I decided to do a wee review on this car safety seat - the Brittax Eclipse. This seat performs fabulously well in my opinion so read on and find out just why I have so much faith in Brittax and the Eclipse in particular............
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE AND WHAT FEATURES DOES IT HAVE ?
This seat is one huge beast as far as its dimensions go !! its around 80 cm high and around 40 wide. It doesnt sound too bad on paper so to speak but trust me when ... ...seat itself must have been on the red bull as it certainly has a whopping pair of wings on either side of it. Ideal for when your child falls asleep. In other seats we have had, manal has fallen asleep in such awkward positions and we havent been able to move her due to the fact were driving so its good to know that her head and neck are sufficiently supported in this car seat.
The seat does come in a variety of colour chemes but the basic pattern ...

...seat for £69.99 and the Britax Eclipse Si, which was originally £99.99 but reduced to £79.99 for the safety week event. Both were suitable for children aged approximately 9 months - 4 years, or 9 -18kg in weight. We decided to try the seats in the back of the car, however they can be fitted if you disable any airbags, but I just feel safer with them in the back.
The side wings which are the side impact protection on both seats were sufficient, however the Britax offered more bulk and in my eyes protection, and I was sure our daughter ...

...I knew I wanted a Britax one and the two which we narrowed it down to was the Renaissance and the Eclipse. Both were quite similar and were the 2 top ones it seemed in the Britax range.
We popped along to Mothercare and both seats fitted in our car no problem. But when it came down to it, I found the eclipse was the one I wanted! It was fairly new on the market and was getting good reports at the time.
It was quite expensive at £100 but now you ... ...it. Halfords, Mothercare, John Lewis and Kiddicare all have them and most independent baby retailers have them too. Mothercare and Halfords are usually pretty good for allowing you to try before you buy and quite often have special offers on the seats!
It is a big car seat which is quite heavy. It has a high side on either side of the seat making it comfortable and it is well padded, compared to some seats which are made by Britax. It is also very ...

Britax Eclipse
This is a great car seat for toddlers, which I would definietlty recommend without hesitation. I bought this car seat for my son when he was about 14 months old, and chose Britax because they specialise in car safety belts. It is designed for children from 9 months to 4 years, who are between 9kg and 18kg. It can recline, and also has wings in the child’s head area, to protect from side impact. Moving the car seat

My only slight gripe with this car seat is the adjustment of the straps, to move them higher as your child grows. Being slightly spoiled with the rock-a-tot deluxe baby seat, which is complete simplicity to adjust, this involves removing ...

Advantages: Cover can be washed, trusted manufacturer Disadvantages: Cover is fiddly to remove, can't be tumbled
I bought a Britax Eclipse seat for my daughter when she was about 9 1/2 months and had reached the all important weight of 9kg to move into a forward facing seat. She is still using this seat and is now 2 1/2 years old.
First important safety fact of this opinion, for this seat your child must weigh 9-18kg/20-40lb (approx. 9 months - 4 years)

...informed choice and bought the Britax Eclipse.
One of the main reasons we chose it was that it reclined easily with baby in the seat, and this was a plus as she often falls asleep en route.
It also had a good safety rating and had been recommended by baby magazines. (five out of five with mother and baby)

We have had it for 7 months, so have had to move the sraps to keep with growing baby, and certainly she finds this seat more comfortable than her stage one seat as she can stretch out more, it doesn't scrunch her up.
My husband originally fitted it and I hadn't been watching. just looking at it, it didn't look very easy to move between cars. However, with a little reassurance from a ciao ...

Advantages: life savers if fitted properly Disadvantages: can be easily not be fitted properly
This opinion, is really a general comment on the safety of fitting a baby car seat.
I work in the motor trade, and one of this things we have been taught to do is fit child saftey seats properly. When servicing cars, it is amazing how many people do not follow the guidelines set out in the user guide. In turn, this means that your child is potentially not safe.
Make sure that straps are not twisted and they are neither too loose or so tight that ... ...a fingers width between belt and baby is adequate. Remember, in an emergency you have got to be able to unstrap your child possibly upside down or in a smoke filled car.
Make sure the webbing on the straps isn't damaged or worn, this has to withstand a great deal of force if your vehicle is shunted forward. Some people wash the removable covers on the seats, and don't re-fit them properly. This may not seem a big issue, but can make the buckles ...

This car seat has been tested time and time again apparently, by road safety officers, and it has come out as being one of the safest car seats available. It is suitable for children from about 9 months old till abot 4 yrs. But really it all depends on the childs weight and wether or not they can hold their head up well. Advantages: Not too expensive, relatively safe Disadvantages: Unwieldy, cumbersome, tricky to fix
Anyone who has had kids is bound to have come across the car seat at one time or another and I think I can say with some certainty that there will be very few favourable opinions out there. They're an absolute necessity if you want to take a youngster out in the car, but all the various models out are unbelievably naff.
The straps are murder to organise, the cover inevitably comes off at the most inopportune moment, they're very unwieldy and (worst ... ...to give you the worst day you have ever experienced.
I don't think that there's any make or model which has got it right and they're all much of a muchness, a necessary evil, which, while not too expensive, will need replacing several times during your child's time.
Having said all that and vented my spleen on the naffness of the car seat, let's look at the up sides. In general, they are extremely safe and you are normally able to turn them so ...

Advantages: very comfortable for baby, safe and securely fastened. easy to change position whilst in use. Disadvantages: quite fiddly to fasten, as the clip can tend to be too rigid.
I bought a Britax eclipse babyseat for my 14 month old son, as he had grown out of his old seat.
I bought it from Mothercare, and the staff were extremely helpful. As they explained how a seat should be fitted,I was surprised to learn that not all seats fit all cars, so you have to check your vehicle's compatability with the manufacturors.
I was also shown how to check that a seat fits well, you must make sure that the base of the chair does not ... ...the straps once seat is fixed in. If the seat moves, it isn't fastened in properly.
My son appears to find his new seat extremely comfortable, especially as he promptly falls asleep as soon as we go out!!
