    Cable and Wireless took over from my old cable company Videotron who offered one of the best services anywhere, free cable to cable phone calls at off peak hours which included internet access, other phonecalls cheaper and a good cable TV package. I never had any problems with the old company at all, but with C & W it has been a nightmare. The first thing they did was to write to everyone with their new packages of TV channels and new rates on phone calls and asked you to sign up for one of them saying that their rates would be cheaper.     Now that NTL has bought out Cable and Wireless what is going to happen to the existing internet services, We have all heard and read the stories on the news and in the local/national press about people still waiting for months (me been in this catergory)for their CD's for the Internet Connection Package that NTL are currently and supposedly Offering by advertising on Television , just what has NTL done with the customer service side of the business, where has it gone , is it going to reappear or totally disappear........     We had a nice young man arrive on our doorstep to sell us this marvellous service for no fee and if we had the basic tv set up as well we would get the phone line rental free too. Seemed to good to be true and it was. The box was duly installed and sat there for 4 weeks unusable because they had not bothered to set it up right and the picture was constantly blocking and freezing as they call it!! After serveral increasing irate phone calls from us this problem was eventually addressed for us only to receive the first bill asking us for a huge payment for the installation of the set top box ... more

    To be truthful my experience with Cable and Wireless was over a year ago. But even though it is now NTL the same staff will be sat sitting in their Customer Centres. My problem started when I added Cable and wirless TV package to their telephone service, it seemed to make sense at the time. About two months later, I received my Bank Statement, Cable and Wireless had taken,via direct debit, £70.95........ it should have been £21.00. I was not pleased to say the least.     Well then C&W thought you could take us on did you? Well you got it a bit wrong didn't you!! Some time ago now I recived my C&W bill nothing abnormal only when I ran through the call costs I realized that I had been re-charged for the last months service and calls, so I rang the help desk (which incidentaly is hopeless) and I was told that the problem would be rectified, all I had to do was wait untill the reminded arived and that would have the amended bill on it, did it ever!     Cable & Wireless has now been taken over by NTL. However, the prices are still the same and free internet is not available yet. This is frankly unacceptable as I would have no problem getting free internet with a BT line. I joined C&W four years ago when it was Videotron. One of the advantages of cable phones is that installation is cheap or free as long as you are in a cabled area, whereas a BT line would set you back around £100. The service has been reliable. Although it is slightly cheaper than BT it is possible to get even cheaper rates by going through another telecom provider. ... more

    than BT, by quite a long way. For two years I was with Cable, simply because when I moved in it was the only system installed, and now I've moved again and am back with BT for the same reason. Admittedly, Cable pull off a bit of sleight of hand by sending you bills monthly rather than quarterly, so when you're only paying £15 or so a month it can look like a lot less than £45 a quarter, even though of course it isn't. But the thing I have never been able to understand about BT is the sheer number of things they manage to charge for. With cable, I paid for line rental and calls. End of story ... more

    C&W's totally callous approach to the disabled needs to be made public. I help to look after a disabled man who is largely housebound and therefore relies on his phone as his only contact with the oustide world - including for medical emergencies. All his banking etc is done on-line - in other words he's totally dependent on his phone. To keep a long story short, his payment bounced (not his fault) and C&W cut him off - without warning. They did indeed send a letter saying he'd been cut off - but they sent it on the same day as the disconnection - doh! Anyway he was able to ring them (their's ... more

    Who knows what dank corner of Hades they were spawned in? These people are good at one thing only, taking your money. Oh the number of times we would spend 45mins to an hour hanging on for customer service. Even the installation was poorly done, plastic box left off. These people sold their residential business to ntl, who certainly could not be any worse. I pity the poor residential user who had to suffer as we did with these staples of the consumer complaints columns and shows. Good riddance to them.     I moved to a new property at the end of June, only Cable and Wireless had lines into the house, therefore I had little choice in which company to use. BT inspected the property (within 2 days of calling)but would have had to dig the drive up. It took three weeks to connect a phone and TV service, yet it took 2 days for them to barge into my home to disconnect the previous occupants service and reclaim their hardware, without any prior notification to me. When they did connect me I had radio interference on the telephone line, in the next ten days I had 8 engineers call round to try to resolve ... more
