Advantages Advantages Provides peace of mind

Disadvantages Disadvantages Your child has to be poorly

One of the easiest ways to check a child’s well-being is by their temperature, which can indicate the onset of most childhood illnesses. Placing your hand on a child’s head can give a rough indication of whether a child is experiencing a temperature, however, this cannot give an accurate reading, and if a child’s temperate rises above 40C then they are in danger, so it is vital for parents to have an accurate thermometer that is reliable. If you are able to get an accurate reading of your child’s temperature at home then you can treat it effectively without the need of going to the doctors ... more

A baby thermometer is one of the essential items that I think you need when you bring a new baby home. They always seem to be running a temperature at some point and usually Calpol will get rid of it but for those times when you need to monitor it and keep a really close eye on it a digital thermometer is essential. If you have ever tried to take a baby's temperature you will know it is fairly difficult as they are always squirming. Obviously you cannot put a regular thermometer in their mouth as they will never keep it there and although I haven't tried it before I don't think a thermometer ... more

    Advantages Advantages Easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages A new lens filter should be used each time you take a temperature.

Thermoscan digistal thermometer is a handy bit of equipment to have in order to determine your temperature quickly and easily. I have two childen and have has this since before the ledest was born - he is 5. I wuld say a thermometer of this type, one where the temperature is taken in teh ear, is a must when you have children. Other methods of taking a temperature are fiddly and take a loner time to achieve teh desired result - knowing what the temperature is, this method and particualrly with the braun thermoscan, the outcome is easily achieved. Ideally each time a temperature is taken a new ... more

When having my booking in appointment with my first child the midwife had asked us if there was any history of temperature fits in the families, there is history on my side but it came to light that my husband had infact suffered them when he was little. The midwife told us that we would have to keep an eye on our baby if they were ever to get a temperature up to the age of 5 years old, we were told that if the baby had not had a fit by 1 year old then they probably wouldn't but we weren't safe until 5 years old. We decided then to put thermometer on our list of baby things although we really ... more

Advantages Advantages Accurate, easy to use and well made

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite expensive, ear cover refills also expensive

After trying to use an under arm thermometer on my little man several times during illnesses I soon came to the conclusion that these were just not accurate enough, took too long to read the temperature and because of this it was difficult to keep a young child still enough. Working for a nursery chain I knew that the Braun Ear Thermometer was our favoured brand so I did not hesistate in purchasing one myself, even though it cost me £40 at the time (i believe you can now buy this if you shop around for between £30-£40). ** About Braun ** Braun was a german company established in 1921 by a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Works fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages not always accurate

We bought this thermometer just before Christmas. Mrs B recommended it saying that it is the same as what our GP friends have and so I bought it. Our previous thermometer kept being unreliable, it wouldn't turn on and the readings were always very low so we didn't trust it. We thought we could trust this. At first it all seemed really good and we were pleased. It is easy to use. It is shaped long and quite thin and is comfortable to hold not that that really matters as you only use it for a few seconds. You turn it on and on the screen it shows the last reading. You then place it in the ear ... more

I have had a few thermoeters for my daughter but this one is the best by far. My doctor actually recommended it. The one I had previously was a cheaper one and I found it to be really unrealible, by giving very different readings depending on the angle which you held it so I thought paying extra money for this one would be a good idea! I am glad I did! As much as I hate using this as it means I'm suspecting that my daughter is poorly, I do love how good it is. It has a protective covering on the tip which helps you to reduce infection; it comes with a box with several others in so you can ... more
