Advantages: The sound, the size, the portability, the looks - and oh, the sound (again)! Disadvantages: The disappearing all-too-remote control.
...I went onto the Bose website (www.bose.co.uk) to check prices and postage costs. For a while I got sidetracked there, drooling over the noise-cancelling headphones (only £275!), browsing the wide range of speaker systems ("can be conveniently hidden behind furniture or curtains" it said. Now THAT would please Mrs Floon) and marvelling at many of the innovative products Bose were advertising.
When I finally made my way to the page offering the Wave ... ...And joy of joys, Bose even provided an 0800, free call number, not one of those money-eating 0870 numbers.
The salesman was helpful, polite and informative. It could scarcely have been easier. Now all we had to do was wait.
*** Delivery, Unpacking and Setting Up ***
The package arrived within four working days, a lot faster than I expected. There wasn't much of it - an average plastic carrier bag could have contained it.
It took seconds to open ...

Advantages: Small, Great sound, No wires Disadvantages: Pricey
...I first heard a Bose system in a Hi Fi shop in Cambridge and the demo blew me away. Admittedly it was not the wave music system but the acoustimass but I knew straight away I was going to be hooked on Bose. I have a Bose concert system installed in my Audi A4 and this is phenomenal but another story.
The Bose Wave music system is a small unit only 106mm high, 368mm wide and 219mm deep and weighs in at 3.9kg. It comes in platinum or graphite grey.
... ...bought mine direct from the Bose website and the service was just as you would expect from a reputable company and my new system arrived within a week.
The unit cost me around £500 so definitely not cheap and to be brutal doesn't look that good but that's a matter of opinion.
Now what does it sound like?
Absolutely cracking. I have had some good kit in my time and have gone down the route of expensive component systems with serious cables and ...

Advantages: Awesome sound Disadvantages: Unusual design and few features
...due to the technology that Bose have put together. There are no speakers as such, but a tube similar to flute or trombone that amplifies the sound with incredible clarity. This makes it able to fill the larger than average living room with quality sound.
Flashing lights!! How 80's is that? The controls are simple and the display only reads track and radio frequency information. What more do you need? It has a repeat track/disc function and that's ... ...a little. If you enjoy tweaking the sounds to your own taste then you'll be disappointed. There is now a multiplay disc option but sadly not as standard. An additional unit can be plugged into the base of the main system to bring in the added feature of additional CD's being readily available.
The remote is compact, about the size of a credit card, and contains all the functions you could require.
Looks - This is always a matter of taste. Personally ...

Well, well, well as I draw nearer to my fiftieth review, I have to say that Ciao is brilliant, I simply love it! And now is the turn for me to review the Bose™ Wave Radio/CD, as I have tried to before but Ciao have only just started to list it, so here we go! As a short introduction though before we start the full review, I’d like to say that this is the most fabulous portable CD/Radio I have ever, seen or heard!
Sound Quality
==========
Now, ... ...kit, although you definitely get what you pay for, or in this case, so much more! It is so clear it is incredible, and when you combine it with an iPod, playing 320kbps it is simply implausible! I mean if you put it at say half volume, and play a vocal song, such as Norah Jones, Jamie Cullum etc, it will sound like they are actually there in your kitchen or wherever you decide to put this piece of wonder. If you play a CD through it, it is still ...

...a neat trick with the bose tho, because of the technology in it alot of the bass comes out that back, so if you put it into a corner, or next to ure sofa in the corner, it sounds so much better, the bass is really unberlivable when this is done. I use it as i do use in my bedroom as an alarm clock, woken up by bose sound quality means i cant wait for my alarm to go off now! ...

Review of Bose WAVE Music System
Advantages: Compact, sound busting, music as it should be heard Disadvantages: I want to have the full Monty and will have to save for eoans...
...have often looked at the Bose adverts in the Sunday Supplements and wondered just how many people buy Bose this way, because for me until you have heard a Bose System you will never understand the depth of music you can have in your home.
The unit may not be 'pretty' it has no real gismos or flashing lights. It is, plain and simple, a music system beyond compare.
When you listen to your music through this wave system the clarity and depth is almost ... ...convinced, then go to a Bose shop, be served by the most wonderful sales people and feel the passion they feel about their product, get a demo and just be blown away by the sheer quality of this system and all their other products.
It will, I promise, make you want to have one.
The remote is tiny and durable and as slim as twiggy.
Yes, it is expensive in cold light, without hearing it. However every penny is well spent and you really will be happy ...

