Advantages Advantages Everything is an advantage in the Blu Tack world.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

I've been giving this some thought today (mainly, in honesty, because I've been bored, had far too much sugar and found out that there is a finite number of photocopiers that you can break in one day), and I've come to the (perhaps surprising) conclusion that water is not the stuff of life. It's an arrogant little git, is water. Can water give you a blood transfusion? Does water put a new battery in your watch when it starts going a bit slow? Do you ever get home of an evening to find that water's put the dinner on and had a bit of a tidy round for you? No, it bloody does none of those things ... more

Advantages Advantages Reusable, cheap, packaged in recyclable materials, doesn't leave holes in things.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can leave a slightly greasy mark on the wall when removed.

Blu Tack Bostic Blu Tack (no ‘e’ despite what some people may tell you!), is a fantastic product which has been around since 1971 and was originally coloured blue in case kids mistook it for being a sweetie. Today you can buy it in a variety of different colours, but they all do the same task. How is it packaged? When you buy Blu Tack it comes in a card wallet and the Blu Tack is a sheet that’s laid between two pieces of non-stick paper inside the card packaging. I love that every part of the packaging is recyclable. What is it? Blue Tack is kind of like a reusable putty. In texture it’s ... more

Now we’ve probably all used Blu-Tack at some point in our lives but I’ve recently rediscovered it. I used to use it to stick the posters of my heartthrobs I’d torn out of Smash Hits magazine on my bedroom wall, until my bedroom was newly decorated and I was no longer allowed to stick posters directly onto the walls, but had to pin them onto my pin board instead. I think the first crush I had on a famous person was when I fell head over heels for Paul Rutherford from Frankie Goes To Hollywood. I used to put on my tapes and drool over the posters of him I had Blu-Tacked onto my ... more

Advantages Advantages Clean, cheap, easy to use and above all fun.

Disadvantages Disadvantages you might be seen as boring if you list this as one of your hobbies on your CV

It amazes me that no one has ever written an opinion on the one thing that sticks the world together – Blu-tack. It is a cult product and if you haven’t heard of it, you have really missed out. When I was a youngster, all that time ago, I used it to stick up my Smash Hit posters on my bedroom wall. When I grew up even more I used to ping it at my friends in class and when I was at university I used to model it into little animals when I was in lectures or trying to study in the library. •••So what really is Blu-tack ?••• If I had to describe it ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, works well, lasts ages

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing

Blu Tack is one of those products that nearly every household will have shoved away in a drawer somewhere just for those times when nothing else will work. It certainly isn’t a product that I use all the time or even once a month for that matter. When it comes to revision, I’m one of those people who needs to be surrounded by my notes in order for everything to sink in and I need to be going over things constantly. Linguistics is a pretty massive topic and with so many different word classes to remember in very specific detail, I decided to put up posters of these around my room back in ... more

    Advantages Advantages Sticks well

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not all of it can be reused

I originally started using Blu Tack in my teenage days, it was useful to use to stick up my poster and photo collection when I was trying to cover each and every inch of my bedroom walls. Since having my own house I've found myself using the sticky blue stuff again. Blu Tack comes inside a blue cardboard packet and is stuck inside two sheets of a paper material to keep it free from sticking to the cardboard outer packaging. The Blu Tack takes the shape of a long slab whilst it's in the packaging, it simply works by taking a small piece of Blu Tack from the slab, rolling it into a ball and ... more

Advantages Advantages Re-usable over and over again

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not strong enough to stick everything

Imagine if you can a world without Blu Tack What would stick our posters onto our bedroom walls, or those silly little novelty air fresheners onto the front of the dashboards of our cars….? Oh where would we be indeed What is Blu Tack? Blu Tack is pretty much a household name but just in case there are some of you out there who have not heard of it let me try and explain what it is. Well firstly it is blue in colour and yes you've guessed, it is also tacky, but don't dismiss it there. As far as adhesives go Blu Tack is pretty versatile and the one thing that sets it apart from other adhesives ... more

Advantages Advantages Sticks well, can be reused, low cost

Disadvantages Disadvantages Have to reapply after a while

My daughter bought herself a posters when we went away in the summer of Peppa pig so we needed something to stick it up on the wall with, I expected we would have blu tack in the drawer but no there was none to be found so we picked up a packet of the blue stuff from Tesco for around £1. Blu Tack is created by Bostik and has been around for as long as I can remember, I always remember my Mam using it for putting christmas cards on the walls when I was younger. The blu tack comes in a flat sheet about 1/2 cm thick and it is covered on either side by what feels like greaseproof paper and then ... more

I doubt whether there are many people who have not used blue tack before as it has been around for ages now and you can buy it in most stores but just in case you are someone who has not used it before it is a substance which feels a bit like chewing gum that has been well chewed and you can break bits off of it and use it to stick things to just about anything. Blu-tack is best used for sticking up things (usually paper or card) that are in a temporary spot or may be things that you would keep changing. Things like hanging up Christmas cards at Christmas time is a good use for it. It does not ... more

Advantages Advantages Probably the best thing for attaching photos, paper and posters to walls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can leave marks, doesn't keep stuff up forever

Blu Tack is one of those things that everyone has used at some point in their life. While I haven't used it particularly often recently, I used to have quite a few posters on my walls as a child as so Blu Tack was a constant presence in my room. Along with White Tack, nothing else is used so much to temporarily attached posters and pictures to walls. Blu Tack Using Blu Tack is simple. A pack consists of a long, shallow block of Blu Tack from which you rip off small pieces. You then gently stretch each small piece and warm it slightly with your hands until it becomes flexible and can stretch a ... more
