    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I have used Boots Own brand Avert Cold Sore Cream on many occasions to relieve both the symptoms of cold sores on my lips and relieve the itchiness of cold sores before they appear. This cream is an excellent way of dually preventing & relieving this nasty problem. The tube only contains 2g of cream, but you don't need much to rub onto the affected area. The main active ingredient is Aciclovir 5% w/w. Other ingredients include Poloxamor 407, Cetosearyl, Alcohol, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, White Soft Paraffin & others. To use this cream you must wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying ... more

Advantages Advantages Gets to work fast

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some remdies still sting in an open wound

I remember when very young all sorts of aunts and female friends of my mothers would come along and smother me with wet sloppy kisses usually on or around my mouth. Can’t say that I blame them but it did sort of put a spanner in ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I recently developed a cold sore for the first time in my life. I could neither believe how painful it was nor how unsightly. I did some research on the internet and found that cold sores were due to a virus which is present in most of us, and the symptoms could be brought on by stress, insomnia and other factors. The average lifespan of the sore was nine days. By day five my sore was large, the scab was coming off frequently, it kept bleeding, and as the sore was located right in the corner of my mouth it was difficult to eat. As I have to visit people's homes as part of my job, I felt ... more

Advantages Advantages cheaper, effective, in a much better dispencer

Disadvantages Disadvantages not the brand name

I started suffering from cold sores after a period of being run down. I always thought it was a genetic thing before because I never suffered from them as a child, but I guess that was a stupid thing to think! Anyway, after two cold sores going through their awful stages and ‘disfiguring’ me for 1 and 1/2 weeks each (!) I realised that they weren’t normal spots and decided to do something about it. I tried the stuff that boots recomended (costing a wopping £5 for a small tube, supposedly, as it said on the instructions, to last for one session), which I can’t remember what it was called (sorry ... more
