Advantages: Appealing subject, lovely illustrations, a robust book Disadvantages: You will tire of it before they do!!!!
...certainly fits the bill.
Bear on A Bike by Stella Blackstone is one of our children's favourite books.
It is a Barefoot Board Book and is beautifully illustrated by Debbie Harter.
It charts the adventures of a small boy, his dog and a bear as they travel using different modes of transport to various exotic locations.
It uses simple, rhyming language with repetitive lines which encourage children to join in with the story:-
"Bear on a bike (raft/boat/carriage ... ...bear?
Please wait for me!"
After visiting various different places, the book concludes with "Goodbye and goodnight!" - the perfect sentiment for last thing at night.
The illustrations are bright and colourful with lots of opportunities for discussion with your children. My girls particularly like the funnel on the train that resembles a pint of Guinness, ("Daddy's juice!!" they exclaim!!) and the beach scene. There are plenty of objects to count ...
