Don't be scared, it's only a Blackberry Pearl

Advantages: instant emails, easy to use, slim
Disadvantages: camera, quality of the music played back

...myself more familiar with the Blackberry family. I asked my boss if I would borrow the demo phone The Blackberry Pearl or 8100 for awhile so I could learn and mess around with it to figure out the settings and so on. To be honest, I've never liked Blackberry phones but have I changed my mind? Let's see. First of all, what are Blackberry's? Some people call them mobiles that can send emails, others call them PDAs, other just think they are a fancy ...
...why would some choose a Blackberry when they are so many phones on the market that do emails now and to some point, I agree but most phones have what we call pull email and the Blackberry uses push email. I hear you cry, what is pull and push email? For people that don't know and believe me I didn't until I worked in the mobile industry is that push email lets you know when you have a new email, whereas pull email you have to check yourself to see ...

...have been upgraded to the Blackberry Pearl 8100, quite possibly the smallest yet most functional multimedia device I've laid my hands on to date. Anyone remotely familiar with the RIM Blackberry range will be aware that in addition to bring a mobile phone they have the capability to send and receive email, store addresses and contact numbers, browse the internet, a diary and many other useful little functions that all come in handy when away from ...
...no different from the standard Blackberry range but has some interesting software and hardware additions whilst at the same time being drastically reduced in size. Personally I have never had to pay for my Blackberry, and have struggled to find the actual cost of just buying the handset online, however it is apparent that if you take up a specialist tariff with any of the major networks the handset is provided free of charge to users. So, you have ...

Blackberry Pearl: A Blackberry virgin's views

Advantages: Good Looking, Slim, Simple To Set Up, Single device for all communication!
Disadvantages: Camera not great, Not 3G so relatively slow web browsing

...these devices has soared since Blackberry introduced this model, which is aimed slap bang at people like me: Want the fancy functions of a Blackberry (i.e. sending and receiving emails on the move) without sacrificing the more 'fun' features such as a camera and good looks. There's a lot to cover in terms of the features, so I'll deal with them individually in a moment. Firstly, to explain how I got this mobile - I was due an upgrade through my ...
...big PC/Apple Mac-type divide between Blackberry users and non-Blackberry users, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Long story short, it still cost me (well, my company) £90 as part of the upgrade. I'm sure you will find plenty of operators offering it for free with nre contracts / upgrades. It also cost an extra £11 or so per month, for the data allowance. Not being in the know about these things, this may be a good or bad deal - perhaps ...

Blackberry Pearl 8100 Review - Great Smartphone!

Advantages: Blackberry functionality, great looking, features for both business and consumer use
Disadvantages: Interface is perhaps a little dated

...in 2007, the number of Blackberry users reached 8 million and is continually on the rise. Originally aimed at large corporations with the Blackberry's appealing wireless email services and corporate functionality such as calendar, contacts and tasks synchronisation, Blackberry have now created a device which goes even further and offers a few more consumer friendly features. Aimed at both business users and consumers simultaneously, Blackberry have ...
...The Pearl is the first Blackberry device to feature multimedia features such as a built in camera with a flash, music and video playback features and of course the first thing that makes the Pearl more appealing than other Blackberry devices: a sexy, slim line body. This phone weighs almost nothing - it's certainty the lightest I've ever held, yet one of the most feature-packed. It is a 'candy-bar' shape and feels nice to hold. It's shiny, professional ...

Pearl 8100 - an everything in one device

Advantages: trackball, interface, predictive text, email, style, ease of use, java, all in one device
Disadvantages: not a true WAP device, camera

First the good bits... My first attraction to the Pearl was the style, it looks very nice. Much more stylish than may other phones currently on the market, although thats down to individual taste. I've had the Pearl for about 3 weeks and its definitely the best phone I have ever had just because its put everything I need (phone, PDA and media player) all in one device. I bought a 2GB media card and I now have a phone with 15 albums, 2 films so ...
...with me - no separate media player or PDA. It was a little shaky at first - I was told by my phone company that I could continue to pay my regular monthly amount with this phone and receive emails and surf the WAP internet. Wrong - the Pearl is NOT a true WAP device like other phones. Unless you pay the additional amount for a 'data package' you will not be able to do emails OR WAP. So, if WAP is important to you expect to pay an additional amount ...

