Advantages Advantages Easy to set up. Very flexible. Competitive APR

Disadvantages Disadvantages Wouldn't let me have the full amount requested

The first section of this opinion relates to a personal loan that I arranged some months ago through Cahoot.com. The second section relates to the Cahoot Visa Card. 1. THE LOAN Anyone having an idle look through my opinions may notice that I seem to be in the market for a new car, possibly an import. Unlike going to a UK dealer, who may have all kinds of finance packages, ranging from interest-free credit (on cars they want to shift!) to more normal HP arrangements and “balloon payment” schemes, importers are going to want MONEY. This leaves most people with two choices, save up for it, or ... more

Advantages Advantages Flexible repayment, can borrow more (up to your agreed limit) at any time.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't pay lump sums online

I choose Cahoot's flexible loan because of the advertised rate of 8% APR and flexible repayment options. It is unsecured, the interest is calculated daily and there are no early repayment penalties. Setting Up ---------- Applying online is easy, you need a secure connection, you fill in your personal details, income, bank account details, etc and how much you wish to borrow. They then tell you if you have been accepted or not. The application takes about half an hour. A credit agreement gets sent to you in the post and you have to read and sign it and send it back along with proof of your ... more

Advantages Advantages I was accepted where I have been refused elsewhere.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None yet really!

I have a graduate account with barclays with a lot of debt (£3000 overdraft and £3000 personal loan) and was finding the repayments on my loan quite high, so I approached barclays with the intention of consolidating loan, overdraft and £1000 credit card with another loan with lower repayments. I am employed and have been with barclays for 7 years. Seems reasonable? Well, see my other opinion (which I will write next) about my fiasco with Barclays. No really, you would not believe it! Anyway, fuming about Barclays, I went searching for another loan provider, planning to consolidate and leave ... more

Advantages Advantages Lowest APR on the market at current

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can only be applied for online

This was my first ever loan application, and although I thought I would be baffled by all the legal jargon I found the cahoots loan very easy to understand! I took a fixed rate loan for £1000 at only 5.9%, I am borrowing it over a period of 12 months and only have to pay them a total of around £30 interest! APPLYING FOR THE LOAN One huge problem for some people here-it can only be done online, for me though this is a huge benefit as it means no hassle trips to banks and talking to bank managers, no lengthy forms-pretty much everything is online which I think is fantastic. The actual ... more

Advantages Advantages Great new approach to online personal loan application process

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Yet to find.

I was trying to get a loan for about xxxxx amount in June this year to clear of some debts and use the rest of the money for other things. But, I was keen on low APR. I was not interested in just any loan as it was not desperate situation. The particular reason for applying for loan was I did expect Bank of England interest rate to go up as American interest rate gone up several times by that time (Honest). Don't ask me when it will go up next. That was my guess for the short term. Because of recent house purchase, and other debts, I was not successful in many applications. My favourite and ... more

Advantages Advantages Great APR, plus a loan where YOU are in control

Disadvantages Disadvantages I'm still waiting to find the catch!!!

If you're in the market for an unsecured personal loan, and you don't mind banking on the internet, then Cahoot's flexible loan should really be at the top of your short list. Cahoot is the online bank that's part of Abbey National, and unlike most places, they won't accept you at all unless you have a reasonably sound credit history. In return though, you get a fantastic rate on their loan - 7% APR in my case - which is by some way the best in the market. That said, friends of mine have had 8% and 9% offered, so I guess the precise rate depends on your exact risk rating. Not only is the rate ... more

Advantages Advantages Low APR, Easy to use website

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Only available on-line

This was my second loan from Cahoot, I had a £4k flexible loan which I then consolidated, along with other debts into a £7 fixed rate loan. I choose the fixed rate (currently at 5.9%) loan over the flexible, as I want a definitive end date to the loan. Although the flexible loan was, well.....flexible, it was always tempting to go into my account & withdraw a couple of hundred back out of the repayments I had made. This therefore meant that I wasn't paying back the loan at a set rate & so obviously I wasn't going to benefit from it. The online application process is extremely easy & quick to ... more

Advantages Advantages Ease of opening an account

Disadvantages Disadvantages No flexibility in fixed rate loan account

I took out a Fixed Rate Loan with Cahoot to purcase a car for a 4 year term. I chose Cahoot as it was listed on the 'Autotrader' website and the APR was very competitive. It was easy to apply for and the cash was available within a week of applying - so far so good. After 18 months, I decided to trade the car in for a different model. Obviously the dealer didn't accept my old car as part exchange with finance attached to it and as is was a week-end he advised me to get a settlment figure and then he would settle the finance as part of the deal. On the Monday I contacted Cahoot for a settlement ... more

Advantages Advantages Can withdraw up to credit level

Disadvantages Disadvantages Increasing APR when they decide on existing balances

I am very unimpressed with a cahoot personal loan. The one thing i did find when taking out a loan was they had a great user friendly web site that was secure and easy to use this is what prompted me to use their service but i wish i hadnt I took out a flexible cahoot loan about 4 years ago and would have to say at the time it was fine. I didnt realise a flexible loan meant that cahoot could up their interest rates on your loan at anytime. Although the first 3 years loan APR rate stayed the same and loan balance was reducing nicely over the past one year they have upped my interest rate 3 ... more
