Leave A Message After Beep And I Wont Get Back 2 U

AdvantagesA good idea!

DisadvantagesNone

"...voicemail. Instead of “Hello this is BT Call-minder, the person you’ve called is not available at the moment. Please leave a message after the tone.” You can change it to you saying whatever you want. But, if you’re shy, you can leave it well alone if you wish, and leave the well-spoken woman t greet your friends! Secondly you can change a lot of features that the payable 1571 has. You can change the amount of rings it ..." Read review

Home of the future Part XIV

AdvantagesFree, works

DisadvantagesNone, I'm afraid

"BT - bloody awful in terms of reputation, customer service, responsiveness and attention to detail. However, in terms of product offering, technology and ideas, I'm so bloody annoyed to say, BT actually have quite a lot going for them in terms of their goal of being a global, technological communications solution provider. If only they could possibly get their practical act together and actually realise their vision in any sort of reasonable way, ..." Read review

Interferring little blighter

AdvantagesTakes calls while you are on the internet

DisadvantagesGets on your T*ts

"Oh boy, do I hate change! My beloved answerphone has been spurned and cast out by my flatmates! They never got the hang of how to play a message and tripped over the little thing every time they needed to reach the video cabinet. It's days were numbered - then erased. In an attempt to de-clutter the living room and create a state of harmonius message retrieval, my little baby was replaced with BT's free 1571 deal. At no cost to ourselves, ..." Read review

Your call cannot be taken at present...

AdvantagesIts a free service

DisadvantagesNone

"...the answer to that. But BT have taken the sting out of paying £20 for an answerphone from a shop like Argos by providing an answerphone on your home phone line for free! Thats right, free! Its the new 1571 service. you have probably seen the adverts on TV for it. Basically, when you can't get to the phone, an answerphone message answers your call and takes a message for you. It takes 7 rings to do this so you have plenty of time ..." Read review

Sorry we're not in right now...

AdvantagesFree, easy to use, no 'physical' machine.

DisadvantagesNeed to have a BT phone line, not your own voice.

"BT Answer 1571 is a free alternative to buying an answer machine for your home. Firstly, I must add, you have to have a BT line, so NTL users and alike - sorry this is not for you!! Basically the service is done entirely through your phone line and so you don't need to find a space for an answer machine near your phone. To actually get the service you have to ring 1571 and follow the simple instructions to install. It usually takes a couple ..." Read review

FREE

AdvantagesFree for me

DisadvantagesNot free to the person calling

"...prior to moving over to BT we were paying for it, as it was classed as line rental plus, which worked out to be around a pound extra per month, for a few more services than you would normally get, for example call waiting, call reminder (my ex alarm clock) and so on. I found that the options to customise were very limited as far as how many rings before the answer service would kick in, not only that but it interfered with our call waiting service. ..." Nothing in life is free

AdvantagesA free service

DisadvantagesOnly stores 10 messages

"...on adverts. In this respect BT are no different. All we need to do is understand is the reasons behind the service/product then we can feel safe in the knowledge of what is on offer and more importantly why. So I will explain what 1571 is, then at the end of this review I will add what BT get out of it. A few years ago BT introduced a service called 1571, if memory serves me right the cost was about £4.99 a month. For this you got what amounts ..." Read review

It's not free for the caller

Advantagesfree for user

Disadvantagesnot so free when you phone someone with the service

"...only "free" for the subscriber. BT have to make their money somehow I suppose, and this is how they do it. You can subscribe to BT 1571 answer service for free, by calling 0800 003 800 from a BT landline, or subscribe online at www.BT.com. The service allows your phone to take messages whilst you are out, and also otherwise engaged. (If you're anything like me I spend my life on the net). Upon phoning Joe Bloggs, only to find he is out, ..." Read review

Is this thing on

AdvantagesIt's very handy

DisadvantagesCosts the caller

"...somebody MIGHT be ringing. In theorie, BT have come up with a very good service for there customers. In the services infantile stage it was not so reliable, and many customers were unsure whether it would be a success or failure! However, a year on, and the 1571 service is still running, and damn good it is too! ************************************* ADVANTAGES You can carry on talking/surfing for hours without worrying that somebody is ..." The Curse of BT1571

AdvantagesOK if you don't mind BT conning you out of your hard earned cash.

DisadvantagesTotally inflexible, you have no control over its operation, you cant turn it off.

"...have to call them back.. BT wins both ways!! If you want it removed you have to contact BT and ask them, but you didn't ask for it in the first place! Its so much better if the caller gets an engaged tone instead of being robbed yet again by BT's unscrupulous hidden con of providing you with this 'FREE' service. My advise ring them, complain STRONGLY that you didn't want it in the first place. And get it turned off. …. End of rant! ..." Read review

never miss another call with 1571

Advantagesfree easy to use

Disadvantagescant save message indefinately

"1571 from bt is a free answering service meaning you dont ever have to miss a call again, can only be used if you have a bt line though so if you are with ntl or someone else then this sewrvice will not work for you, it will work however if your line is rented from bt but your calls are provided by someone else. i used to be with toucan and 1571 still worked for me coz i still rented the line from bt. the answer facility will kick in after 7 ..." Welcome to BTanswer 1571

AdvantagesEasy to install, Free for subscriber

DisadvantagesCaller must pay, no notification to subscriber that they have a message.

"...a computer he would ring BT and ask them! It's one thing speaking to an answerphone but it's another being charged for it. BT should put an advertisement to make their money. I don't mind but it is outrageously priced. ..." Read review

1571 Text alert useless for some users

AdvantagesFree

DisadvantagesBut useless for some

"A problem with the 1571 Text Alerts system that BT's website fails to point out at this date (7/6/07) is that if you have retained your mobile phone number and transfered it from another provider to either Virgin or T-mobile, the text alert sytem will simply not work. In other words, you may have messages on your landline, but you will not be texted to inform you of the fact. BT confirmed this to me today. So if you have ported your number ..." Read review
