The blade is housed in a plastic cup with a fluted edge which is the anti-splash shield. This is supposed to ensure the food stays in the bowl. I tend to find though if I tilt it too much I cover myself, anyone near me and the hob or work surface with splatters - maybe that is when I should be using the slower speed? ...

...blender was very sturdy. The Braun chopper bowl does however have a non-slip base to make it safer. I bought mine for £19.44 at Asda, although, according to Ciao it is £2 cheaper on Amazon. At under £20 I think it is good value for money and I don't recommend false economy (like mine!) if you are looking for a quality product for regular use. It even has a 2 year manufacturer's guarantee, so it should last longer than its predecessors! ...

When both my old Braun Blenders broke within a couple of weeks I worked out how much use they had had in their lifetime. One was over 10 years old, the other was about 8 years old. bought when I first met my husband and we had two homes for a few years. The older blenders did not take apart to wash. My Mum got this for me when I wanted a hand-blender after my child was born. This blender is great! I use the mixing bowl to turn granulated sugar into castor or icing sugar for baking and it's works a treat. The blending part is invaluable with a young baby and is now being used for No 3. This is a really handy item to have around the kitchen. You will be suprised at how many uses you can find for it. Essentially it will be mainly used for chopping, whisking, blending etc but it can handle most products with its hardy blade.
