CONTACTABLE 24/7...............GREAT!!!

Advantages: Plenty of features, sending and receive e-mails, SMS, address book, calendar, web browsing.....
Disadvantages: QWERTY keyboard keys are tiny and it looks a bit naff, poor range of ring tones.......

...I was presented with the RIM Blackberry 7230 Enterprise device to double up as both a mobile phone, PDA and wireless e-mail device to enable me to communicate with Assembly Members during Committee Meetings, check my e-mails while out of the office and ensure that I kept any appointments in my diary and I'm happy to say I was and still am impressed with my new piece of kit. The Blackberry is a handheld portable unit weighing in at 136g and it fits ...
...in length, 7.5cm in width and being rather slender at only 2cm in depth. Black is the standard colour of the Blackberry but it is possible to purchase models in different colours. The screen itself is quite small and sits above QWERTY keyboard as shown in the picture above. Various screen options are available, the older versions being black and white however the newer version includes the high-resolution 240 X 160 colour display with backlight that ...

Might as well face it - I'm addicted to you

Advantages: convenient and constant access to email, filing system
Disadvantages: internet access and speed, keyboard

When I was first informed by my boss that I would be getting a Blackberry on loan from work, I was actually very unhappy about it. The last thing I wanted was a PDA, a device that would be attached to me, go everywhere I went and make me feel like I was permanently at work. The first weekend that I had the PDA, I was stressed out. Did I need to check this device every second to make sure I did not miss an important email that would tell me to come ...
...and ignore it until Monday morning? ***What is a Blackberry?*** A Blackberry is one type of PDA in a range of different devices on the market that provides consumers wireless access to work, friends and family. It is essentially a mobile office - allowing you to access email (including attachments), telephone and the internet while you are on the move and away from your normal work station. In addition to these normal features, the Blackberry also ...

Fruit for my Labours

Advantages: Fairly easy to use, simple and effective
Disadvantages: Clunky, unattractive

In this day and age of gadgets and supreme technology, I'm surprised that there aren't more effective ways of sending / receiving emails whilst you're on the move. A wireless laptop is all very well and good, but even the lightest models add to your hand luggage and of course they aren't cheap either. If nothing else, a good wireless laptop is a bit of a security risk. The problem doesn't end there either. If you're in a meeting or training session ...
...interrrupted, then a laptop on the desk isn't exactly subtle. I need something as portable as mobile phone that gives me enhanced functionality above text messaging. This is where Blackberry comes in. A Blackberry device is a small, portable unit that operates using GPRS technology to send and receive emails, browse the Internet, maintain a calendar/task list AND act like a mobile phone. Most business people on the move these days seem to have one ...

Comms on the move

Advantages: Push email, pda features
Disadvantages: a little bulky

Issued a blackberry as a replacement for my work mobile phone, and first impressions were that I didn't like it. I think this is just that I saw it as a very bulky mobile phone. Admittedly, this was a very short sighted view of the Blackberry, my opinion has changed now to appreciate how useful it is. The blackberry devices are still one of the few devices which has true push email. That is to say, when an email is received by the server at HQ, ...
...connect or login to the email server to download the email. The same applies to sending emails, you write your email, click send and away it goes. It still surprises people every now and then that I can respond so quickly to an email. There is a QWERTY keyboard for writing messages, and notes, although not large enough to use as a computer keyboard, familiarity with where letters are on the keyboard speed up the process. As a phone, I still have ...

A new era in mobility

Advantages: E-mail & calendar on the go,easy to use
Disadvantages: No bluetooth, no car-kit

This is a review for a Blackberry 7230 on Vodafone for business use. The previous two opinions were about personal use, but Blackberry was designed actually for business use, due to its excellent integration with the corporate mail systems (such as Microsoft Exchange). The Blackberry is in our company for about 4 months now, after 2 months of trial. I was responsible of setting the Blackberry infrastructure on our network. I will start the review ...
...how this can be integrated in a corporate environment and then what is good and what is not so good about it. Blackberry So, what is a Blackberry? Is a device produced by a Canadian firm called research in Motion especially for corporate users. It is sort of an Palm/iPaq combined with a phone with the next features: - Phone, email, SMS, browser and organizer applications in a single wireless handheld - Dimensions are 11.3 x 7.5 x 2.0cm (LxWxD) ...

Email on the move!

Advantages: Small, totally portable, user friendly
Disadvantages: small keys - but this is not a huge prob!

In my last company almost all the senior execs had their own Blackberry ... this was the first I'd seen or heard of it, and I was impressed! When I left corporate-based work to freelance, I dedcided that this was a tool (and toy!) I couldn't live without. Not only because I'm an email junkie ... but because anyone working for themselves has a definite need to stay in touch - with clients, suppliers and potential new business. After further investigation ...
...bother exchange server and POP3 - and can receive and send up to 50m of data per month. The guy in the T-Mobile shop assured me that this would be more than enough for the average user, but even if you go slightly over every now and then, there are no huge penalties. I spent some time using a borrowed handset in store - and decided that I liked the look and feel. It's small and light, with a good sized colour screen. using the qwerty keyboard is ...

Business on the move with Blackberry 7230

Advantages: emails on the move! No time wasting
Disadvantages: older model so slow internet hook up

We bought two 7230s for business use 18 months ago and we have been very impressed with their business capabilities. I used to come home each evening and spend a couple of hours checking my email in boxes ... now I have two extra hours available! I do all my emailing in slow periods at work and elsewhere. Business has picked up becuse we can communicate with customers much faster than previously. I dont use it very much as a telephone due to the ...
...quality etc. The address book is comprehensive and intrgrates well into the email, phone and sms features. Internet acess is available but can be rather slow so tend not to use it except for emergencies. We were stuck in a poor quality hotel in Rome last summer and were able to use the internet facility to sort ourselves out with better accommodation so it was a godsend. I even take it to bed with me - the vibrating facility get me up in the morning! ...

Rim Blackberry 7230 Smartphone

Advantages: Easy to use Qwerty keypad
Disadvantages: Lack of connectivity

The Blackberry 7230 is an easy to use feature packed phone and is ideal for business use. The phone has tri-band network ability and uses both GSM and GPRs meaning you can usually ge a good signal. The phones screen is easy to view and the backlight allow the screen to be viewed easily in low light conditions. The keypad is also easy to use and very eliable, it is hard to press the wrong key even with large fingure. The full Qwerty keypad makes sending ...
