Advantages Advantages Good interest rates, good customer service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some transfers can be complicated, personal page a tad unclear

Around this time last year I had a small sum of money that I wanted to put somewhere - nothing risky, just somewhere where I wouldn't be tempted to use it and could save and add to it for a holiday this summer. I saw a pop-up for a Zurich bank account which offered the best interest rate, and a free case of wine if you were eligible which I was. I know quite a few Ciaoers took advantage of this, but a couple of weeks later, they published poor financial results and closed their online banking arm, giving each customer their wine and £200 good will with no strings attached. So, back to square 1 ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Site down time

For interest rates on credit cards and current accounts it's hard to beat Cahoot. But there's much more to a great card than just the rates. I've had a Cahoot credit card for over a year now. The application process was simple and quick, the card arrived promptly and I've had no acceptance problems in any outlet. Periodically there are balance transfer incentives, namely 'reduce you balance by 5%', which offers more immediate rewards than simple lower rate balance transfer options offered by other cards and are truly a inspired tactic. I usually transfer the balance to get the reduction and ... more

Cahoot is an Internet bank part of the well known Abbey National group. Cahoot began in 2000 & offered only credit cards but recently has added other products to their range i.e current accounts & loans. They have no high street branches & only offer banking via the internet or telephone(at national call charges). Cahoot was one of the original companies to offer interest free credit cards for a set period of time, I can't think of any at the time that offered this facility it was set to become a trend. I first heard of Cahoot on a sky digital channel known as "Simply money" it was not an ... more

Advantages Advantages High interest current account

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None yet

OK, so I'm a fan of Internet banking - not only because I'm in control (well, I like to think so) - but you get better interest rates, access to your information whenever you want (most of the time anyway) and I find it easier than phone banking or calling into a local branch. Still, there are people who aren't convinced for security reasons, but I'm OK with this so far - I haven't had any problems (yet!) in over 2 years. I recently opened a Cahoot account as I wanted to maximise the interest I earnt on my savings. This happened to be a current account which offers 6.0% interest (as of August ... more

Cahoot is a division of Abbey National plc, who used to be a Building Society (remember them?) before demutualising then broadening its product range in order to leave it in its present state. Cahoot offer a whole range of financial services: current accounts, credit cards, loans, savings accounts, investment services and share services. I shall focus on just one of these services, the current account. What? Cahoot is an on-line bank, operated over the Internet. That said, you can not do everything over the Internet. Cheque deposits are made by post, or at the Post Office. Up to £500 cash per ... more

Advantages Advantages Best rate of interest on deposits, good website generally, and ease of use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor communications, certain features not working properly yet

I set up a Cahoot account last January, and believe me it ain't easy. To begin with there are about 9 or 10 pages of tedious form filling to complete. But make one mistake, accidental omission or misunderstanding, and the procedure grinds to a halt. In my case, I live in a block of flats, which has a name. On the first line of the address section is "House number". So if I typed 100 for that line, followed by "Wuthering Heights" for the 2nd line, followed by the street name on the next address line, Cahoot rejected this. After several attempts and combinations I tried to start the registration ... more

Advantages Advantages 24/7 banking facility, instant access, £500 a day from cash machines, good interest rates.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Internet only manipulation. Deposits via the mail or post office can introduce some delay.

Cahoot. > I had initial concerns about Internet banking until I found that some were front ends for well-established banks, cahoot for example being the Abbey National. Also Nationwide had an e-saver account Some months ago, when I was looking at the best interest rates available without tying your money up for months or years, these came out as number 1 and 2. cahoot at 7.1% and e-saver at 7%. As I already had accounts with the Nationwide, I setup and used their e-saver for several months, not being tempted by the unknown cahoot for only an additional 0.1%. When the e-saver dropped to 6.5% ... more

Advantages Advantages high interest rate on current account, low APR on credit card

Disadvantages Disadvantages very tiresome application process

Who has not heard of Cahoot these days? I decided to take advantage of their high interest rate on the current account and applied on-line. The first thing that went wrong was that halfway through the application process I was informed that an error had occurred and that I should telephone the call-centre for help. I did so and was informed that all I had to do was go back to the beginning and by using the same log-in details I would be taken back to where I had been. Puzzled by having to telephone them for this information, I went back and re-applied, this time without any further problems ... more

Would you like to earn more interest? *************************************** I have been a customer of Cahoot since 2003, when I switched from Barclays. My main reason for switching was at the time the Barclays current account was paying me something like 0.01% for an in credit balance, whereas Cahoot offered 3.5%. I don't know whether you recall now but the only main stream advertising Cahoot has really done was around 2002-2003, TV adverts featuring a bunch of cowboys sitting around playing cards with the phrase 'The kids got Cahoot' as the punchline. It was enough to interest me anyway ... more

Advantages Advantages very good interest rate for a current account facility

Disadvantages Disadvantages slightly limited range of accounts available

I resisted the rush into internet banking as a slight sceptic. I'm very comfortable using the net and buying over the net, but was probably a little set in my ways from a banking perspective. I also have fairly complex banking needs, and if you are in that category (e.g. you need a current and savings account, partner needs two accounts and either or both are self-employed and need business account too!)cahoot will only meet some of your needs.(e.g. you are limited to three accounts per customer) However, I took the plunge because the interest rates available for the facilities of a current ... more
