...but in today's low interest world, they are the best around. I have very few bad things to say about Cahoot, they really do seem to be light years ahead of the high street banks. It's just a shame that to benefit you have to be one of the lucky ones that can access a computer with Internet facilities on a regular basis.
To apply or to find out further information, you can do it via their website at www.cahoot.co.uk ...

Advantages: Low rates, Good service Disadvantages: Site down time
For interest rates on credit cards and current accounts it's hard to beat Cahoot. But there's much more to a great card than just the rates. I've had a Cahoot credit card for over a year now. The application process was simple and quick, the card arrived promptly and I've had no acceptance problems in any outlet. Periodically there are balance transfer incentives, namely 'reduce you balance by 5%', which offers more immediate rewards than simple ... ...are truly a inspired tactic. I usually transfer the balance to get the reduction and then transfer it straight back out again (they must hate me!). One big downer is they recently reviewed my APR and changed it from 9% to 11% without informing me. The emailed enquiry I sent as to why this had happened was answered within 24 hours so the service is good in that respect. I also make use of the flexible loan facility. This works much more like a credit ...

...cash on a Saturday evening I have a main current account with LLoydsTSB (into which both our salaries are paid) I contacted their telephone banking service which refused to increase my overdraft limit & reffered me to my branch being Saturday that meant two days without any money, I then contacted Cahoot as to increase my overdraft I had used up the intrest free £250 (one of the main reasons in opening the account), I rarely deposited any money in ... ...I honestly expected them to refuse the overdraft but they agreed to increase it to £500 which was available immediately.
To conclude- I'm satisfied with most of their services such as site navigation & telephone services but find paying cash/cheques into the account time consuming, cheques are deposited in to the account using envelopes they send out & the only way to pay cash is to transfer it from another account (which takes about 3 working days). ...

Advantages: High interest current account Disadvantages: None yet
OK, so I'm a fan of Internet banking - not only because I'm in control (well, I like to think so) - but you get better interest rates, access to your information whenever you want (most of the time anyway) and I find it easier than phone banking or calling into a local branch. Still, there are people who aren't convinced for security reasons, but I'm OK with this so far - I haven't had any problems (yet!) in over 2 years. I recently opened a Cahoot ... ...on my savings. This happened to be a current account which offers 6.0% interest (as of August 2001 for balances under £50,000) and included a debit card. There's an option for a chequebook - but you get a reduced interest rate and there didn't seem much point to me. The registration process was simple enough - I followed the instructions which lead me through the screen. Unfortunately, my modem then decided to disconnect at a vital point and I couldn't ...

Cahoot offer a whole range of financial services: current accounts, credit cards, loans, savings accounts, investment services and share services. I shall focus on just one of these services, the current account.

Cahoot is an on-line bank, operated over the Internet. That said, you can not do everything ... ...be done almost completely on-line. Besides submitting the usual details of name, address, employer, income, etc. you also need to decide on a username, password, memorable year, and memorable place. Not everything can be done on-line. Certain formalities are still required to be done by post: signing the application, and providing two proofs of identity and address for anti-laundering requirements.

Advantages: Best rate of interest on deposits, good website generally, and ease of use. Disadvantages: Poor communications, certain features not working properly yet
I set up a Cahoot account last January, and believe me it ain't easy.
To begin with there are about 9 or 10 pages of tedious form filling to complete. But make one mistake, accidental omission or misunderstanding, and the procedure grinds to a halt. In my case, I live in a block of flats, which has a name. On the first line of the address section is "House number". So if I typed 100 for that line, followed by "Wuthering Heights" for the 2nd line, ... ...Cahoot rejected this. After several attempts and combinations I tried to start the registration again, only to be told that my chosen username and password was already in use. Doh!!! This time I contacted Cahoot by telephone. That can be a trial in itself when they are busy, which they often are. Being on an 0870 code is expensive and time consuming when you're presented with an array of menu layers. Then you have to wait in a queue. Anyway that ...