Business now means pleasure!

Advantages: Great looking, slim & light, Trackball, Email communication, Quad Band and All-In-One!!
Disadvantages: Slow Web browsing, Camera & headphone jack

I purchased the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100 about two months ago and now feel I know enough about the phone to make a reasonable review on it. When I first purchased the 8100 I was amazed at how light and sleek it actually was, I could put it in my pocket and forget about it because it was just so light compared to other phones I have had! I found it hard to use the QWERTY keyboard that it has, but due to its amazing predictive text (possibly the ...
...for me to adapt to the QWERTY keyboard. And after a few days of using it I was able to write with relative ease, the trackball makes it easy to navigate around the device and is not only practical but good looking! The constant data connection allows you to receive email's on the go 24/7 and makes it easy to communicate with multiple people at any one time, instead of been tied up in long phone calls. I did however find the Web Browsing disappointingly ...

The most practical Blackberry?

Advantages: small, slim and very stylish
Disadvantages: trackball awkward

...if you look on the Blackberry website you can view the full spec. I can now send and receive emails and web browse anywhere, and the 'normal' mobile phone size and shape of the device means it looks like I am just sending a text without drawing attention to myself! Fantastic and discreet. The media player is adequate and can cope with films and MP3s. As with all mobile devices the head phones are of poor quality but these are easily replaced although ...
...memory card is purchased. The disadvantages are: It has a smaller screen that other Blackberries. What else can you expect? If you make a product smaller then it is likely to have a smaller screen. That said - the screen is plenty big enough to send and read emails, as well as web browsing. I use mine for multimap, Ebay, BBC News and many other sites and have no problems what so ever. Although it has a full qwerty keypad there are two letters ...

Blackberry Pearl, mixed opinions

Advantages: Great Signal, Email, Blackberry Messenger, Half-QWERTY, Good Camera.
Disadvantages: Bad Lock Feature, Repeated "sim card error".

The blackberry pearl is a compact smartphone with all the capabilities of it's lager counterparts. The only downside I have experienced is a repeated "sim card error" which apparently cannot be solved, it is rather frustrating and the only "temporary" solution I have found is to turn the phone of and back on again. Other than this one minor issue the phone lives up to it's name. It maintains fantastic signal pretty much anywhere is easy to set up ...

The look and feel of the phone is great, it's small and easily slides into pockets (unlike some other blackberry devices). The phone is robust and to put it bluntly, difficult to break. What a pearler

Advantages: Easy to use, lots of features, very pretty
Disadvantages: Steeper learning curve for owners of previous models

...Anyone who has had previous blackberry models will be used to the track wheel system for navigating around the device. On the 8100 this has been removed and replaced with a 'pearl' roller ball similar to most modern phones. This takes a bit of getting used to but once you have it is extremely easy to use. Secondly while previous blackberry models have had full qwerty keyboards with a single letter per key the 8100 has a cut down keyboard with two ...
...difficult to come to terms with however the predictive text feature on this device is the best I have ever used. It gets it right 99% of the time. The third negative is that the first device I had died within a few seconds of being plugged in. It produced a solid white screen and stayed that way. It seems that this is a firmware bug as the internet turns up more than a few stories from other owners that this has happened to. However the device was ...

Quick review of BlackBerry Pearl 8100

excellent phone i have a hp pda for the past 12 months. The hp and the blackberry do the same apart from the blackberry is a 1/4 of the size the only thing i miss is the touch screen but apert from that it fantastic to have a mobile of this size and with the capacity of a laptop in your pocket. the rollerball is very simple to use and to place the phone on silent is very easy from the front screen. connection to a pc is quick and easy. a video camera would be usefull but as the wish list is very short with this phone i can only recommend you try it if you would like a smartphone. can we soon see a 5mp phone lets hope then i can carry just a phone. ...

