So you think any old Moggy will do?

Advantages: A superior Moggy that's usually affectionate, intelligent and communicative
Disadvantages: The price tag!

~~~BRITISH SHORTHAIRS~~~ British Shorthairs all come from the same genetic pool (if bred properly) but come out in all shades and colours with a variety of markings. They have a certain cuddly shape and strong build as well as specific characteristics that set them apart from other breeds despite their array of colourings. Basically, what we're talking about here is a refined and well-bred moggy. You get all the convenience of a self-sufficient ...
...you should seriously consider the British Shorthair as your first choice. MADDY: BLACK SMOKE BRITISH SHORTHAIR Maddy is my beautiful black baby who's always up for a game or a cuddle. I bought him together with Baby Gingerbread and Quindolin Mary (will explain the name in a bit) as kittens from a certified breeder nearly three years ago now. Maddy was the cheapest of the lot at £200 though I objected to that price having noticed the white "tip-ex" ...
A Bear of a Cat
Advantages: Gorgeous, cuddly, loving, loyal, good temperament
Disadvantages: none
...well looked after kitten. The British Short Hair (BSH) is the cat used in Sheba commercials (a blue) and also in Whiskas commercials (a silver tabby), I have always thought it was a beautiful looking cat and after a little reading up it seemed this breed could have the temperament we wanted as well. We had no interest in either showing or breeding from our cat we just wanted a pet. We later found a lot of breeders will stipulate that the cat should ...
...===About the breed=== British Shorthairs come in many different colours, although the one most commonly associated with the breed is the blue, which is a kind of dark grey but with a definite bluish tint. Other self (solid) colours include cream, lilac, red, chocolate, black and white. There are also bi-colours which do not have any particular markings but are as the name suggests, a mixture. Then there are colour points, which are mainly white ...
Cats Eyes
Advantages: Cute, cuddly and friendly
Disadvantages: The infernal litter tray
...acquired Digby a small cute British Cream Shorthair kitten and as we paid half each that meant hubby got the pooy end and I got the head, fair deal I think – that was 12 years ago, now he’s a fully grown, very opinionated cat. British Cream Shorthairs are a very beautiful breed; they originally appeared by accident in litters of tortoiseshell cats in the late nineteenth century. I must admit this information completely flummoxes me as there is nothing ...
...There are other forms of British Shorthair, the others similar to ours being Black and Blue both of which also appeared around the end of the 19th Century. The more modern bi-colours blue/white, cream/white (very pretty cats) and Blue/cream all appeared around the 50’s. On the whole the temperaments are pretty similar, although I have had friends who have had Blues and they have been quite viscous. Then you get all the tabbies, tortoiseshells, reds, ...
A real chocolate box kitten
Advantages: Excellent temperament, strong and healthy, very loving, don't need much grooming
Disadvantages: None
...or so, we felt that British Shorthairs seemed to be the best breed for us. However, we had never actually seen one, so we decided to go to a local cat show. We looked at all the breeds of cat that were there (about 10 in total), but were still keen on the British Shorthair. We began talking to the exhibitors at the show and asked various questions about British Shorthairs, but also asked for recommendations of good breeders. When purchasing a pedigree ...
...breeder and new owner. Any good breeder will ask the new owner questions about their personal circumstances and lifestyle and any genuine prospective owner will ask all the necessary questions about the kittens and their background as well as the environment in which they are bred. We began talking to breeders at the show and soon realised from answers they were giving to our questions that choosing the right breeder would be harder than we initially ...
Is it a cat or a teddy bear
Advantages: A lovable friend
Disadvantages: Some dont like being picked up
...me tell you about the British Shorthair cat. They almost appear to be a cross between a teddy bear and a cat, rounded and cuddly. There are also one of the best hunting breeds around. British shorthairs won early shows in Britian in the 1890`s before the popularity of the longhaired cats, like the Maine Coons and Persians. The head is large and round, with full cheeks and a broad nose. With small ears and large eyes. The body is strong and low ...
...COLOURS There is the british blue, black red, cream and white.The tabby is very popular and can be distinguished by the m shaped frown marks on the forehead. Very few cats are more striking than the silver tabby (dense black markings on a silver background). Tortoiseshells and the bi-colour tortie and white are common only on females as the tortoiseshell pattern is linked to gender. There is also colours of tipped, smoke and bicolours. Did you ...
