...Doom Meets Myst == Bioshock is, put simply enough, a quite wonderful game - and I'm not a fan of first-person shooters. That would make a slightly over-concise review, though. Looking and feeling like the bastard child of Doom and Myst, it's engrossing and exhilarating in equal measures, and its appeal lies somewhere in the product of its relentless action, cinematic plotting and eerily evocative sounds and visuals. Set in a 1960 that mercifully ...
...== Genetically-Modified Marvels == Bioshock throws you into a world of absorbing, intricate plotting - and what's more, reflects this depth and quality of storytelling in the gameplay. Rapture is a world riven by genetic warfare - the currency of the city, as much as dollars, is ADAM; stem cells harvested from deep-water sea slugs by Ryan's brilliant scientists. With the ability to not only regenerate damaged tissue but also to alter the human genome ...

Bioshock certainly shocked me!

Advantages: Outstanding in every way. Unique atomosphere
Disadvantages: Scary stuff at times

Bioshock is the critically acclaimed game from 2K Boston/2K Australia and was released on the Xbox 360 and Pc in August 2007. The developers describe Bioshock as 'the genetically modified first person shooter' and is the spiritual successor to System Shock. Bioshock is a first person shooter but also has elements of a RPG in the fact that you can gain abilities called Plasmids which alter what special powers you can use ranging from Electric Shock ...
...I would not recommend it to people with a nervous disposition. Bioshock has set new water marks with what can be achieved on a games console. I would not call this just another game, it is a work of art that has to be played to be believed. ...

The Freedom of Thought (At Last)

Advantages: Beautiful environments - Rich gaming experience - Wonderful plot
Disadvantages: Casts practically every other game in the genre in a bad light

...to get it right because Bioshock is a game which, nowadays at least, only comes around every so often. In my previous drafts I got some considerable distance down the page describing in great detail the underwater city of Rapture. I wanted to put you as the reader right into its crumbling art-deco environments, describe every ambient sound, convey how beautifully the Atlantic above seeps in from every fault in its failing architecture. I also wanted ...
...out, you'll have to play Bioshock to truly understand. So I'll try and get to the point… Created at the culmination of the second world war, Rapture was intended as a haven for the greatest minds in industry, science and art. This submerged metropolis was a world where neither the ruling elite nor religious morality could stifle their progress - and where the simple minds of the masses could not cloud their thinking or unfairly benefit from their ...

I Chose.... RAPTURE!

Advantages: great story and unique elements to first person shooter
Disadvantages: a bit short in all and occasionally buggy

...are several mechanical elements to bioshock and the game is rather inovitive in the way to hack something isnt just as simple as pression a button and waiting, a mini game opens up and you are set the task of connecting pipes from one spot to another, much like a few flash made internet games. This is good and an original way to look at this, but at times can become incredibly annoying, especially if like myself, you are very bad at it. STORY The ...

It leads to an under sea city known as Rapture. This city was built by the freedom obsessed Andrew Ryan. He created Rapture as a way to get away from the rest of civilisation, and truely be free. along with various scientists he developed Adam (the stuff ...

Would you kindly play BioShock?

Advantages: Intriguing story, impeccably told
Disadvantages: Hardly Challenging

Despite its lack of commercial success, the team behind "System Shock 2" ventured yet another attempt to add personality to First Person Shooters. The result is "BioShock" and it interestingly manages to simultaneously be both innovative and widely appealing. Besides allowing you to shoot fireballs and hack flying death-bots, "Bioshock"'s greatest draw is the game subtly played inside the player's mind. ***The Story*** In response to World World ...
...an underwater city designed to be an utopia. Unhindered by bureaucracy, free of morals, a man was only limited by his dreams. Science flourished, most remarkably genetic engineering, with "plasmids" allowing ordinary men to be extra-ordinary. Super-human agility and empathic links to machinery are just a plasmid away! Power, however, corrupts. Indeed, when your avatar finds an unlikely refuge in Rapture after his plane crashes, the city couldn't ...

Bioshock.

Advantages: Fantastic graphics & sound, great playability, very fun, unique monsters.
Disadvantages: Not much really.

Bioshock is an First Person Shooter game about the underwater city of "Rapture". In this 60's style city all hell has broken loose. A technological advance in Rapture has allowed it's residents to alter their DNA in order to give themselves unique abilities and skills. This, coupled with physique altering surgery, has destroyed the minds of Rapture's residents. On a flight over the Atlantic Ocean Jack (the player controlled character) finds himself ...

Abilities include shooting lighting and fire from your hands, as well as passive abilities such as becoming better at computer hacking and becoming stronger in general. The enemies in the game are also very good, and are some of the coolest looking in any Xbox game. The ...

Disadvantages: Not out yet!

...same weapons etc etc. Bioshock seems to have gone a long way to tackling many of these areas missing from other titles. I will do my best to cover some of these areas for you here. Let us begin with the story line, the header paragraph at the top of this page says most of it, the gaem starts with your character on a smoke filled plane cruising across the ocean, a present from your parents in one hand and a cigarette in the other, (It is set in the ...

...story. The story of Bioshock takes place in 1960, in the fictional underwater world of Rapture, created by Andrew Ryan to allow the worlds greatest minds to act or practice their beliefs, free from morals or judgement. However, the people of rapture discovered an organism called 'Adam', which allowed them to change their genetics, giving them super human abilities. After a while, a civil war began over the shortage of 'Adam', and as the people of ...
...perhaps the only downside to Bioshock is the lack of Multiplayer. I do however believe the single player experience more than make up for this and the developers were right for focusing on creating an incredible single player experience. The learning curve in Bioshock may seem fairly steep to new player's but the game helps you get to grips with the control scheme fairly well and you'll be having fun in no time. I suppose the last thing to say ...

