    Advantages Advantages A quick meal

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Garlic breath

I’m a good girl really. I cook properly for our household, and by cook properly, I mean proper nutritious food from scratch. However, there are times when it’s nice to just eat a bit of junk, and times when I am sick to death of being in the kitchen, so I always have a variety of quick and easy meals in the freezer. In my quest to find something different and quick to prepare, I have recently discovered Bernard Matthews Mini Kievs. We are all quite partial to chicken kievs in our house and have often sampled the plump normal sized portions, from a variety of manufacturers. However, last month ... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty, quick and easy

Disadvantages Disadvantages You'll smell of garlic and might burn your mouth

These little bundles of joy take me way back to my childhood. Which was approximately last week. I grew up with these balls of garlic-y love on my plate and I still love them to this day! So mum and dad couldn't be bothered cooking occasionally, but the day after they always fed us up again with these! They are essentially hollowed balls of chopped turkey, coated in breadcrumbs and filled with "cheese and herb" sauce. I say "cheese and herb" because that's what its called, though to my unrefined pallet, its garlic sauce. You get around 15 in a packet for between £1- £2 and I generally shovel ... more

Advantages Advantages taste nice, good price

Disadvantages Disadvantages sauce leaks when cooking

On my trip to the supermarket this week, I had more time than usual to just walk around the aisles looking at what was on offer and trying to get different things. Most weeks I usually stick to similar lines of buying the essentials and just some meat and so on because at university I don't have a freezer which makes life really awkward. Being home I do have a freezer so it means I can buy a lot of things and so this week I headed to the freezer section to see what there was that I could buy for the week that should last for a few meals or things that I just generally enjoy to eat but don't ... more

Advantages Advantages A quick meal to cook

Disadvantages Disadvantages Filling can be hot

Well these are one of my husband's favourites he would eat them every night if I let him, myself its something I can eat when I take the notion. What am I talking about, well its Bernard Mathews Mini Kievs. They come in a green bag baring the Bernard Matthews logo and have approximately 20 mini kieves inside. The packet shows you a picture of the cooked product split open to reveal the filling of garlic and herb sauce. The reverse has the usual information, with warnings for us to be alert to the fact that there may be bones present although every care has been taken to remove them, to be ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick and easy to cook

Disadvantages Disadvantages You will smell of garlic.

Bernard Matthews Mini Kievs are always a favourite in our house, quick and easy to cook, goes with almost anything and my girls love them. ~A Bit of History~ Bernard Matthews has been round since the 1950’s and started with one man just producing turkey eggs, to date they now farm 8 million turkeys every year just in the UK. There first advert was shown on T.V in 1980 and in 1988 Mini Kievs where first introduced to the UK ~What are they~ The are small round balls made out of chopped 100% turkey breast, covered in bread crumbs with a creamy cheese and herb sauce in the centre so when you cut ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lovely...

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ..sometimes they split...

You'll find these in the freezer cabinet, in a little green bag!! I bought mine in Waitrose for 1.99. (Same price in Sainsburys) The bag contains 340g of mini kiev's, which on average contains 15!! (Personally I would like them to come in larger bags!) The bag is a dark green with a red 'Bernard Matthews' scroll across the top, with the statley home logo under it. Then under that is 'Mini Kievs' in green and white. With 'Prepared from selected turkey breast with a delicous cheese and herb sauce, covered in a crispy crumb' in smaller green lettering. With a red, elongated arrow saying 'CHEESE & ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quick and Tasty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not good for the waistline

Firstly shop around you can get a bag of 20 for the price of 15 which floats between 1.79 and 1.99. 20 golf ball shaped Kievs filled with a herb sauce. YUMMY They are probably best shallow fried just rolling them about every minute or so until they are a nice dark brown and crispy on the outside. While they are cooking spread yourself some nice crusty bread and butter. Don't worry about the calories hell your going overboard anyway. Serve about five to six per serving for a really tasty dish. Use the crusty bread to mop up the lovely creamy filling. I think they'd also be delicious with a pork ... more

Advantages Advantages Taste, Convenience... did I mention taste?

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't eat them every night

My mother used to feed me these as a child and I'm glad she did... that alone made her one of the best parents possible :-) We have these on a regular basis. They are great finger food when you don't want to eat at the table. Have them with some southern fried chicken dippers, some alphabites and some onion rings. Bite into the kievs and then dip whatever else you're eating into that lovely sauce. Speaking of the sauce, it is the most lovely sauce I have ever tasted... a lovely cheesy garlic sauce... fair enough, sometimes it explodes all over the tray while you're cooking them but I don't see ... more

Advantages Advantages Good consistency of Chicken. The breadcrumb is simply divine.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heard bad things about people playing baseball with live turkeys

Me and my life partner ( the lovely Miss Margot Frampton!) were curious as to if anyone had any advice on how to contain the creamy goo within mini and indeed, normal kievs. There has been many an occaision, my friends nephews 31st for example, where Miss Frampton and myself had popped some kievs in the oven only to find its rich gooeyness has leaked all over the baking tray. Margot always gets me to lick the tray (whilst its hotter than the sun) . I have also noticed some heavy bruising on Margots' knee which leads me to beleive she has been secretly hiding mini kievs in her pantry. This is ... more
