Advantages Advantages Distinctive cel-shaded visuals; smooth, satisfying shooting; RPG elements nicely implemented

Disadvantages Disadvantages Large empty expanses; recycled missions; story is a let-down; ultimately repetitive

Imagine a sci-fi first-person shoot ‘em up in the mould of a Fallout 3. Now replace the irradiated slum dwellers with crazed (and more than likely inbred) yokels and the dense, dilapidated U.S. wasteland with a distinctly backwater-flavoured sequence of canyons, salt flats and remote bandit encampments, and you’ll have some clue as to what Borderlands is like. Distinctive and sporting a fine game engine, it stops short of greatness due to some questionable design decisions and the action rather running out of steam in the second half of the game. There’s a hint of a storyline that guides you ... more

Advantages Advantages Local multiplayer, Cool graphics, Replay value

Disadvantages Disadvantages Copycat, copycat sitting on a door mat

Borderlands is a FPSRPG which stands for First Person Shooter Role-playing Game. In simple terms that means you shoot things and your character gains levels, people who have played games such as Fallout 3 will find this style of play very familiar and indeed much of the Borderlands experience feels "borrowed"from other titles, the over arching format as I have mentioned is very fallout esque, the cartoon style graphics are reminicisnt of the game XIII that was released a few years ago and even little details like the way item names are coloured to indicate their relative quality is identical to ... more

Advantages Advantages Great graphics, Unique gameplay style, very long and a great game.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can get a bit repetitive after a VERY long time.

I saw the wide range of weapons, that was all that convinced me to buy it. When I finally bought it, I realised it was so much more. It's given me lots of playtime, more than I've played any Call of Duty. (250 hours) This is free roam, the best free roam game i've played. There is always something to do, and I never got bored of this game. Especially as there is a wide range of DLC that adds at least 40 hours onto it. Maxed out my characters level.. I have finished with it now, so I gave it to a mate as a birthday present so he could enjoy it the same as I have done. It's probably not the best ... more

Advantages Advantages Millions of guns, very funny, addictive and top multiplayer action

    Disadvantages Disadvantages It ends . : - (

I have to confess that I had been getting bored of first-person shooters lately. Modern Warfare 2 was good but it was nothing really special. My interest in first person shooters has been given a shot in the arm by Borderlands and Bioshock. They have rejuvenated any lost interest. Borderlands is a first person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic future. It has a graphic novel/ comic look to the graphics and it is pretty funny. It is set out like a role playing game: you get experience for killing baddies, you get missions and you get more powerful as your levels increase. The key selling point ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks fantastic, challenging, and has longevity

Disadvantages Disadvantages Missions could become repetitive

Well, I picked this game up recently from Play.com on offer for £17.99 - and i haven'd been disappointed! While in my opinion it wouldn't be worth the normal full asking price, if it can be picked up for anything less than £25 it is a bargain. A First person shooter, in essence, but there are certainly many different elements to the game, such as having a bird which you can send out to start an attack for you if playing as one of the 4 characters, Mordecai. The game isn't short, which has been an issue in a few very good games recently, with 3 large areas, each containing a hefty selection of ... more

Advantages Advantages Great fun and takes along time to complete! Go and get it!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

This game is brilliant Its sort of a cross between fallout 3 and a shootemup The games is mission/quest based and has a main story line. There are also side jobs you can do for people for extra cash and goodies. The combination of weapons is unbelievably huge and you never see exactly the same weapon twice. There is allot of adult humour involved so maybe not to suitable for the young ones. The maps as well are a decent size and it does take some time to complete. (with the DLC it should take you about 3 or 4 weeks to do averaging a couple hours a day) The game itself on the ps3 runs smooth ... more
