    A little over a year ago I had no money to spend on gadgets and rather grubby looking carpets. I was feeling very hard done by and wanted to do something about the carpets. Buying new ones was out of the question, but we had had a very wet winter and also shortly before that aquired an extra dog, so where one dog bringing muddy paws inside every time she went round the garden I could cope with two was one too many.     Bissel Carpet cleaner After years of struggling to keep my carpets clean with an unwieldy two piece carpet cleaner I decided it was time for a new one! Imagine if you will my dusky rose pink carpets, only laid 3 years ago, and the incessant tramping of 16 assorted sized paws, 6 regular sized feet plus the visitors we have had over the years, plus the various spills and accidents that occur through everyday life with a 2 year old.     That’s what you could end up with if you invest in one of these and use it on a regular basis. One of the features I liked best about investing in a brand new property was the fact that I could also buy brand new carpets, where man nor beast had ever walked before. Previously when buying my houses, I had had to rely on the quality and choice of the previous owner and a good steam clean courtesy of my dad and the local rental outlet whilst I was at work.     I feel it necessary to begin by saying that I can't be accused of having a past where cleanliness has featured top of my list in life's priorities, however enough was enough!! With a BIG dog, a cat and frequently not enough time to notice their legacy around flat, I would be caught out on occasions with a whiff of 'animal' and a grimy looking floor looking back up at me.     I have an Irish Wolfhound. A big Irish Wolfhound. She is now 11 years old and occasionally has a little accident in the living room. I say little, but it's not really, it's a huge puddle being such a huge dog! Of course I would do my best to clear it all up using kitchen rolls and Dettox etc. but I never felt I was doing all I could to get rid of it.     This carpet cleaner is the last in a very long list of carpet shampooers that I have used, but comes out top every time. I have four kids, each in their own right, messy, accidental spillages are a common occurance in my house. Althought I rate the bissel very highly as a carpet shampooer, it is'nt much use when there has been a slight accident. It is a very bulky machine to get out of the cupboard just to suck up a bit of juice. When it comes to cleaning the carpet thoroughly, say once a month, it absolutley lives up to its name.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Build quality is rubbish - they do not last!

    I have used Bissell carpet cleaners for about 7 years now. With two kids & three dogs, a good carpet cleaner is essential. I'm on my fourth Bissell now - that will tell you about the build quality. I cannot dispute the good job that they do at the start, when they are brand new. I was delighted at first, however, they just do not last. Also, their customer service used to be crap but at least they have improved upon this. My fourth machine is now coming to the end of it's life and I'm considering changing to a Vax, which I've heard are very good. You can get reconditioned machines from Bissell ... more

    I have just purchased the Bissell Powerwash Upright Deepcleaner for £179.95 from Curry's and it's ace!! Is a bazzin' looking device and very simple to use. It has the appearance of a beefed up Vac, all you do is put hot water in one compartment, the cleaning fluid in another, select whether you want heavy duty or whatever. Turn it on, and you are away! You depress a trigger in the handle which sparays the cleaning solution evenly over the carpet, you can then leave this for 10 mins if you wish, depending on the muck!     I am a Registered Child Minder and have lots of people in and out of my house. Although I ask them to take their shoes off the carpet still gets dirty (the previous owners kept their shoes on). I looked around on the internet for the best price and although it says £99 as the best price have a better look and price wise you can do better- I actually got mine for £88 free P+P plus they gave me a couple of bottles of carpet cleaner free.
