A bit slow going in the middle

You might have read my opinion on Jemima J by Jane Green, which I wrote in February – well, you probably haven’t, as it only got 12 reads on Ciao (20 on Dooyoo and a crown!). Unfortunately, book reviews get very few reads on opinion sites. Anyway, that was the first Jane Green book I...

“Bookends”

published 05/06/2003

Engaging, well-written, funny at parts, brings up ...

Can drag on at times, some clumsy links

Bookends follows the life of Cath - a hugely disorganised, scatty, well-meaning thirty-something who's entire wardrobe consists of black who has lost all motivation for her job in advertising. She has had bad experiences with men, and as a result has built up a barrier, preferring to seek comfort...

“Kooky love post university!”

published 21/07/2000

Good storyline, and charactors

boring in parts, lacks depth

Following the success of 'Straighttalking', 'Jemima J' and' 'Mr Maybe', Jane Green provides yet another easy to read, kooky novel of late twentysomethings finding love. I didn't enjoy Bookends as much as her previous novels but it's definatly worth reading for the great characterisation and...

“A family of choice”

Good characters, interesting relationships

a little slow in the middle

I am currently re-reading all of my books before clearing them out, and this is the second of my Jane Green books I have re-read. In general, I'm quite a fan of Jane Green, but the last book of hers I read, Straight Talking, was a bit of a disappointment. Luckily, I feel she is back on track with...

“GRAB A BOOK AND A CUPPA”

I bought this after reading another Jane Green book, as I liked her style and now I have read quite a few of her books. After reading the description of this online I thought that this would be a book that I would enjoy and yes it isn't the best book that I have ever read or that, but it is good...

This book truly exceeded my expectations when I read it. I bought it, (at full price, very unusual for me!) because I sw the cover, and as I had just started my holidays, thought that it looked truly like the perfect relaxing read. Another of those girly books that my reviews betray an...

Good

Fabulous Characterisation.

Predictable.

As the title suggests, my thought on picking up this book was pretty much that, but I had been told it was funny and as I had forgotton my book and I was waiting for the train to take me home I figured, Why not? Actually I'm glad I did. The book draws you in and the characters are very likeable...

Great characterisation

Storyline can drag at times

Having run out of things to read, a friend shoved Bookends into my hand and recommended I read it as she though it was an excellent book. I wouldnt go as far as saying this was the best book i have ever read etc, and it probably wouldnt make it into my top ten, however it is still worth a read...

Entertaining, easy to follow

Much of a muchness in contemporary fiction

You will get to see, as I have the time to write my opinions, that I am one hell of a reader. Everything from contemprary to crime & thriller to biographys and self-help style (5 minute manager, Tony Robbins) etc... SO I hope that my opinions will be well-rounded & fair. I grew out of modern...

“Fantastic fiction!”

Depth of plot and character development

None

I had never read any of Jane Green's books previously, and, as I'm 16, I'm just starting to explore different adult authors. I bought this book in the 'holiday reading' section as I was looking for a book to read on the beach. The plot looked interesting and the characters seemed to have depth- I...

“Great holiday read.”

good story & very enjoyable

not deep & meaningful

This is a story about five friends, four of whom met at University. There are best friends, Cath & Si, total opposites but both unlucky in love. Cath runs a café bookshop with another friend, Lucy. Lucy’s married to Josh and they have both the child from hell and the obligatory glamorous au-pair...

This is another one of my favourite Jane green books. This one gets a thumbs up for everything. It is about the lives of 5 friends over the period of a decade or so, one friend is dropped from the group and becomes a television writer then re-enters their lives years later. But is this a good...

Read it too quickly!

I loved this book! It was the first by Jane Green that I had read, and I'll definitely be buying more. It centres around Cath, Si and Josh, who were very close friends from university, along with Portia, but after a devious act by Portia, the others had not seen her for 10 years. Then she comes...