Smart

Advantages: looks,practical,smart.
Disadvantages: camera, difficult to get your head around when you first get it.

In my opinion the blackberry pearl 8100 is a very smart and cool phone. From its scroll wheel to its keyboard text pad. This is a very good phone and does everything you want it to do, from internet to email and from games to voice dialing. This phone does take a lot of getting used to but when you do get used to it, it is an amazing phone. It is perfect for buisiness. You can upload you power point presentations and your word documents to you computer ...
...appealing to the eye. Everyone who has saw my phone has complimented on its looks. The only let down with this phone is the camera. It has a 2 mega mixel which isnt bad, but it does take a long time for the camera to load. Also it takes a long time for your pictures and videos to load. But i would definitely reccomend this phone to anyone who is interested. ...

Advantages: Slim, lightweight design, large screen
Disadvantages: Short battery life and fiddly keys

...you have ever had a Blackberry 8700, and has a stylish slim design. It took me a while to get used to the keyboard layout (despite being a qwertty keyboard the layout is not what one usually expects on a mobile). The screen is bigger than I expected and is crystal clear. The track ball is quite annoying at first, and took me some time to get used to. The only saving grace is the standby feature (activated by holding the mute key on the top of the phone) which essentially turns the ...

My favorite berry

Advantages: Qwerty keypad, compact, email, long battery, fast
Disadvantages: keys are too small, can be hard to use, and scratches easily.

...I was offered a free Blackberry Pearl. I thought it was an attractive phone and agreed. I really like the qwerty keypad that it has. This makes texting and browsing the web a lot easier. The scroll is also very easy to use. It's a fast and easy way to get to things. The size was another benefit. It's pretty small and slim. It fits in my pockets and in my purse. I don't like phones that are too bulky. This phone takes great quality pictures. The camera ...

It's a really fun game, but it can become addictive. The battery life is very good. The sound is great and so far, I have no dropped calls. Despite all of these good features, there are some drawbacks. First, it's hard to check your voicemaile. Two, due to it's compact size, you might accidently ...

this is a one of a kind smart phone

Advantages: It has everything you could need on this phone to get you through any day it has a quad band reciever and you can be reached anywhere even in the channel tunne l(ive tried and it works)
Disadvantages: they put so much on to this phone the only thing they forgot was the video camera

it look great it is actually thiner than the motorola razor and is whey lighter as well. you see that little ball in the middle oof the phone it works the same as on a computer mouse and is a lot easier to use than those arrow keys and this is the only phone in the world with one on it. the keyboard is amazing, because there are only 2 letters a button it is alot easier to use the internet, text message and email and has the same qwerty key board ...
...a lot less like some thing huge and ugly its icons and applications are really easiy to use and has so mony ringtones and customizable options to make this phone really personal. when my friends saw me with this phone they though that is amazing and when ever im using it in town people always look at my phone as well.it has a very good camera altough it is only 1.3 mp it slil can give great pics and also comes with a flash.i would recomend this phone ...

Blackberry Pearl

Advantages: Screen clarity, MP3 Player, Wireless Synch, Solid and Strong
Disadvantages: Keyboard too small

I replaced my old "large" Blackberry with the peal a few months ago. I'm a total Blackberry convert and cannot imagine using any other type of device. If you're a serious busines user and email is important to you, you should have one. I also invested in a hosted exchange mailbox and my Pearl synchronises wirelessly in real time with my inbox, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks from Microsoft Outlook on my PC. It's totally seamless in it's operation, ...
...The Pearl for the additional features. The MP3 player is superb and a match for my IPOD in every respect, in fact the sound quaility may be a little better. The camera is really very good quality, and I can use it to take photos for my work as an estate agent when I forget the "real" camera. I love the new high definition screen and the way it adjusts for ambient light, and the new track ball system for getting around the menus is totally intuitive. ...
