I can truthfully say that this is one of the best books I have ever read, not just sports book. In the book Burns deals with the club that is FC Barcelona. That's right- he dowsn't deal witht eh team that is BArcelona but the club.
THe book is a captivating history of the club on and off the field from the formation of the institution. Burns, being Spanish is able to get to the heart of the issue unlike a foreign author.
He talks of the performances ... ...situation, detailing the involvement in the Civil war and the hardship that the team suffered under Franco.
When you are reading the books the words leap off the page at you and I finished the whole things in two days it was that good. As the ads always say- if you are going to read one sports book this year- let it be this one ...
