Advantages Advantages Easy to set-up and use to gain access to the Skype network

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cant connect to most wireless networks. Echo..

This review is for the Belkin Wireless Skype Handset and not of the Skype system as such but a brief overview is required. In 2003 Skype (rymes with "type") released an idea that allowed a user to make calls from one computer to the another using an already established network - the Internet. This allowed you to call your cousin in Australia "free of charge" - your obviously still paying for your Internet connection but if you already had this in place it was adding real value to your payments. At this time you generally had a microphone and headphone attached to your PC which if you where ... more

Advantages Advantages Good call quality, easy to set-up

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No charging base

The only downside of Skype is being tied to a computer. You need to have your Skype application running and logged in... that is until now! Over the past few months Skype handsets have been appearing. No, I don't mean the wired handsets that cost around £15, this new breed use Wi-Fi to connect to your wireless router and then to the outside world. Sorry for the long introduction, back to the Belkin Wi-Fi phone. In the box you get a USB cable (for charging from a computer), a mains powered charger, a manual on CD-Rom, a Quick Start Guide and the handset itself. The handset looks very smooth ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use, functional and portable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No text messaging function and no charging cradle.

Have you noticed recently how everything, and everyone seems to be going wireless? Wi-Fi becoming available for just about any comprehensible purpose (gaming, file-sharing, business and home)? Even those irritatingly flashing gambling machines, that seem to be to cemented to a wall in the centre of every pub or bar that you visit, have now got built in Wi-Fi ! No, Really! And now there is talk of several county councils doleing out money to pay for access points in town centres ofr public use. The world seems to go crazy when a relatively new technology is introduced and becomes more cost ... more

1 Star Quick review of Belkin F1PP000GN Skype WIFI Phone by Burnsey123 23/09/2008
I have had this phone for over a year now and would not recommend it to anyone. Reception and clarity of speech is very poor and always has been - horendous crackling, echoing and delayed speech. It is unreliable as it needs charging every other day even when it has not been used. It has always been like this. If you are looking for value for money search for another product. I have not used it outside of the house but can't imagine it would work too far away from the router with all the problems I have with it in ... more

This is a great invention by Belkins and Skype all you need is a Skype account and a WIFI internet connection nearby and you can make free calls to any Skype user anywhere in the world all you need is a WIFI internet connection. Advantages Advantages Portable wireless VOIP only needing a wireless network

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery life could be better, logon more reliable

This phone has been one of the most useful bits of Tech that I have bought in the last few years. I have been travelling more than I would like, but with this device I have been able to keep in touch with family and friends, without the need to buy expensive international phone cards... Most people in Europe have a wireless broadband router or similar, which makes it possible to use this phone without having to infringe on one's host in the use of the home computer. A security key and you're away. Easy to use, battery life OK, and the signal quality usually good. My only gripe is that the ... more