The radio comes with its own arial and depending on where you live depends on the signal you get. Generally speaking the sound quality is very good.
Some music Genre's do not sound as good as others. I have found that most Rock tracks the bass overwhelmes the rest of the music. If you are into jazz, blues or a very good ...

Advantages: see remarks Disadvantages: see remarks
The trouble with the Bose WAVE musci system is that its acoustic set-up is based (pun intended) on the assumption that one size fits all, and this isn't true. The upper and middle registers are nice and clear - good for a cappella singing - and the enhanced bass works fine for music which is intended to have a strong bass line, e.g. organ music. However, chamber and other small ensemble music comes over seriously different from anything you're likely ... ...by a pop group. Bose makes Corelli's Concerti Grossi sound as though they were composed for a troupe of dancing elephants. There is no way of getting round this for CDs - no bass and treble controls, no way to turn off the hyperbass effect. Lovers of classical and pre-classical music, steer clear. ...

Advantages: Sound Quality. Disadvantages: No headphone facility.
The Bose Wave Radio and CD is absolutely astounding. It is like listening to an orchestra from a one man band. The unit is built like a tank, but is portable. You are not going to get much change from £400 but the company themselves offer six months interest free credit accompanying this is free delivery. The Bose wave technolgy is at the heart of this piece of magical engineering, it can fill a room with music as if it were coming from an audiophiles ... ...be amazed. There is a facility for extra inputs if needed as in a mini-disc player e.t.c.
It has infra red remote control, and all the switches are on the top, with a manual lift-up CD lid.
It's a slim and aesthetically stylish design which has a reasonably modern look. it incorporates a run of the mill 75 ohm FM aerial socket with input output jacks. The AM clarity is well above average, but the FM even when connected to a dedicated Radio Aerial, ...

...making the switch and the BOSE unit now sits on a storage cabinet in my living room.
Sound quality is superb and the clarity produced by the WAVE system is as promised. If you can, I'd certainly shell out the extra dosh for the multi-changer CD option. Customer service is exceptional - the one problem I have with the machine is the tiny, credit card sized remote control which I promptly lost within a week of receiving the system - however, one phone ... ...no cost within days. Keep it somewhere very safe as there are no buttons on the unit; understandable but annoying if your dog took a shine to the remote! The unit is stylish, compact and wire-free - keep an eye out for the ads in the pages of weekend supplements in the papers as when I ordered I got a free mini-DVD player and 5 months interest free credit which made the unit really good value for money.
I sold the DVD player on EBAY for £35 by the ...

Quick review of Bose WAVE Music System
This is absolutely superb. Having listened to one, you will want it. Even at high volume there is no distortion and even though it is a small unit, it can still fill a room from its 2 speakers. My only criticism is with its internal aerial which does not receive a sufficiently strong signal down here in Cornwall to do justice to radio broadcasts. Connect to a broadcast from a digital source with the supplied cabling (Sky, eg) however, and the quality is once again wonderful. Losing the remote control might prove to be a problem as there are no controls anywhere on the unit, so ejecting a CD without the remote would not be possible. ...

Advantages: COMPACT & EASY TO USE Disadvantages: UGLY DESIGN!!
This compact (if somewhat ugly in design) music system is a little gem!
For it's small size the sound that comes out is something else!
This little system plays your cd's as they truely sound. When you hear your cd's for the first time you can pick out the sounds/ backgrounds that you can not hear on any conventional hi-fi.
With crystal clear sound, you can sit anywhere in a room and get the same sound as it's speaker system allows sound to bounce ... ...hook up through your TV too. With this you don't need several strategically placed speakers round your room, you get it all from one small box!
The platinum white colour to me is more of an off white with a grey band acrooss the front centre. The unit can be bought with a rather small credit card sized remote control and you can purchase a 5 cd changer and an optional plinth to sit the unit on so you can hook it up to tv, dvd or video.
Although ...

Advantages: Excellent quality and reliability Disadvantages: Handbook and sensitive controls
The Bose Wave Radio and CD player has been our general day-to-day facility for approximately 5 years and during that time has provided an excellent clarity of sound and ease of use. We chose this model for this feature and also because its controls were easy to use. We as a family continue to place coffee cups and magazines on it, and to our delight occasionally it switches itself on - a classical ghost!
After years of use we have found some negative ... ...at times we find the CD player pause and start buttons mean that we have pressed pause when we thought it was start. The remote control has not been used - it is very small. The machine also tend to be used by us on the one station - we do not find it easy to move stations. As you can tell we are not very technical but the radio works for us!
However it is not too large and looks reasonably modern. Overall this is a durable and reliable machine ...