The Bagpuss of Cats
Advantages: Great Companions
Disadvantages: None
...and tortoiseshell . ==Temperament== British Shorthairs are an easygoing breed. They do say that this bred isn't very vocal, but my cat (female) contradicts this and is always 'talking to me' as she follows me around the house. I guess with any breed they all have their own individuality. British Shorthairs are wonderful cats for people who work, as they are very happy just to laze around the house while you are out. Some british shorthairs don't ...
...Most breeders/owners of the british shorthair tend to keep them as indoor cats, although I know people who do let them roam, but they are so cute I also know cats that have been stolen if they are allowed to roam freely. At the moment you can expect to pay £300 - £350 for a shorthair kitten, but have a look around every now and then breeders do look to find new homes for their older cats when their breeding/stud days are over. ...
The Teddy Bear of cats
Advantages: Not alot of grooming needed
Disadvantages: Can be persistent at time
...fell in love with the British Shorthair about 8 years ago when I bought one for my mum. She was a little blue girl called Misty and you could say she sparked my/our love for the breed. Since then we have added 4 more to our feline family all different colours and purrrrsonalities. Misty - is an 8 year old blue (well it is more a blue/grey) who has developed a passion for the cold water tap over the years. She is a very large cat who developed into ...
...in general. The British Shorthair tends to be a large stocky cat (the males are larger than the females) with a short thick coat. They can come in a great range of colours & patterns a few of them are as follows: Blue Black Cream Spottie or Tabby Smoke BI-colour There are alot more different colours and patterns out there and I would definitely recommend doing a search to see what other colours there are. The eye colour also varies but most ...
Best of British
Advantages: Funny, loving, real characters
Disadvantages: Drama Queens
British shorthairs (BSH) are really just posh moggies!! They have a short dense coat wich is easily maintained. I grrom mine weekly just to keep them looking there best and they love it. One bit of advise on this though, start them young, as soon as you get your kitten home make this part of their routine and you will find they will get used to it very quickly and this saves a lot of problems when they get bigger and more strong willed. If you dont ...
...mats during their biannual moult. They have excellent natures but they dont suffer fools. They wil soon let you know if they have had enough. They are often not lap cats but still like to sit beside you and grace you with their presence when they feel like it. BSH's come in just about every colour you can imagine, I have a Black, silver spotted Boy (Dreamthorp Silver Shadow, tigger) and a Black tipped girl (Dreamthorp Silver Cloud, Chloe). but colours ...
...recommend that you get a British shorthaired? Yes, I would, provided you have the money, time and emotional effort that these cats require. They can make very loyal, loving pets but they can be expensive and they crave your company. They are not however the breed to choose if you want a cat that will come and sit on your lap when you want. The British shorthair is an affectionate cat but it will be on their terms, not yours! ...
British Shorthair
Advantages: Cute and Cuddly
Disadvantages: Potty training (see paragraph 4)
Introduction British Shorthairs are beautiful cats (in my opinion the most beautiful in the world). They do not lose as much hair as many longhaired cats (well, lets face it, there's hardly any too lose). I really hope this review influences your decision to buy a cat. BSH Silver Tab
Advantages: Hours of entertainment
Disadvantages: Can drive you nuts!
We got our Silver tab BSH 18 months ago from an RSPCA rescue centre, she's around 9-10 years old . I don't really know what she was doing there as she is a stunning looking cat, a real show stopper. Even stranger is that she's actually been back to the RSPCA TWICE! And on her report sheet there was a whole load of "issues" that the cat had! But apart from being a bit of a loony she's been pretty good. They really are lovely to look at and crave ...
...(never shuts up) and will quite often sit there talking to herself. As someone else has said they can tend to be drama queens. Ours quite often tries it on with a false limp! There's nothing wrong with her but she'll sit there with a paw in the air, limp away a few steps and then be back to normal! Other things it'll get up to include, following me EVERYWHERE around the house, I go upstairs she follows, I go down stairs she's there, I go to the toilet ...
Disadvantages: Dogs and Cats don't normally get along
...with your decision. Introduction British Shorthairs are friendly cats and (as the name implies) they originate from Britain. Our little pets don't look like much but their relatives, the BIG cats (lions, tigers etc.) aren't so friendly! Depending on your cats health, it may be prescribed special food. Cats drink different things too. Water and Milk are what they drink mainly. My cat loved to drink my left over tea when it got cold but since he died a lot of tea has got wasted. Playing Cats love playing. I still have the toys I ...
