Advantages Advantages good story, funny at times

Disadvantages Disadvantages writing style, chapter length

Bravo Two Zero - Andy McNab Introduction This was one of many books released in the aftermath of the Gulf War, I am pretty sure this was the first one being published in 1993. It was subsequently turned into a film and is possibly the most famous SAS/Gulf War book around today. Andy McNab tells the true story of the ill-fated Bravo Two Zero mission deep behind enemy lines in Iraq with a lot of technical details but also plenty of story. Plot This will be shorter than usual as really, it is pretty short. As it is a true story, many people know the 'ending' and those who don't can use common ... more

    Advantages Advantages Compelling read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Is it too sensationalised?

The story of Bravo Two Zero is by now quite well known. It became a huge hit in the bookseller list when it was released, has become a (dramatised) film and much newspaper column length has been attributed to this story. The story is of 8 members of the SAS operating covertly in Iraq in January 1991. Tasked with severing underground communication links and to seek and destroy scud missile launchers the mission became compromised from the start. After detection by the Iraqis the team commenced a make or break dash for the Syrian border, fighting patrols and armoured units along the way. In ... more

Bravo Two Zero --------------------- Bravo Two Zero was one of the best books I've read in a long while. The story follows Bravo Two Zero leader, Sergeant Andy McNab and his band of brothers. The Plot ----------- In January 1991, eight members of the SAS regiment embarked upon top secret mission that was to infiltrate them deep behind enemy lines. Under the command of Sergeant Andy McNab, they were to sever the underground communication link between Baghdad and Northwest, and to seek and destroy mobile scud launchers. Advantages Advantages Riveting.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Makes you realise how evil mankind can be

We were all aware of the role played by the British Army in the Gulf War but little was known of the exploits of the SAS at the time, this book seeks to redress that with a brutal account of an 8 man patrol detailed with severing the underground communication link between Baghdad and North West Iraq, oh yeah, and they also had the task of locating and taking out the threat of Iraq’s scud missiles !!! The story is written by the Sergeant of the mission Andy McNab and was to become one of the most critically acclaimed “war story” novels ever. It chronicles from start to finish ... more

    Advantages Advantages Epic Story

Disadvantages Disadvantages How Much Is True?

It has now been 16 years since the ill-fated SAS patrol with the call sign ‘Bravo Two Zero’ endured an ordeal of epic proportion behind enemy lines in Iraq, but it is a story once read never forgotten. This has to be one of the best books I have ever read, and what gives this truly astonishing story an edge over other books is the fact it is real. It is a tale of human bravery, suffering, and the will to survive on a scale most of us will never experience. This book blew open the doors of secrecy surrounding the soldiers who make up this truly remarkable regiment, and told a story so ... more

    Advantages Advantages great gripping story

    Disadvantages Disadvantages bad language

This is a great book about a true event in the Gulf War. The book is griping, and impossible to put down. The book when I read it put realism about the war. What pain our Special Forces soldiers were put through. Plus how barbaric the Arabs were. The story takes you through the build up to it, the planning of the patrol for their mission and commentary through out the mission. The language of the book is typical of a Special Forces book, full of swearing, which some people think is unnecessary, but I thought put the thing into context. I would definitely recommend any body who is interested in ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Read Real Eye Opener To The Real World

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very Disturbing And Cold Hearted

It's a morning in January 1991, when 8 members of the SAS regiment embarked upon a top secret mission that was to infiltrate them deep behind enemy lines in Iraq. Under the command of Sergeant Andrew McNab (Andy) their mission was to sever the underground communication link between northwest Iraq and Baghdad. Each man carried 15stones of equipment as they patrolled 20km across flat desert to reach their target! Within days their location was compromised, after a huge firefight they were forced to escape and evade on foot the only realistically place to go was the Syrian border. In the hard ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good Read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Bravo 2 Zero is the story of a gone wrong mission behind enemy lines in the gulf war in kuwait and iran. Andy McNabb is leading a small troop of SAS soldiers on a top secret counter measures misson. An interesting account of how the mission started then how it all turned to disaster because they didnt kill a simple goat man, This then lead to being chased by numerous iraqi units accross the desert with the aim of making it to the safe border of syria they were captured. The story then went into graphic detail of how they were interrogated by Iraqi soldiers. Men were beaten like animals but ... more

Advantages Advantages An excellent view of the SAS's role in the Gulf

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit too graphic for young readers

Just recently, a member of the Bravo Two Zero patrol, who is recieving a court martial for writing his book, commented that McNab's 'Bravo Two Zero' is 'grossly exaggerated'. McNab faced a lot of criticism about this book. Firstly, he was the first to write about his time in the SAS and explain missions that should have been kept top secret. Secondly, his book inspired a vast amount of SAS and ex-SAS blokes (and one woman) to do the same. Thirdly, due to the varying accounts of each member of the patrol, his story is percieved as inaccurate by both his cellmate and other patrol members ... more

Advantages Advantages All action account with description for military terms

Disadvantages Disadvantages Questions over the accuracy of the account

The first of the biographies to be written after the Gulf War it gives a first hand account of what happened in the war that most of us assumed was an easily won war. Unlike other biographies that have come from this expedition this one gives an insite into what happened to all the members of the patrol. The subsequent versions of events given in other members biographies has led some to question the truthfulness of Andy McNab's account. Whatever you think of it this is a well written account of how even the most highly trained soldiers can make mistakes. Also without the correct equipment it ... more
