Britannia Music Club [TV Advertisement]

I joined Britannia video club after being tempted by the "amazing" offer. It consisted of 4 video's free for joining up with them as long as I purchased 4 video's over the next two years. As I am a frequent movie watcher I thought this offer was great but little was I aware of the hidden catches involved! Firstley when I received my video's I was billed for the postage and packaging of each video so that was £2.95x four, for supposedly free video's? ...
...can't prove a thing as they are not on a recorded delivery system. I must admit i haven't done the latter but I know people who are so fed up that they have. I am surprised Britannia have been going this long because they are an absolute disgrace!! ...

I joined Britannia a few years ago and it was trouble from the outset. The initail cd offer had attracted me but like everything in this world if it looks to good to be true then it probably is and this is the case with Britannia. OK so you have to purchase 6 cd's over two years (three each year), if you do happen to buy six CD's in your first year then you still have to buy three in the second year. This company have got a good strategy going. The offer of buying 1 CD and getting 4 free was just to tempting for me, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm sure you've heard of them as they put their leaftets in every magazine and newspaper known to man. Britannia – a name alsmot synonymos with junk mail, unwanted orders and rip-off prices. And I knew all of this before I joined. So, you may think, why on earth did I bother? In the past I have been a member of Britannia, Music and Computer club, well basicly they are nothing but CON-MERCHANTS. The way they get you hooked in is by offering you a tremendous bargain, as in lets say the Music CD`s, they`ll offer you 6 for the price of one. You send for these thinking WOW thats a great bargain, but what you dont realise is that you are signing an agreement stating that you`ll buy at least SIX of their "special choices" ...
...for two years, in total you`ll end up buying 12 Cd`s, the problems is, they want to charge you something like £13.99 plus P+P, and I would'nt mind half the time the CD`s they send you are the one`s that you see in ASDA, WOOLIES, etc..you know the ones they can`t sell and have on offer at about £5.00. I joined Britannia back in April 1999. What a mistake! I decided to take up their offer of buying 4 CD's for £12.99. I joined, knowing I would have to make six regular purchases in two years. When I got my first catalogue I was shocked. Their regular priced CD's were £14.99! Even then, they insisted on adding £1.25 postage on top of that per CD. I joined before I got the internet, and even then I thought that £14.99 was bad, but now I can get CD's ...
...for another six months. When CD's are released in the shops, you will have to wait at least six months before the title comes in your catalogue! To be fair to them, you do get a bonus purchase for every regular you make. The average bonus album being £8.99. Some bonus albums are as low as £4.99, but never anything much lower. I thought that the savings I'd make whilst being a member would be huge, but overall I think I've lost out. ...

I have been a member of Britannia Music Club for many years and have always received good service from them. On the rare occasions when there has been a slip-up it has been put right quite quickly and postage has been refunded. Having bought hundreds of classical CDs, mostly at very reasonable prices, I am now an Elite Gold member and receive 10% off everything I buy, as well as free postage. Furthermore, I do not have to worry about Records of the Month as they are are no longer sent. Obviously, the more you buy, the greater the benefits, but I can truly say that I have discovered a world of wonderful, little known music, such as 20th century British composers, Zemlinsky, Suk, Enescu, Arvo Part, Nielsen, Reinecke, Rubinstein and Rott, which I would probably never have investigated were it not for the fact that they were recommended in the magazine and were offered at very attractive prices. ...
