I decided to do a wee review on this car safety seat - the Brittax Eclipse. This seat performs fabulously well in my opinion so read on and find out just why I have so much faith in Brittax and the Eclipse in particular............ WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE AND WHAT FEATURES DOES IT HAVE ? This seat is one huge beast as far as its dimensions go !! its around 80 cm high and around 40 wide. It doesnt sound too bad on paper so to speak but trust me when you get it into your car its big !! The seat itself must have been on the red bull as it certainly has a whopping pair of wings on either side of it ... more

Advantages Advantages Reassuring safety record and a well known brand name

Disadvantages Disadvantages It isn't the cheapest out there and it may take up too much room in a smaller car

Time has gone so quickly since our second daughter was born, and last weekend, the time came to choose her 'big girls' seat. She has been using the rear facing seat that came with the Graco travel system we bought, but her feet were hanging over the edge, and once they weigh 20lbs it is advised you move to a bigger seat which is generally front facing. After some less than encouraging experiences with our local Toys R Us, we decided that Mothercare or Halfords was probably the best bet, especially as we wanted advice on which seat would be most suitable for our car, and then expert advice on ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bulky, expensive

When our daughter was little I knew that we would have to buy a forward facing car seat and that we would need to investigate which one we wanted. I knew I wanted a Britax one and the two which we narrowed it down to was the Renaissance and the Eclipse. Both were quite similar and were the 2 top ones it seemed in the Britax range. We popped along to Mothercare and both seats fitted in our car no problem. But when it came down to it, I found the eclipse was the one I wanted! It was fairly new on the market and was getting good reports at the time. It was quite expensive at £100 but now you can ... more

"An extremely practical child car seat", or so the brochure says, I agree too. My son is now 9 months old. He loves the car. He rides around amazed at all the moving scenery, the other cars on the road and he has found that riding in this forward facing seat has made car journeys much more fun. Gone are the days of rearward facing seats where the only view he had was the back of the passenger seat. Gone are the days of restrictive belts and a curled up posture. He is now riding high, sitting up just like his Mum and Dad and he can really interact with us now on trips. Why do you have to have a ... more

Britax Eclipse This is a great car seat for toddlers, which I would definietlty recommend without hesitation. I bought this car seat for my son when he was about 14 months old, and chose Britax because they specialise in car safety belts. It is designed for children from 9 months to 4 years, who are between 9kg and 18kg. It can recline, and also has wings in the child’s head area, to protect from side impact. Moving the car seat I regularly have to swap this car seat between two different cars, and it is very easy to fit, and also surprisingly light to carry. Use: My son looks well ... more

When it comes to car seats for my kids there is one company that I always use because I trust there products and think they are superb in the safety area and that is Britax. I had a Britax for my eldest son who is nearly 9 and it was fantastic I had no complaints what so ever so I knew it was a brand that I would be going back to for my second son. I am very lucky that I have a fantastic baby shop in my area that stocks every brand of baby equipment and also has a huge display range so you can have a look before you purchase. I had a car seat that was from birth but by the time he was 6 months ... more

I bought a Britax Eclipse seat for my daughter when she was about 9 1/2 months and had reached the all important weight of 9kg to move into a forward facing seat. She is still using this seat and is now 2 1/2 years old. First important safety fact of this opinion, for this seat your child must weigh 9-18kg/20-40lb (approx. 9 months - 4 years) When it comes to safety theres no messing with me I want a well known manufacturer thats tried, tested and trusted, with Britax you get that. Although the factors that influenced my buying at the time were known safety record, an ability to fit most makes ... more

I found the enormous array of car seats on offer completely daunting. It seemed that no sooner had I made the momentous decision about prams and first stage car seats that it was time for another decision that I felt rather un qualified to make! The difficulty with buying for a baby is that you can't ask them their opinion and you're not sure what you're looking for-how can there be so many? What are the main diffences? I didn't find the shop assistants particularly helpful in most shops either, but in the end found one who was really good, and we were able to make an informed choice and ... more

We bought the Eclipse 2 years ago from our local ford dealer. It was the one recommended for our Focus. Yes - It works with our car, but having transported various other children with their seats, I am very disappointed that we bought it. My son is now 2 and 9 months. It is made by the respected manufacturer Britax and is for about age 9 months to 4 years, or 20 - 40lb. On the surface, it is a good seat. If I had not used friend's seats in our car, I would probably be alot more positive about the Eclipse. Is has a couple of major failings that I think let it down badly... The harness, even ... more

Advantages Advantages life savers if fitted properly

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be easily not be fitted properly

This opinion, is really a general comment on the safety of fitting a baby car seat. I work in the motor trade, and one of this things we have been taught to do is fit child saftey seats properly. When servicing cars, it is amazing how many people do not follow the guidelines set out in the user guide. In turn, this means that your child is potentially not safe. Make sure that straps are not twisted and they are neither too loose or so tight that your babys breathing is restricted. As a general rule, a fingers width between belt and baby is adequate. Remember, in an emergency you have got to be ... more
