"...not contain the best review Britannia Music Club would like to read, but it is only their fault it will end up in legal information that will help people escape the criminal tactics BMC have employed to get members. Theediscerning first joined Britannia many moons ago, when he was a youth, knee-high to a grasshopper, and incredibly naïve. This was so long ago, that Britannia were trading in both those new CD things, and music tapes (remember them?). ..." Read review

Britannia does not rule the waves

AdvantagesNone apparent

DisadvantagesToo numerous to mention

"...I responded to was for Britannia - Mail Order Videos and Music. The deal was to receive The Lord of the Rings on DVD or VHS on the day of release for £1.47. WOW! So I signed up - my husband is a hobbit in a previous life so what else could I do? It arrived 4 days after release and 4 days after I had gone to Sainsbury's and bought the video for £12.99 so my husband could watch it along with every other Tolkein freak. Not impressed. Then ..." Britannia Can Kiss My Arse

AdvantagesSpecial offers

DisadvantagesExpensive, sharp marketing practices, duff phone system, poor choice

"...based sellers. My experience withthe Britannia Music Company should explain why I think this way. Britannia have been one of the premier catalogue-based music retailers for some time. They are obviously successful - they have their own music awards for starters. Not only that, if you judge by the number of adverts and mailers you see in the media, and by the number of subsidiary companies they run, they must be pretty successful. But as far as ..." My Dreadful Experience

AdvantagesAppealing introductory offer.

DisadvantagesBad customer services, bad service, high prices, prone to mistakes with membership and enquiries. Up to 2-3 mailings a month. I could go on and on.

"...club. Another quick call to Britannia solved the oversight and sent me the correct members introduction booklet. Since my introduction I have been swamped with mail. I thought I would receive one magazine guide with recommended title order form each month. Now it seems I get two, one a general club magazine with recommended title and a single DVD letter (such as a new release) and recommendations every month. As the process to cancel recommended ..." Let meee entertain you RIP OFF

AdvantagesThe leaflet is quite good NOT

DisadvantagesThe whole lot

"Britannia Music, well what can I say? Sounds like an offer too good to be true, in their leaflet they say “But one CD for £9.99 and get 5 free” – can this really be so? Well I joined Britannia in 1999, I was at University, money was scare and I loved music, so what more could I ask for? What an offer! I found one of their leaflets in a magazine which I had recently purchased, an apt place to put them to ensure people see them ..." Read review

Not as good value as you might think

AdvantagesGood range, including all musical tastes; free CDs after you buy so many at full price

DisadvantagesFull prices is very expensive, lots of recommedned recordings to reject

"...to buying six. Admittedly, Britannia has recently started reducing some of their 'full price' prices, but you will still pay a lot more than you would on the High Street, or online. I concede that if you buy loads and loads of CDs, then Britannia just might be for you. They have a fantastic range on their website, and some bargains they offer really are great value. Previously, you were allowed to purchase one bonus priced CD for every regular ..." Read review

Don't get mugged...I did

Advantagesspecial introductory offers

Disadvantagesexpensive once you've joined, editor's choices sent unless you specifically request otherwise, poor customer service, no redeeming features whatsoever

"...by the promotional material from Britannia that you find in just about every magazine and daily newspaper. "Buy 4 DVD's for the price of 1!!", "4 DVDs for only 3.99 each!!" So I went ahead and joined. What an idiot I am. Just in case some don't understand Britannia run various 'clubs' but in fact when you join one, you are automatically allowed to order from the others, so although this op is in the music section, by joining the music club you ..." do you have 'mug' across your forehead - I do

Advantagesbargain... of sorts

Disadvantageswill cost you much much more in postage

"I read a letter to the editor in a paper over Christmas suggesting that someone should sign up Osama Bin Laden to Readers Digest as they were bound to find him. The same I think could be said of Britannia. Ever conscious of just how blasted expensive Christmas is, and also buying CDs on a pretty regular basis anyway, I was tempted by the devil and bought into the 'buy one for £13.99 and get five free' offer from Britannia. Of course you have to ..." Read review

Britannia music not for me

AdvantagesCheap CDs at beginning.

DisadvantagesYou become tied in, and problems with your account are always happening

"...have encountered various problems with Britannia music mail order club. The deal to join up was fantastic! 4 CDs for about a tenner! I chose 4 CDs that I had always wanted, but not wanted them enough to go to HMV and fork out 11 quid each for. This seemed great to me, and all I had to do in return was to buy 6 recordings at 'regular' price. Fair? Yes if the 'regular price' was regualar - i.e. normal. This would be a great deal, after all, the overheads ..." Read review

Avoid Them At All Costs

AdvantagesFirst CDs are cheap

DisadvantagesBad for your blood pressure. inept service

"...leaflet or booklet for the Britannia Music Club regularly seems to fall on the doormat. I had always resisted the temptation before but useless parent that I am allowed myself to be persuaded by my son that it would be a good cost-effective way to buy CDs and improve our music collection. Cue round saucer eyes and head tilted to one side by my son and that was it, minutes later we were choosing our initial order of CDs. Now anecdotally I had heard ..." Read review

Massive Savings

AdvantagesA Massive saving

DisadvantagesRecommended recordings

"Dear Reader... I signed up for Britannia over the Internet and received my 6 CD's within the week. So I received 6 CD's for the price of 1. So if you work it out, I paid £12 for £72 pounds worth of goods. I soon got very interested in music and bought quite a few more. I bought 3 CDs, one CD at £12.99 and the other two come at a discount price, which they call "Bonus Price" Through that scheme I got them at £7.99. So a saving of around 7 pound, ..." Read review

Nothing special

AdvantagesCan get some good bargains

DisadvantagesNot enough price saving or choice

"Britannia Music's standard introductory offer is featured in many magazine adverts and appears extremely attractive. The mail order record retailer generally offers four CD's of your choice for about a tenner (They do vary the detail slightly, but it's always in these sort of terms). Now clearly, it's a pretty excellent offer, but it's obviously intended to get you to sign up in the hopes of bigger orders to come. If you do decide to sign up with ..." Read review

Long Term Savings

AdvantagesShop from home, quite a few freebies

DisadvantagesSome high pricing, caters more for commercial/mainstream taste

"Britannia Music is a mail order club for the purchasing of CD's. The initial attraction to join is a large saving. Offers vary slightly from time to time, but the usual format is multiple purchases for a greatly reduced price. Choose 6 CD's from a selection of around 150. For this first purchase you pay around £10 plus p&p. So, 6 CD's for less than £15, this is a great bargain. The range of music for your selection is normally quite reasonable, ..." Read review

Do not state what they mean

Advantagesnone at all

Disadvantagesterrible service, customer service no use

"I found Britannia to be absolutely pathetic service. I have been a member of this club for a while and decided to order some CDs for Christmas presents out of Britannia. For around three months before Christmas, in each of the catalogues I received, there was a warning notice stating that to GUARANTEE Christmas delivery, items should be ordered before December 17th. To be on the safe side I ordered my items around 2 weeks into November. However, ..." Read review

A new slant on Britannia Music Club

AdvantagesGreat selection, bonus prices all time

DisadvantagesHave to wait 1 to 2 weeks for CDs

"...have been a member of Britannia about 4 times over the years, in both regular music and classical music clubs. Of course the attraction is the initial 5 albums for the price of 1 (or whatever they offer at the time). This invariably works out as more than one album once you add their hefty postage charges on top. The club then becomes a bind - you have to buy 6 regular priced items in the first two years, and every time you get sent a magazine, ..." Read review
