...on their way to a beanie addict.
I'm not sure exactly when beanie babies appeared, I think it was in the nineties. There are many types available now including beanie bears, beanie animals, beanie buddies and beanie kids.
The beanie bears and animals are small and come in all sorts of forms from spiders to fish to monkeys. Beanie buddies are larger versions of the beanie babies/animals, sort of like big brothers. Beanie kids are exactly that, bean ... ...to the thousands. It all depends on how serious a collector you are and how addicted you become. I have just purchased 'unity' for £15.00 which a few weeks ago I would never have done but they are just so addictive.
The only negative with these is that there are so many fakes available that unless you know what you are looking for it is very easy to be duped into spending out on what you believe to be a genuine ty product. I have seen a few fakes ...

...acquire a collection of Ty Beanie Babies--or Ty creatures of any sort. At least, I wouldn't have done so if left to my own devices.
Mind you, I've been known to buy the occasional Beanie for one or another child in our lives. Ty toys are cute and cuddly, good companions for little ones. I've always liked the Ty variety of offerings, one that allowed me to match up Ty creatures with each child's likes and dislikes. Still, I went for years without ... ...to the latest news from Beanie Land. I was asked from time to time to look for this or that Beanie. My sister and her family attended Ty conventions where vendors and collectors bought, sold, and traded Beanies on a massive scale. As a result of these ...

...beanies, I collect the TY beanie baby bears, and if you have ever seen them for sale in the shops, you will know what I mean when I say "Ridiculous prices". The older tush tags were just plain with the bears name on it, the more recent ones have holograms on them to reduce the number of counterfeits that are currently flooding the market. The latest hologram is heat sensitive.

I love Ty Beanies. They are small cuddly toys, filled with beans and come in a variety of different shapes. Each one, apart from a few, has a date of birth and a short poem in its hang tag, or swing tag, they also all have a name.
They were first made as toys, but have now become collectable thanks to Mr Ty Warners’ idea to make each “model” for only a set length of time and then “retire” them and bring out some more.

The beanies come in a variety of animals, the most well known being the bears, but also birds, cats, dogs, wild animals, fish, and farm animals.
My newest beanies are “Mrs.” The Bride Bear, “Mr.” The Groom Bear, “Dizzy” the Dalmatian, “Midnight” the Black Panther and “Frills” ...

...some research about these Ty Beanie Babies on the internet and discovered a bear named 'Peace.' I was HOOKED. In addition to the ones I have on display, I now have several rubbermaid plastic storage boxes filled with these cute little critters. ...for your child's college education, Beanie Babies are not for you.
If you want a collectible that appeals to the kid in you, that are cute, cuddly, relatively inexpensive, and getting easier to find and more affordable, then welcome to Beanie Babies collecting. Where can I start? TY beanie babies are just so cute!! You can choose from a wide variety of animals and colours. There are cats, dogs, rabbits, fish and even ghosts and Christmas characters!! At markets, they can be much cheaper, but beware of the fake ones!!! You have to be very careful, as some people make fake ones then sell them. You will find that the tags are slightly different, so you may like to research this before purchasing. I haven't come across any forgeries ...

Advantages: Great toys, Large range of designs/animals Disadvantages: Not worth a great deal,
I used to collect beanie babies and have well over 200 sitting in boxes in various rooms. I stopped collecting them about 5 years ago, I just lost interest and I had no-where to store them. I used to spend ages, making lists of beanies I wanted and I had so many favourite's. I even hunted high and low for a beanie that was born on my birthday, (I did find one eventually!).

Advantages: Cute - lots to collect Disadvantages: Where do I start?
Beanie Babies are those cute little soft toys that have beans in their feet, hands and bums. You've probably seen the ones with a red and white TY logo in most shops - there are hundreds of different ones - and they retail at around £5.

It starts right at the top. Only authorised retailers may stock Beanie Babies. They are not able to specifically order what they want - they will receive what they're given and be grateful. Needless to say, this creates ...
