Advantages Advantages Simple, effective, easy to swallow, inexpensive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not instant, won't work well on serious pain

Background I'm sure most of us keep at least some painkillers in our medical cabinets; sooner or later they're very likely to be needed, and it's a welcome relief (in more ways than one!) to be able to get some from within the house rather than trekking down to the nearest corner shop or chemist. Paracetamol is one of the types that just about everyone will have used at some time or another, and for good reason: it's cheap, it's readily available and if used properly it generally has fewer side-effects than some other drugs. For diabetics like me, who need to be careful about ibuprofen because ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great on headaches

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not brill for me in other areas

I get an awful lot of aches, pains and general headaches. I have a bad back every day and I suffer with M.E which explains all the other issues as well as sore throats and a swollen gland in my neck. Because of this I often pick up paracetamols and the likes to pop in my very large bathroom medicine cabinet. I buy tablets or caplets though the idea with caplets is that although they are usually a tad larger in my experience than tablets they are slightly coated in something which makes them easier to swallow and I combat the larger caplet by having a handy tablet/caplet cutter to chop them up ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice shape and easy to swallow

Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all for me

I always used to take an own brand painkiller, one with the same ingredients as Anadin Extra but since becoming pregnant I have had to resort to just paracetamol if I need a painkiller as I’m not allowed aspirin. I recently popped into my local Boots chemist to collect a prescription and picked up a box of their paracetamol caplets. Since I’ve been pregnant I have found it very difficult to take tablets, I just cant get them down. I decided to try these after my friend told me they are quite small and also a nice oval shape, round tablets are something else I’m struggling with right now. The ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none for me

As most people the last few years money seems to get tighter and tighter and so we have downgraded on just about everything and paracetamol is one of them. I really detest having to take pills so often leave it until the last minute when my head gets too sore to handle and always try and find the smallest pills available to make it easier for me to swallow. That is why I chose the caplet version of these tablets as they are the smallest option. They come in a blue box with all the ingredients and instructions for use on them so it is handy to keep. Inside the box the pills come in 2 foil ... more

    Advantages Advantages Effective, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as cheap as supermarkets stores own

I’ve had a dodgy lump on my jaw line for a couple of months now. I wasn’t experiencing any discomfort for the first few weeks, but just recently it’s been playing up when eating a big meal. Going around town last week, the aching pain turned up out of the blue, I hadn’t eaten something which normally triggers it. I didn’t have any painkillers on me, but I needed some if I was to carry on shopping, so I quickly went into the nearest place to buy some paracetamol which happened to be Boots. Information The dosage is the same for most other paracetamols, for anyone 12 years or over take 1 or 2 ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap but effective

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all

I’m not the biggest sufferer of headaches fortunately but when I do tend to get them it’s normally when I am work under a little stress. I have found over the years that no matter what I take for a headache whether it is the gel capsules which are supposed to be fast acting or just normal capules/tablets which cost about 11p per pack they tend to do the same thing so when I am in need of buying paracetamol I’m more than happy to have the shop’s own brand. A few weeks ago on my lunch break I could feel a headache was going to appear and whilst I was in my local Boots I had a browse at their ... more

4 Stars Boots Paracetamol Caplets Review with images 11/03/2013

Advantages Advantages From a trusted brand, easy to swallow, clear instructions and information.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not worth paying the extra for, though they are still not expensive.

Although I would say Boots isn't the first place that springs to mind when it comes to finding a bargain, their own brand range of medicines is one exception. Boots have a value line which carries the 'Value Health' branding, and the (slightly) more costly Boots branded range which appears to be packaged better and have more of a quality feel to it. don't understand why retailers do this, but a lot of the supermarkets that stock their own branded products do the same thing, with a 'budget' line sitting alongside a more expensive looking own brand product, though they are effectively the same ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not very fast acting with severe pain

When it comes to Paracetamol, I don't see much point in paying over the odds and I am not at all brand loyal. I picked this pack of paracetamol up a couple of weeks ago now while in Boots. At just 45 pence for 16 caplets, this was one of the cheapest options available which is why I bought it! This paracetamol is from Boot's own range of pain relief and the 500mg caplets are able to relieve the symptoms of a range of illnesses including colds and flu. They can also help minimalise aches and pains such as toothache, headaches, nerve pain and rheumatic pains. They are also suitable for period ... more

    Advantages Advantages does numb pain

Disadvantages Disadvantages takes a while to kick in

The other day I was suffering from a really sore back and I needed something to take that would make the pain go away as it was really ruining my day. I always buy my medicine from Boots as I trust them as a pharmacy and feel their products are always successful at helping me with whatever I need. I usually opt for ibuprofen when it comes to getting rid of pain but I asked the pharmacist and she recommended I take these paracetamol which I decided to give a try with as at the worst I’d have to use my ibuprofen as a back up if they did nothing. PACKAGING These paracetamol stand out quite a lot ... more

I remember when I was working as a nursery nurse before I had my son and one of my best friends at work used to swear by buying expensive branded pain killers. Frequently I would tell her that it was the same product inside fancier packaging for the most part and that store branded equivalents were just as good but she would never believe me and stuck to her expensive brands. For me whilst I see that in some products a brand name will equate to better quality when it comes to picking up some paracetamol caplets I will usually just opt for the store brand and my latest purchase was some boots ... more