Could have been so much more.

Advantages: Technically amazing
Disadvantages: Just doesn't feel right sometimes.

Technically, Bioshock is a superb game, the graphics are great, the game play is great, the sound is great, least to say, it's a very accomplished game. I know all these things, and I can't escape the feeling that it's an average title. Whenever I play it, I feel like it (as strange as this sounds) has no soul. It's almost like the creators wanted more of a shallow masterpiece, and for me, that's exactly what they have accomplished. On the masterpiece ...
...a group of weapons in Bioshock called plasmids. These are injections that grant powers, like invincibility or increased strength (and some that are a LOT of fun, but I'll keep them secret). To be honest it's a bit like magic, though given through the medium of science-fiction. The realistic weapons in the game are nothing special, you get your revolver, shotgun, machine gun etc. During the course of the game they can be upgraded however to meatier ...

this game is great lots of amazing twists and entertaining enemies. never really gets old and if you read any other reviews on it you can quite clearly see its been one of the best if not the best game publications in history. you play the role of a guy called jo who finds himself involved in a tragic plane crash into open water. by some miraculous conspiracy you find your self swimming to the closest and most prominent structure that is basically ...

Bioshock: On a whole new level

Disadvantages: Can be a little easy at times

...been tracking the release of Bioshock ever since it's first announcement. Published by 2K Games (fomerly Irrational Games), it certainly had history on its side. Bioshock is set in the underwater city of 'Rapture', a utopia for only the best minds of the century. Exclusive to the Xbox 360, you take the character of Jack, and, in the form of a first-person shooter, you battle your way past various enemies who have become 'spliced' through genetic ...
...home to First-Person Shooters (FPS), Bioshock is a game much different to anything seen before, regardless of the numerous titles who claim to be of a similar mould. Obviously, you are given access to a decent size armoury of weapons, with the usual pistol, shotgun, and machine gun all making an appearance, but it is in the other method of combat that this game really shines. As you progress through the game, the character will encounter various ...

A breath of fresh air in a stagnant genre

Advantages: Interesting weapon system, great storyline, voiceacting
Disadvantages: a lot of the weapons and their ammo is useless or with no advantage

...set in predictable story patterns. Bioshock relies heavily on storyline and innovation to grab it's userbase which can be a double edged sword in the fact you either hate it, or love it, with few in between. The first thing that got me was the interest story. The game passes off a few moments where you're walking around scared but the effect never lasts. The horrific abominations of what you could once call people also lose their effect from repetition. ...
...liked and after a while you can read them like a book and fight accordingly. The weapons are somewhat retro with a few interesting twisted ones, but sadly most of them are rather useless. Not in the sense they suck, but in the sense that the different types of ammo you can get for them generally suck. For example, you get a shotgun, the shotgun has normal bullets, explosive round bullets, and electrical bullets. I never ONCE saw a situation where ...

BioShock - Shockingly average.

Advantages: Great Graphics
Disadvantages: Dull

Wow, with such hype from friends I had expected some truly spectacular things from this release. How underwhelming it turned out to be. You start by escaping from a burning plane crash to find some refuge in a mysterious lift/elevator building. The lift takes you down below the surface to an undersea city called Rapture. Things get strange from there. You are befriended by Atlas ,a voice through the radio who will 'guide' you on your quest to escape ...
...several baddies who all appear insane and badly disfigured. Eventually you will learn that they are all victims of a genetic experiment gone wrong. Not to give too much away, you will have to hunt down and find the source of the experiment and defeat he/she/it to regain your freedom. This is where the game fell over for me. It became just a 'quest' with very specific goals and a rigid route to achieving them. Along the way you acquire 'plasmids' ...

Bioshock Game Review

Advantages: Great story. Immersive Gameplay.
Disadvantages: Shallow Character upgrade features.

Bioshock was/is one of my favorite games for Xbox 360 and I'd definitely recommend it, especially now it has dropped in price. This very pretty FPS stands out to me as brilliant as it does exactly what i look for in a game, it tells a story. So many games these days seem obsessed with either some gimmicky feature that they over flog as a selling point or with the 'free play build your own game' sandbox gameplay attitude that they seem to forget that ...
...gameplay to match. Bioshock uses lighting, soundtrack and gameplay to immerse the player in its interesting story which keeps the player hooked and wanting to play on. Many flaws of other FPS games like the inability to use weapons other than those of the current enemy are using are fixed with clever solutions such as the inclusion of currency and vending machines to allow you to pick and choose whichever weapons you favor. Although Bioshock is definitely ...

The Almighty Bioshock!

Advantages: Great graphics, gameplay and storyline.
Disadvantages: Can get hard at some points.

...There are mini-games throughtout Bioshock which act as part of the actual game. These mini-games are such things as hacking robots, turrets and vending machines, these in which will aid you through the game. As you can see above in the pictures, Bioshock is an FPS (First-Person Shooter). In the game you get a range of weapons such as the usual shotgun, pistol, machine gun etc. However at points in the game you are able to customize your weapons ...
...offers just guns... Bioshock is different. Bioshock gives you special powers in which you collect through the game, these are called 'Plasmids'. The powers range from electricity to telekinesis and can be upgraded to allow more fire-power at your fingertips. Now onto the storyline, as said above, you start in a plane which crashes near the underwater city Rapture. Upon entering Rapture you are welcomed by splicers, who try to get through the bathysphere ...