<<<<<< UPDATE INFORMATION at end of op. >>>>>>
I had initial concerns about Internet banking until I found that some were front ends for well-established banks, cahoot for example being the Abbey National. Also Nationwide had an e-saver account
Some months ago, when I was looking at the best interest rates available without tying your money up for months or years, these came out as number 1 and 2. cahoot at 7.1% and e-saver at 7%.
As ... ...setup the direct debit facility.
Then I was a rather concerned when the money took over a week to appear in my cahoot account having vanished from my e-saver.
The next problem was after the first month’s interest was credited.
Although the correct form had been completed, the interest was paid net of tax and not gross as requested.
Apparently I had to make the request online or my form had been lost according customer services.
Anyway ...

Advantages: high interest rate on current account, low APR on credit card Disadvantages: very tiresome application process
Who has not heard of Cahoot these days? I decided to take advantage of their high interest rate on the current account and applied on-line.
The first thing that went wrong was that halfway through the application process I was informed that an error had occurred and that I should telephone the call-centre for help. I did so and was informed that all I had to do was go back to the beginning and by using the same log-in details I would be taken back ... ...them for this information, I went back and re-applied, this time without any further problems.
The one application can be used for a variety of products, including current, credit and loan accounts. I decided to apply for a current account and a credit card, as you can never have too many of those. You get asked what limits you want and, as they do not ask for your income details, you might want to try for something a bit higher than what you currently ...

...banking as a slight sceptic. I'm very comfortable using the net and buying over the net, but was probably a little set in my ways from a banking perspective. I also have fairly complex banking needs, and if you are in that category (e.g. you need a current and savings account, partner needs two accounts and either or both are self-employed and need business account too!)cahoot will only meet some of your needs.(e.g. you are limited to three accounts ... ...things in the first place. Advantages: Good rates of interest and the ease of online banking. Disadvantages: Losing money then finding it? Is this professional?
I joined Cahoot because I was interested in their high interest rates - I didn't want to tie my money up in an ISA as I was going to be spending most of it on home improvements. The interest rate when I joined was very good - 6% as I didn't want to lose interest for the priviledge of a cheque book. Unfortunately the interest rate keeps falling and is now 5.5%, I believe. Advantages: Good current account rate, credit card good deal Disadvantages: poor response to emails, not easy to setup
After reviewing the available options I decided to open a Cahoot account in December
It took several phone calls to succeed and eventually the account was opened in January.
The problems I encountered were
1. Could not load the application form online! - I emailed them about this
and they responded 4 days later.
Eventually it turns out you have have 128 bit encryption enabled to just load the form - pity they don't tell you this first

so had to ring again to have the application completed
3. Papers sent out to me did not include my wifes details - I had specified a joint account - took 3 phone calls over 2 weeks to sort this out
Why did I bother?
I thought the current account rate of 5% was attractice and good enough for ...

I had no qualms trying Internet Banking and first used Barclays PC Banking service back in 1997. I know that we here about breaches of security and fraud, but it's all about balance and evaluating the risk- I think it's far more likely you will be a victim of fraud by giving your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant or over the phone when booking cinema tickets.
Anyway, having tried Barclays and First Direct services, I can recommend Cahoot as ... ...very quick. You have a username which you decide (much better than being given a user number which is difficult to remember). Once in, you are free to pay bills to companies (from a list or if you know there bank account no. you can create it yourself) or people (just ask for their bank account no. and sort code). You can setup up regular payments (standing orders) although direct debits still have to be setup manually (this applies to all banks ...

Advantages: Relatively good interest rates, can use Post Office to pay in money Disadvantages: Moronic customer service, poor accessibility, awkward and slow website, no paper statements
I signed up to Cahoot for one basic reason: I wanted a current account with a decent interest rate. Cahoot paid the most interest, so I chose them.
Application:
Applying for an account was a cumbersome and tiresome process. I spent a quarter of an hour filling in banal questions on the website only to be told at the end that I did not meet their credit rating requirements! No reason was given. I was mystified, as I was in full time employment and ... ...of complaint to the manager at Cahoot and around two weeks later I finally received a letter informing me that I had been approved for an account following a 'review' of my details.
