Classy Cadbury Bournville Review with images

AdvantagesMild dark chocolate taste

DisadvantagesLike all chocolate - sugar

"A review on Cadbury Bournville Now, dark chocolate is not a choice I often make but today I felt like a change. So, despite the rain, I set off to buy a _Cadbury Bournville_ - my favourite variety. The small _One Stop Shop_ near where I work didn't have any so I had to make my way to a small shop a bit further away. I didn't mind too much because that used up a few more calories. However, I suspect that the price was a bit higher than the supermarket ..." Read review

THE DARKER SIDE OF SATISFACTION

AdvantagesSUITABLE FOR COOKING WITH

DisadvantagesIT HAS AN AQUIRED TASTE

"...chocolate chunks has the word Cadbury written across it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TASTE AND APPEARANCE. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This chocolate is an acquired taste, it is a bitter chocolate, which to me, and other lovers of dark chocolate is perfect. It is smooth, silky, and no nasty after taste, I like it with a nice cup of coffee; it has a lovely crisp snap as you snap a piece off, although, this chocolate is not to be eaten in a hurry, you should take your ..." Pass Me The Laxative Please

AdvantagesRich, dark, velvety, slightly bitter tasting chocolate. Totally delicious.

DisadvantagesIt can be an acquired taste, and not to everyone's liking.

"~ ~ When I was a wee fella growing up in Scotland in the 50’s and 60’s there wasn’t nearly as much choice of choccy bars and sweeties as there is today. I can remember that my favourite chocolate bars back then were Mars Bars, Picnic, and Fry’s Chocolate Cream. (and orange) My old dad’s favourite was Cadbury’s Bournville, a plain, dark chocolate, that I was convinced he used to eat because he knew my mum and I ..." Read review

Dark Desires

AdvantagesTaste lasts longer

DisadvantagesIs more bitter than milk choccy

"Well it just wouldn’t be fair to write so many ops about chocolate and not mention plain chocolate as I have written about and will continue to write about milk chocolate and besides it looks as though this op will keep Newfloridian happy as he keeps mentioning that he prefers plain chocolate instead of milk chocolate in his comments to my ops … not that he was hinting of course !! Also I may be able to convert a few more dieters with this op !! =[ ..." Read review

"...for its connections with the Cadbury family and chocolate. This is where the Cadbury Bournville bar was named after. Cadbury Bournville is a bar of delicious plain dark chocolate, which has become popular for its excellent taste and added health benefits. You can eat this straight away or you can use it in cooking recipes. Bournville comes in a distinctive red wrapper with gold writing. On the front of the packet it states that it’s a classic dark ..." Read review

I've been to 'Bournville' and back....

AdvantagesCheap enough to buy, isn't awful

DisadvantagesMisses something though I still haven't put my finger on what!

"...it telling me it is Cadbury Bourniville, Classic Dark Chocolate and under that the size is stated. On the back ingredients are listed, allergy advice and nutritional information is given, contact details are given for Cadbury, I'm told it is suitable for vegetarians, a bit of information about the product is given, and the best before date is stamped on. Very nice packaging and definitely aimed at adults as it is quite elegant and sophisticated looking ..." Read review

Chocolate orange that isn't Terry's for once

AdvantagesRich and chocolately

DisadvantagesBars a little too big

"...spotted a new variety of Cadbury chocolate in my local Co-op recently, a bar of dark Bournville chocolate with orange. The fact it was a largeish size didn't put me off buying one, after all there was no way on Earth I wouldn't enjoy this. The chocolate is sold in bars of 180gm, the packaging is a bright orange in colour to stand out on the supermarket/sweet shop shelves and also features the classic red Bournville logo on the front. I thought ..." Read review

For when the mood is dark...

AdvantagesTastes devine, my favourite...

Disadvantages*gulp* 500 calories

"...it was born - the Cadbury factory in Bournville - and carries her maj's seal of approval on every bar. Because I'm a pig I'm sitting munching on the larger 100g bar which cost £1.09p from cheeky Londis but you can also get a smaller bar for around 40p. Because I've opted for the 'make yourself sick with chocolate' size it comes in a classy looking gold foil with a sophisticated red paper cover over it. Everything about this bar screams class, down ..." Read review

Bourn to be mild

AdvantagesPleasantly mild, smoky taste, quite cheap and easily available, vegetarian

DisadvantagesPoor packaging redesign, doesn't fit well with many other foods

"...sitting! As you'd expect from a Cadbury product, the Bournville bar has a smooth texture and feels rather sugary, without the bitterness common to much dark chocolate. Despite the presence of the butterfat, it does taste surprisingly similar to a Dairy Milk without the milk; it has a pleasant and distinctive, almost smoky, aftertaste that lingers for quite some while. This does mean that it's not always the best bar to eat with food, although it ..." Read review

The taste of real chocolate

Advantagesversatile, delicious, suitable for vegans, plenty of nutrients, and it's chocolate!

Disadvantagesa little pricey, lots of calories and fat

"...after the village that the Cadbury brothers created with a pseudo-French name back in the late 19th century, and which is now home to the Cadbury chocolate factory and Cadbury World visitor centre. * Ingredients * Bournville chocolate consists simply of sugar, cocoa in two forms, vegetable fat, and soya as emulsifier; this means that, unlike milk chocolate, it's fine for vegans and for anyone who is lactose-intolerant. On the other hand, ..." Read review

Grown-up naughtiness Review with images

Advantages Non addictive ( for me anyway) , rich but not sickly , good value

Disadvantages Not to everyones taste

"...plain chocolate . Apparently pre 1875 Cadbury only made plain or dark chocolate . When the first milk chocolate was produced by them it was a dry and coarse product as it was made with milk powder . Further info is available at www.cadbury.co.uk .This site is well laid out and even has resource pack order forms available to download for key stage 1 - 4 children and their teachers . I thought it was quite an interesting site . PACKAGING * * * ..." Read review

Comsumed by the dark side Review with images

Advantagespleasamt chocolate taste

Disadvantageshard to brek into pieces

"My grandfather was a true Scotsman. He took salt with his porridge, hated spending money and had the sort of sweet tooth that keeps denture manufacturers in business. Indeed he was never far from something sweet. I remember that he consumed two things in particular. They were Fox's Glacier Mints and Bournville Chocolate. Even now I can still picture the gold foil and red paper of the big Bournville bar sitting next to the huge glass jar of mints The ..." Read review

Devil Cocoa

AdvantagesStrong and dark

DisadvantagesToo much will make you sick

"The Dark Red wrapper with gold writing emblazoned Bourneville lies seductively on the coffee table. The temptation to enter it's secret lair has me shivering with anticipation. I know it's secrets I have visited it on many ocassions I also know I have to resist the Devil Cocoa Bar for once entered it cannot be easily escaped. The rich cocoa taste that bares only a hint of sweetness, would not normally be on my consumption list. But as I said I ..." Read review

The Classiest of Chocolate....

AdvantagesVery sophisticated, not too sickly

DisadvantagesExpensive compared to milk chocolate

"I have always been a fan of dark chocolate and have not yet found anything to beat Cadburys Bournville. I like most chocolate but milk can be a little sickly and white is simply awful because it just tastes like solidified sugar. Bournville on the other hand has a bitter-sweet quality about it that leaves me feeling contented without having to eat more than a small amount. Cadburys have obviously realised what image the chocolate has because ..." Read review
