After spending a lot of money buying overpriced cds and dvds and becoming an elite member (free postage WOW) I was shocked to find that they had used my bank details to illegally take two sums of money from my bank account and expected me to send them a statement to prove that they had done it before they offered me a refund - what a cheek!!!
They then sent me a cheque without a covering note to apologise - how rude!!! I will not be using this service again, elite member or not!! ...

Advantages: Well the introductory offer wasn't too bad Disadvantages: Easier to get rid of herpes, constant junkmail, ****ing USELESS!
I first signed up with Britannia sometime around 1998, things weren't too bad, with the introductory offer and so on..... then things went kind of downhill from there.
They send you a monthly recommended recording thing with their catalogue once a month, which you have to place a cross in a box and post back if you DON'T want them to send you it...... that'll set you back around £4.44 a year in Stamps.
Often they will also send additional recommendations ... ...couldn't give a flying **** about, such as Harry Potter or Bridget Jones or whatever.... so that's probably another £1.85 in Stamps.
That means so far they've set you back £6.29 in telling them you don't want them to send you an item you don't want.
However, things do not stop there...... this system is rather fallible, and 4 or 5times a year they will ****-up and send you the sodding CD / CASSETTE / DVD / Video anyway, which then means you have ...

I am a member of this club purely because i was a little short of cash at christmas and they had a deal of buy 1 get 3 free on dvds if i signed up to the club.
To be able to cancel your membership you must buy 6 items at FULL cost 3 within the first year. For a DVD this is £18.99 on average plus £1.25 postage. So in the end i am doing myself out of pocket anyway by paying almost twice the amount a supermarket charges for dvds.

The Britannia music club is a very good way of getting several albums very cheaply using their introductory offer. It's wonderful if you particularly want the four or five albums you order at the start. The problem of course is that you then have commitments to purchase further albums or videos for a few months afterwards. This is OK if you generally buy chart albums regularly anyway because they are usually cheaper than the high street. I found ... ...that I wanted to begin with very cheaply, rather than paying the rip-off prices that are normally charged for them. However what if they don't have anything you want the following month when you are obliged to make another purchase? Particularly when the choice offered is far less than a general retailer. Obviously it depends what sort of music you like and they do have videos, DVD'S and games as well. Also you're not committed for all that long. ...

I stupidly joined Britannia when I was about 16 and was sucked in by the prospect of getting 6 new CDs at once, and was in dire need of starting my CD collection. (Should really mention here that you are not supposed to join until you are 18, so that is clear that they never check their customers for credit and age etc.)
I really wouldn't reccommend Britannia to anyone now, especially now that there are very cheap CD websites. I think that another ... ...keep on the ball with Britannia every single month. You can't forget about it !!
Saying that though, when I was a member, I used to do it either all by post or phone up their phone line. Now you can cancel your editor's recommendations online and make payments online etc. which does make it more easy than it used to be, admittedly.
Another bad thing about Britannia is that they don't have new CDs straight away. So you had to wait until the next ...

...but could not find them. Britannia would not accept that I had posted them back, and I had no option other than to pay the £55.
Now, I have just had a similar letter for a DVD which they sent out in November. I really want to close my account with them, but they won't allow it until the balance is paid off. (It's about £25 this time for a DVD I'm not even sure if I've received).

Theediscerning first joined Britannia many moons ago, when he was a youth, knee-high to a grasshopper, and incredibly naïve. This was so long ago, that Britannia were trading in both those new CD things, and music tapes (remember them?). ... ...CDs. To some extent Britannia still rely on people who believe 12 CDs to amount to a collection.
But ‘free’ gifts regardless, the initial impetus was the 6 for the price for 1 offer, or even 6 at a penny, or some such. Buy one from the selection of recent hit albums, and you’d get another half-dozen of your choosing at apparently knock-down price. This must still apply today, and theediscerning could check if he bought the sorts of magazines that ...

...i had a call from Britannia music club with a fantastic offer, they were going to give me a free cd providing I joind the club, I thought that sounded great and it does doesn't it?
What really happened was that either I did not pay attention because I was ill or they failed to tell me, that I HAD to order 6 cds over the following 2 years. I ordered one and forgot about them. Then i was made redundant and buying expensive CD's were way down on my ... ...all why anyone should join Britannia when there are companies such as cd-wow or play.com who sell the cd much cheaper and post them foc.
They are unsympathetic and have no concern for life changing stuff such as redundancy, it's stressful enough without their added help!!
The free cd is not worth the charges they mark against further cd's as well as the fact that they charge p & p.
My advise is to get online to one of the other 2 mentioned above. ...

Yes i confess i am one of many who have fallen into the trap.I became a member of that club and i pre- orderd ice age( the 3rd title of my 6 i need in the first 2 years),it came this week 8 days past the release date,took 3 e mails and just as many phone calls to see if they had posted it and yes i had to pay more than Tesco's or any other store you can name. Then i had a bill before the video came.
What's more i haven't brought all 6 so i am stuck ...

The deal was to receive The Lord of the Rings on DVD or VHS on the day of release for £1.47. WOW! So I signed up - my husband is a hobbit in a previous life so what else could I do?
It arrived 4 days after release and 4 days after I had gone to Sainsbury's and bought the video for £12.99 so my husband could watch it along with every other Tolkein freak.
Not impressed.

Since my introduction I have been swamped with mail. I thought I would receive one magazine guide with recommended title order form each month. Now it seems I get two, one a general club magazine with recommended title and a single DVD letter (such as a new release) and recommendations every month. As the process to cancel recommended ... ...Well, as you probably guessed, Britannia dispatched the title to me. But did they dispatch one, no, they dispatched TWO! Now I could have accepted an oversight if they had arrived separately, but they arrived together, in the same box with an invoice for the two! I quickly sent them both back, but unfortunately had to pay for return postage (not like the nice folks at amazon.co.uk - See my upcoming Op.).
With so many problems, bad service, bad experience ...

Britannia Music, well what can I say? Sounds like an offer too good to be true, in their leaflet they say “But one CD for £9.99 and get 5 free” – can this really be so?
Well I joined Britannia in 1999, I was at University, money was scare and I loved music, so what more could I ask for? What an offer! I found one of their leaflets in a magazine which I had recently purchased, an apt place to put them to ensure people see them before ... ...me… Yippee…
Well with Britannia you get like a monthly magazine, this has a full listing of what CDs they have and how much they are….this is normally where the BUT comes in and this time it appears to be “HOW MUCH”…each single CD was £14.99, so that was at least £3 more than what was in HMV or Virgin for example, so I was mortified and what’s more the double CDs were £18.99 – what a complete and total ...

Britannia have been one of the premier catalogue-based music retailers for some time. They are obviously successful - they have their own music awards for starters.
