    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages See op (or the law books)

The title of this op will prove to you at a glance that it will not contain the best review Britannia Music Club would like to read, but it is only their fault it will end up in legal information that will help people escape the criminal tactics BMC have employed to get members. Theediscerning first joined Britannia many moons ago, when he was a youth, knee-high to a grasshopper, and incredibly naïve. This was so long ago, that Britannia were trading in both those new CD things, and music tapes (remember them?). They were only just beginning to spread into video as an off-shoot too. Back then ... more

I am a member of Mypoints - for better or for worse - I haven't got enough points to be thrilled yet. One offer of theirs that I responded to was for Britannia - Mail Order Videos and Music. The deal was to receive The Lord of the Rings on DVD or VHS on the day of release for £1.47. WOW! So I signed up - my husband is a hobbit in a previous life so what else could I do? It arrived 4 days after release and 4 days after I had gone to Sainsbury's and bought the video for £12.99 so my husband could watch it along with every other Tolkein freak. Not impressed. Then I received my bill for the video ... more

    Advantages Advantages Special offers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, sharp marketing practices, duff phone system, poor choice

I can honestly say I have now found a branch of e-commerce which has proven to be more than just a fancy method of mail order. When you’re buying a CD the online services have really become head and shoulders above the more "traditional" catalogue based sellers. My experience withthe Britannia Music Company should explain why I think this way. Britannia have been one of the premier catalogue-based music retailers for some time. They are obviously successful - they have their own music awards for starters. Not only that, if you judge by the number of adverts and mailers you see in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Appealing introductory offer.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bad customer services, bad service, high prices, prone to mistakes with membership and enquiries. Up to 2-3 mailings a month. I could go on and on.

I am not one to easily call something an absolute failure, I am willing to accept a degree of human error and try to remember that I could make similar mistakes. But this organisation just seems to be out purposely to disappoint people. This is the worse company I have ever had dealings with. Lets stat with the introductory offer. I saw an advertisement on an online banner for 4 DVD’s for the price of one. So I clicked and browsed the selection of DVD's (which, was to give them a little credit, impressive) and the small print. I was willing to accept purchasing 6 DVD's from them during my ... more

Advantages Advantages The leaflet is quite good NOT

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The whole lot

Britannia Music, well what can I say? Sounds like an offer too good to be true, in their leaflet they say “But one CD for £9.99 and get 5 free” – can this really be so? Well I joined Britannia in 1999, I was at University, money was scare and I loved music, so what more could I ask for? What an offer! I found one of their leaflets in a magazine which I had recently purchased, an apt place to put them to ensure people see them before or as they bin them! Anyway, one the leaflet it tells you all about their special offer of buying one CD for £9.99 as it was then and get 5 free ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range, including all musical tastes; free CDs after you buy so many at full price

Disadvantages Disadvantages Full prices is very expensive, lots of recommedned recordings to reject

When you see the glossy adverts on the back of magazines, you are told what a great deal you will get on buying music if you sign up with Britannia. I signed up almost two years ago and chose 5 CDs, got 1 free (which I didn't like, but never mind) and only paid for one. The problem from there onwards is that you are committed to buying 6 full price CDs, at least 3 in your first year of membership. And how much is full price? you well might ask. £11.99? £12.99, no, a single CD usually costs £14.99, and add to that £1.26 for postage and packing. £16.25 for 1 CD does not seem like a very good ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive once you've joined, editor's choices sent unless you specifically request otherwise, poor customer service, no redeeming features whatsoever

Well I admit it. I got mugged. Suckered by the promotional material from Britannia that you find in just about every magazine and daily newspaper. "Buy 4 DVD's for the price of 1!!", "4 DVDs for only 3.99 each!!" So I went ahead and joined. What an idiot I am. Just in case some don't understand Britannia run various 'clubs' but in fact when you join one, you are automatically allowed to order from the others, so although this op is in the music section, by joining the music club you get access to their DVDs/Videos and vice versa. So how does it work? Well you order using their promotional ... more

    Advantages Advantages bargain... of sorts

Disadvantages Disadvantages will cost you much much more in postage

I read a letter to the editor in a paper over Christmas suggesting that someone should sign up Osama Bin Laden to Readers Digest as they were bound to find him. The same I think could be said of Britannia. Ever conscious of just how blasted expensive Christmas is, and also buying CDs on a pretty regular basis anyway, I was tempted by the devil and bought into the 'buy one for £13.99 and get five free' offer from Britannia. Of course you have to buy 6 full price CDs over the course of 2 years but that's not a problem really if you buy them reasonably regularly anyway, and of course wait for the ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap CDs at beginning.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You become tied in, and problems with your account are always happening

I have encountered various problems with Britannia music mail order club. The deal to join up was fantastic! 4 CDs for about a tenner! I chose 4 CDs that I had always wanted, but not wanted them enough to go to HMV and fork out 11 quid each for. This seemed great to me, and all I had to do in return was to buy 6 recordings at 'regular' price. Fair? Yes if the 'regular price' was regualar - i.e. normal. This would be a great deal, after all, the overheads for a mail order company are far less than a large record shop in the High Street, so prices could be lower. Not with Britannia. 'Regular' ... more

I am sure we have all received the junk mail before now. A promotional leaflet or booklet for the Britannia Music Club regularly seems to fall on the doormat. I had always resisted the temptation before but useless parent that I am allowed myself to be persuaded by my son that it would be a good cost-effective way to buy CDs and improve our music collection. Cue round saucer eyes and head tilted to one side by my son and that was it, minutes later we were choosing our initial order of CDs. Now anecdotally I had heard tales of how bad Britannia could be and how bad the service was if anything ... more
