    Advantages Advantages Good Experience

Disadvantages Disadvantages Often Dangerous, Underpaid for half the work !

The British Army provides a real way out for many people, it gives morales and standards to many young people, who otherwise wouldnt have a chance of survival in their home environment. As an employer, it often neglects its duty of care, and the work environments can be exceptionally challenging, the day to day life often crosses the thin line of ridiculousness, and again, as an employer, the Ministry of Defence fails to protect its employees from several areas of harm that should not be found in the Army. The Recruitment process usually starts in the Recruiting Station, where a potential ... more

    Advantages Advantages social life excellent,

Disadvantages Disadvantages not good for children

This is my opinion on being a "wife of" in the British Army, for those of you who don't know this is how the army refer to you officially. This was my only problem with the British Army they see families as excess baggage. Now I know they don't really have time to worry about the families of service men when there are wars etc. going on but they could make a bit more effort to make us feel wanted after all they usually say happy wives men happy solidiers. I spent eight years as an army wife, my husband got out after the Gulf war, during this time I did not have any problems as I am quite self ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many to mention

All that glitters is not gold! One has to admit that the recruiting publicity for the British Army are some of the best adverts on the telly; they should be the bill for them runs in to the millions. My opinion of the British Army is based on 21 years service and still serving. Anyone contemplating a career would be best suited to finding out more about the job and what it offers you and more importantly expects of you from people who have experienced it rather than rely on the glitz of the TV ads and posters. First of all the good stuff: Skills: The Army can provide you with opportunities ... more

Advantages Advantages Army provides skills and job security, housing, training, chance of travel ...

Disadvantages Disadvantages ...but you might get killed in some place for the privilege.

Today's young adults are not like their counterparts forty, thirty or even twenty years ago. They do not like to be bossed about all the time, and obviously this is a part of the Army's very being. I think our culture has been part of the problem here, because we have bowed away from discipline over recent years, and unfortunately you are not going to find anyone who has been undisciplined, suddenly opting for it. This creates a problem in recruiting for any of the military forces, let alone the Army which has always been the most put upon, and least glamourous. The new ads are hoping to boost ... more

    Advantages Advantages travel,future training,security

Disadvantages Disadvantages no definate life planning

Having served in the Royal Corps of Signals for over 15 years I have seen massive changes in both the soldiers and the technology that they use. When I first joined the discipline was far harsher than it is now, you would not say anything unless spoken to, and then it still might get you into trouble! Nowadays the recruit is far more questioning, which can be a good thing, as long as when the time comes they know when to stop the questions and just do the do! We have a lower level of fitness now as well but this is probably due to the computer generation that is now emerging, the days of ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic opportunities, meet new people, security.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No family or girls.

I am due to go into the AGC in March as a Military Policeman, and I feel that I know enough about the forces to comment to a certain extent. Opportunities. The opportunities that the Army offer are simply amazing. For starters, there is the opportunity to see the world for free. You can be placed in many exciting locations, most commonly Cyprus and Germany. You also get to meet new people and try out things that you would have had to pay a lot of cash for in civvy street. Long term. You are guaranteed to have job security once you completed both phase 1 and phase 2 training. If you complete 22 ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent travel, adventure training

Disadvantages Disadvantages Miss family and friends

A career in the British Army ?, One has to think what do you want out of life if you happy with a 9 - 5 job with the family and friends that you have grown up with, then I would not recommend it for you, If you are looking for that something else, that bit of adventure, the advantage of trying out new things in new countrys, top notch, adventure training in the kind of places that you have not ever dreamed of, then I would highly recommend it to you, but it do's not suit everybody people tend to know themselves if they have got it in them. As in life you have to take the rough with the smooth ... more

Advantages Advantages See the world & get paid

Disadvantages Disadvantages Life insurance goes up.

After 10 years of service i finally left. I'd had a lot of good times as well as quite a few bad ones. The thing I remember of the army is being cold, wet, hungry and fed up. No-one knew what was going on most of the time and your stuck in the middle of Germany, the most boring place on earth. Iraq was an experience as was bosnia and ireland. Lost a lot of good mates, was trained to be aggressive then nicked for being aggressive, got shot at, felt raw fear but got an ice-cream at the end of it. Anyone thinking of joining? It's not an easy life and i was very lucky to come out of it with my ... more

Advantages Advantages Wages, Accomodation, Country's to live in

    Disadvantages Disadvantages War,

The British Army. Be the BEST! My husband has been in the British Army for 6 year's now. He is in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineer's (REME). Currently he is doing a HND. My husband has been to Iraq ad could of lost his life serving the Queen and Country. Anyway the British Army, do pay the soldiers 24/7, 365 days a year, regardless if working or on leave. It is a secure wage guaranteed every month. The new soldier's who would of just joined up, the Private's, will be paid either weekly or monthly and not a substantial amount either, it will be enough money for them to buy there ... more
