Advantages: This is a book lovers dream. Disadvantages: Alnwick is a little out of the way for most readers.
...best kept secrets is Alnwick's Barter Books. This huge collection of over 350,000 books in all shapes and sizes composes one of the largest second hand collections in Europe and it is certainly worth a visit.

Advantages: So many books Disadvantages: Never enough time
...hand bookshop, operating on a barter system. Hence the name... Barter Books. This shop is still alive and thriving, and one of the largest second hand bookshops in Britain.
The layout of the station is still visible in the shop. Where the platforms were forms the main room, containing over 30 book shelves, as well as cases and cabinets around the edge for old and rare books. This is no longer open to the outside, and an end wall has been built ...
