After receiving my insurance renewal last month and discovering my premium had increased from £465 to £585 despite gaining another years no claim bonus (my 3rd), I was not very happy and spent a Saturday morning on the web and/or phone getting quotes. Whilst doing so, I tried searching the web for advice and stumbled across this site. I was with Budget for 6months, and the main reason why I went with them was I did not have the chance to phone around and get a better quote. I had just purchased a car of which I was due to collect the next day, so I needed insurance fast. I was a new driver (of 21yrs at the time) with an old car ('E' reg Metro) so I was charged around £700apr. I accepted that £700 was the average amount I would be charged for 'Third Party, Fire & Theft' insurance. having my renewal fast approaching applied to budget online (through money supermarket)and they gave me the cheapest quote by £40 with a £100 excess fee. cheapest excess for windscreens and audion equipment. the service i received was great, allowed the option of monthly direct debits over 10 months and to be taken out a different account from my credit card account. Documents were sent the next day from me signing up with them which was good seen as how i had to produce my documents at the police station within 7 days of me getting the policy. i has called there centre and they were very ... more

Smart people DONOT budget. Be prepared to do all the work yourself, they dont fill in forms, they dont call you back and they couldnt find your policy if they were holding it in front of their face. My car was stolen, but wont have a hire car as my "stolen" car wasnt being repaired in the garage (eh) customer service speak very poor english and be prepared for a huge phone bill, i've got 6 different numbers and none of them recognise the claim number they gave me, have been on hold for half of my claim and hung up on whilst waiting. This is a warning about Budget Insurance www.budgetinsurance.com I took out some fully comprehensive insurance a year ago due to them being competitive and having friendly staff. My girlfriend had an accident this year and to Budget's credit they sorted everything out relatively easily, the car was written off and they paid up quite quickly (at least their underwriters did anyway) but the car was only £300 so it wasn't like it broke the bank or anything, so far so good. I had all my insurances with Budget basically based on price and how helpful they were on the phone. Howvever as each policy comes up for renewal I am changing. Reason? I renewed my car insurance in September but 3 weeks later the car failed its MoT and as it was too expensive to repair I decided to scrap it. I rang to tell them and they said there would be a surcharge of £55, I had had the policy for THREE weeks. Their terms and conditions say they will charge a percentage, to me it represented 50%. I have had dealings with many insurance companies over the years and I have only ever had a problem with one other Insurance company (Bennetts Motorcycle see below) . In 2007 I choose Budget due to the low price, oh dear that was a bad decision. Budget Insurance is the worst Insurance company I have ever had any dealings with. When you telephone (call centre in South Africa) the staff are rude and have little knowledge and claim it is not there department that is responsible and tell you to phone another PAY number. Don't let their name fool you, budget insurances shouldn't be taken up by anyone who has to live on a budget! Having bought a car from Days motor park Swansea, I then had to have fully comp before I could have finance. I phoned budget and was quoted a massive £2000 and that was on my father's name with over 30 years no claims bonus!! - God knows how much it would have cost me on my own name as I'm a young learner driver.
