CIAO REVIEW - DATED 12-02-09 Titled: NO VACANCIES IN THIS B&B BRADFORD AND BINGLEY The natural instinct of capitalism is to devour all wounded. No humanistic values matter in the financial sector. Capitalism has hit a ?brick-wall? and now ?new capitalism? has to be re-born for capitalistic markets to be recognised as having any worth. Hence, the lending laws, have been changed along with FISCAL laws along with reviewing financial sectors; whether for it?s worth or basic ethic criteria; No I re-phrase it, cut the ?ethic? part. I?m trying to be not politically correct, but just accurate with my ... more

Advantages Advantages still have some good savings rates, good customer service, easy to open

Disadvantages Disadvantages PLC??!!, More emphasis on borrowing/mortgages/share dealing as oppossed to savings

11.02.01 note: As this opinion is submitted under Accounts/Bradford& Bingley [B&B] it relates to the B&B in general; before and after conversion to PLC status, with emphasis on the type of account I opened and why. You may be wondering why I am talking about fashion in relation to banks and building societies..well apparently the financial institutions all use “trends” just as we follow fashion..and their conclusion is…. that savings are just not as fashionable these days…so just what is then..? Bradford & Bingley’s history goes back a long way..to 1851 to be ... more

Advantages Advantages independent , friendly staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages now a PLC so savings rates likely to drop

Bradford& Bingley is now a bank and a PLC floated on the London stock market . The shares have risen in a falling market by around 30 pence a share currently as I write this. Flotation occured in early December of last year with the average "payout" being 250 for most customers. The former West Yorkshire building society has fallen victim to carpetbaggers and whilst no-one will turn the're nose up at the free windfall , the longer term implications are not so good. As a PLC they now have dividends to pay out to shareholders and so face cuts in their service to find the extra money to pay for ... more

I really cant speak highly enough of Bradford and Bingley. I have been a customer there for years, having gone though a range of products inculding savings accounts and fixed term bonds. In all my experience with Banks and Building Societies I have never encountered a business as efficient and professional yet still able to retain the friendly and comfortable atmosphere of a smaller, more personal business. I recently invested in a B&B fixed term bond. When i made enquiries about purchasing this product i was shown immediatley to a private office and no sooner had i sat down i was shown all ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range of accounts. Competitive. Offshore Accounts

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quality of service declined recently. Not many branches in the South

I have had accounts with the Bradford & Bingley Building Society since 1979 when I obtained my very first mortgage with them and was required to open a savings account. That was in Yorkshire and,of course, there are a lot of branches of B&BBS in that county. I have long since paid off the mortgage but I still have two accounts with this Building Society, one in England and another offshore in the Isle of Man. B&BBS has converted to a bank and I,along with thousands of other investors, hoped to get windfall in the form of shares. However, I have yet to receive any payment. My experience with the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great service,firendly people

Disadvantages Disadvantages no card system and long queues

I have had an account at Bradford and Bingley now for 9 years, but never really paid much attention to it until last December when £650 was so kindly injected into it (i am ever grateful to the vote of the shareholders!) After this surge of cash,i decided to get acquainted with my bank as i was going to be spending a lot of time there! However, now its been a year and i feel as if iam constantly in queues in the B&B waiting to draw out quite embarrassing sums of money.I enquired about a cash card which would really ease my eternal queuing but was told, very kindly, that they no longer issue cards ... more

I recently tried to open an e-saver account with Bradford and Bingley. It was a terrible experience. The opening details were supposed to come in the post: they never arrived. I was sent all sorts of emails demanding that I should put an opening balance into the account or it would be closed, but was unable to do so because of not having an account log-in. The call centre number was never answered. I have now given up and am trying Alliance and Leicester!

bradford and bingley is being sold off to the dogs, and memebers will get a slice of the action via a windfall - but the question on most people's lips is "what should i do" - do i keep the shares forever, for a while or get rid on day one! Well, like anything else, there is no right or wrong answer - it depends on your timescales, priorities and otehr needs. generally of course shares do well in the long term - but ask yourself this - why should i keep them? the situation is clear - every man and his dog are becoming a bank - from virgin to tesco to the man living at the end of your street ... more

Very poor customer service. On opening a savings on line account it took 5 weeks longer than quoted which cost me loss of interest. When eventually opened erros made.Causes due to 1) failure to respond to communications (3 occassions) 2)Failure to send out promised documents(3 occassions) 3))Lost documents (2 occassions) 4)And when finally opened Failure to act on written instructions casusing funds to be removed which will cause alot of paper work to recover. Generally a company to avoid unless you want a headache. These errors or rather a lack of customer care occurred opening a single account. Significant contravention of the ... more

Lifetime saver with BBBS and my mortgage through them . They must now be the most uncompetitive operator??. Waited oner 12 months, getting savings rates of less than 4% whilst waiting to hear of their windfall rates, which ended up measly. Quickly then moved savings out. Moved house insurance away from mortgage, found it less than half price elsewhere. Then complained about mortgage rate last year. Got 1% disc for 5 years but with redemption penalty of nearly £3000. Recently written to them asking for better deal, ability to have flexible payments, to pay some off, to have bigger discount and ... more
