattie and her young daughter Kyra. Shortly afterwards ... ...you want to find out what happens in the rest of the story, then you will have to go out any buy the book. 'Bag of bones' retails at around £6.99, which you will find is the average sort of price for Stephen King books. However, depending on where you buy the book from you may get it on a special offer as W H Smiths at present are doing an offer of any 2 paperback books for £10 (which I myself took up the offer today) and went and bought the complete ...

Advantages: An Amazing story Line where I could not put down in parts Disadvantages: Some parts were harder to read
I have to say first off that this book is not one of his best books, but also not one of his worst. I have to say I did read this book in about 2 days as there were some bits where I just could not put it down. The book by no means is short it is 660 pages long and most of them are of pure entertainment. The story is about a writer called Mike Noonan, in the story his wife sudden dies while running to help someone in a car crash. If this is not bad ... ...after trying for years of having a baby. Mike then starts to suffer from desperate writer's block and is drawn through many a hellish year until he decides to pack up and move to his summer home, Sara Laughs, which is situated in the beautiful state of Maine along the lake. The irony of this is, that this beautiful lakes side home has been haunting him in his dreams for months before he decided to move there. However, when Mike does make it back ...

Advantages: rapturous Disadvantages: I cannot find any
“Bag of Bones” by Stephen King is, not one of his latest ones, but, in my opinion, one of his best works. The title itself may have loads of meaning, maybe you’ll find the most appropriate and suitable one for you after reading it.
Mike Noonan was a proud and satisfied man, happy for having achieved his goal, a best-sellers’ play writer, until the premature and sudden death of his young beloved wife, Johanna, soon afterwards she had found out to ... ...depression and gives up writing as all his inspirations seem to have forsaken him. He’s soon persuaded by “something” mysterious and unexplainable to move to the little house in the Maine in which they once used to spend their holidays. Unfortunately, the small village is now negatively influenced by the mischief of an old millionaire man who bothers the lives of his daughter- in- low and the 2-year-old niece, Kyra, with whom Mike soon happens to ...

Advantages: Really excellent story to be enjoyed on many levels Disadvantages: Is the profanity really necessary? It didn't used to be.
Another very good yarn from SK. He writes so many that you come to expect a certain standard, which a few I've read more recently haven't come up to.
This had me totally absorbed, but not from the beginning. The first few chapters were very slow and I was initially put off that yet another SK main character was a writer (Misery, Desperation). It was only when the plot progressed that I couldn't put the book down. We follow the life of Mike Noonan ... ...to disturb and haunt him. He's drawn back to their old summer retreat, Sara Laughs, where the events unfold and the opening chapters at last make some sense.
It's a fabulous tale where the past merges with the present and the obligatory battle between good and evil, right and wrong, ensues. Mike has to face up to the death of his wife, his feelings for a new found love and the many ghosts that haunt him. To make it all so much harder an old tyranical ...

Advantages: Chilling, gripping story Disadvantages: Not long enough!! :o)
I bought this book because I am a BIG fan of Stephen King and have been for quite a few years (ever since I read 'It' at high school!). Before it came out, I could barely hold my excitement, and nerves in case it didn't live up to SK's usual standard. However, I found it to be wonderful! From reading the summary at the back of the book you would be forgiven if it sounds like a love story, I did. But this is a love story with a difference.... The ... ...death of his wife. Throw in a few malicious ghosts, and you get a creepy, unputdownable story!! It is an absolute bone-chiller, that disturbed me... and it takes a lot to disturb a dedicated SK fan!! When I finished the book, I was still haunted by the characters and teir story and just wanted MORE! A brilliant book for any horror fan, and in particular, a SK fan who hasn't yet read this! ...

Advantages: Good storyline, and developement of characters Disadvantages: Why does sex have to come into everything?
I bought this one because it was on offer in Morrisons where you bought this for £4.99 and got The Shining for £1.99 or somethign liek that I can't entirely remember. As one of the first King novels I had read it took a while for me to get into it, but once I had I could not put it down.
The story starts just after the character's (Mike Noonan a writer) wife dies of a brain hemorrhage while running across a parking lot one hot day. After this he ... ...of it he goes out to their second home in maine called Sara laughs (odd name for a house but there you go). While there he soon finds out that there may have been something more sinister behind his wife's death and the death of the unborn child she was carrying. And he helps out a young woman by the name of Mattie Devore in the custody battle over her daughter Kyra, when her multimilliondollar granddaddy wants to take her away. ...

Advantages: Great story Disadvantages: A little sad towards the end
I read this book earlier this year, and it has inspired to me go out and buy more Stephen King. The story is a little slow to begin with, but I think that this helps to build up the main character and his state following the death of his wife. He has nightmares about his summer home Sara Laughs, where he is eventually drawn to. He gets caught up in a custody case that nearly gets him killed, and stumbles upon something much more sinister in the past ...

This is one of those 'Good versus Evil in a small town' stories that King is just untouchable at telling. Widowed Mike Noonan returns to their country home, only to find the whole town in thrall to super-rich tyrant Max Devore. Mike gets caught up on the wrong side of Devore's battle for custody of his grandchild and, in true King style, it all goes haywire from there. A truly gripping, non-stop tale, as confidently written as anything King has ever ...

Advantages: It's Stephen King....c'moooonnnn!!! Disadvantages: Hardback edition hurt my wrist as I couldn't put it down
Stephen King has taken a turn from his usual style of schlock horror in this accomplished and critically acclaimed piece. "Bag Of Bones" tells the story of a writer who suffers from writers' block following the death of his wife. Nightmares begin of their summer home and he feels drawn to the cabin. On his return, a friendship begins between Mike and a young widow and her child. Thus the stage is set. "Bag of Bones" is hauntingly romantic (yep honestly ...

...think up such stories.
Bag of Bones is about a writer called Michael Noonan. Michael has a wife called Johanna.
Johanna goes to the local store and on her way out there is an accident. Although Johanna isn't directly involved in the accident after running to help others she collapses and dies. Michael later finds out that after several years of trying for a baby that Johanna was pregnant.
Michael relises that since Johanna's death that he has ... ...managed to write a book. Luckily he had a few hidden away in a safety deposit box. He used them to try and hide the fact of his writers block to his editor and while the books last he gets away with things.
He then decides after a 6 week vacation to Key Largo to move to his second home 'Sara Laughs' where he was always able to write. On his first evening there he starts hearing strange noises like a child crying.
He travels to a local cafe and ...
