    Ciao Review dated - 31-03-09 Utility - BRITISH GAS Titled: Born Gassy ---------------------------- In the news today British Gas has re-named their corporation 'Born Gassy'; it has been long awaited brands re-think, from it's gassy fat cats. The whole matter has brought a bad smell to the shareholders as they feel it would have terrible implications to the BG share-price.     Advantages Advantages None that I can think of...oh..they have the word "British" in their name

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Customer Service (lack of), Prices, Attitude...oh everything really

    The name "British Gas" always had that comfortable ,solid feel to it. To me it always invoked a sense of something reliable, but probably expensive. Quality service that wouldn't let you down. A company you could trust. Ok, probably a bit pricey, but you knew they'd come up trumps for you. In a way, something akin to the AA (the so called "4th Emergency Service). Best engineers, best service, best of British.. and all that. Hey, I can already hear you sniggering ….     Disadvantages Disadvantages Pensioners using half their pensions on utilties

    Make no mistake guys a combination of the energy companies blatant profiteering and New Labor obsession with fleecing us with these divisive and erroneous green taxes is the reason why we are being ripped off over energy prices. Man Made global warming is feasible but it's not going to be repelled by charging customers high tariffs on gas and power which they have no choice but to use in winter. Petrol tax can be avoided by taking fewer needless journeys, fair enough, but pensioners need to keep warm, yet they are the ones being targeted with these increases, regardless of their winter fuel ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Everything, especially their call centre and customer service staff.

    This may be quite long, complicated and involved but my experience may be worth reading, it could save you a lot of money and much heartache. Despite being one of the biggest British companies, I have found British Gas (hereafter called BG) to be the most despicable companies I have ever had dealings with. I no longer use them and after direct dealings with BG I insist my meters are all card meters to prevent getting unwanted bills. Here is why.     (I have added an update to the bottom of this review as of 09/06/2007) It was a normal Tuesday morning and I was just preparing my breakfast when slam, The post drops to the floor through my letter box.     This is to warning all British Gas customers concerning the misfortunes which may befall them should they be so unfortunate as to have their meter changed, especially if this happens, as it did to me , without their knowledge! If you can’t be bothered to read the full version of events – skip to the abridgement in the final paragraph!     Disadvantages Disadvantages Price hikes, deparments don't talk to each other

    UPDATE 28.11.08 When I wrote the review below, prices had gone up by 50% since January 2008, with British Gas agents profusely blaming rise in oil prices for rises in both Gas and Electricity. Fair point? By July oil was at a record $147 a barrel at its peak. Since then oil has collapsed to a 2 year low of $52 a barrel and still falling, I spoke to British Gas about this -- they say that gas is already in the system paid for at the old prices! On Radio 4's Today program, they continued along this line when pressed about price rising the moment oil goes up, but stubbornly high when oil comes ... more

The engineer who came who came was from Britsh Gas and he told me about how I could cover all my kitchen appliances with one monthly payment. Back then it was £10 a month for three appliances. Within the first year of taking out this policy my Dishwasher and Dryer both became unrepairable due to parts not being available and British gas gave me vouchers ... more

    I bought my first house in May 2007. I had heard lots of nightmare stories from friends about incorrect bills due to companies using the wrong meter readings, and I knew that the house I was buying had been unoccupied for some time so I wanted to get it right. So on the day I got the keys, I went out of my way to discover the gas and electric supplier. When I realised it was British Gas I contacted them immediately.     British Gas I felt I had to write this review after having to deal with this company for the first time and being pretty disappointed. Having moved into a new flat and coming from a flat where all the bills were included in the rent meaning never having to deal with all these companies and now having to set up all the new accounts for things such as electricity, gas and water I found this company particularly tiresome to deal with.
