Advantages: Good interest rates, good customer service Disadvantages: Some transfers can be complicated, personal page a tad unclear

---Applying---
Applying was fairly easy and is online only. You go to their homepage, click on apply and are taken to an interim page which informs you of their eligibility criteria, and what information they are going to need from you. It's all basic straightforward ... ...I try to log in, Cahoot doesn't have me registered as a customer and when I apply again it says I am already registered - it is supposed to bring you back to the place where you left off in the event of such a situation happening. Anyway, 1 quick call to the Cahoot helpline (in which I was answered fairly quickly and was surprised at how quickly the whole thing was over with), and the guy at the other end fixed the problem. I was to attempt to apply ...

Advantages: Low rates, Good service Disadvantages: Site down time
...I've had a Cahoot credit card for over a year now. The application process was simple and quick, the card arrived promptly and I've had no acceptance problems in any outlet. Periodically there are balance transfer incentives, namely 'reduce you balance by 5%', which offers more immediate rewards than simple lower rate balance transfer options offered by other cards and are truly a inspired tactic. I usually transfer the balance to get the reduction ... ...or made straight from the cahoot website.
A telephone helpline number is provided on the back of all the cards. I have called it on a few occasions and was pleased to find the service friendly, efficient and I wasn't kept on hold for ages. The site is fairly easy to navigate, although it has been down a few times since i've had the account, but the provision of adequate telephone services means that this is not too disastrous. Security wise, in ...

Cahoot is an Internet bank part of the well known Abbey National group. Cahoot began in 2000 & offered only credit cards but recently has added other products to their range i.e current accounts & loans. They have no high street branches & only offer banking via the internet or telephone(at national call charges).

I first heard of Cahoot on a sky digital channel known as "Simply money" it was not an advertisement but a best buy, only being offered to the first 50000 applicants(I think, can't recall the exact numer of applicants).
My experience with them relates to having their credit card & current account. The credit card I originally applied for offered an Interest rate of 0% fixed for a year, extremely competitive. I immediately transfered all my ...

Advantages: High interest current account Disadvantages: None yet
...I recently opened a Cahoot account as I wanted to maximise the interest I earnt on my savings. This happened to be a current account which offers 6.0% interest (as of August 2001 for balances under £50,000) and included a debit card. There's an option for a chequebook - but you get a reduced interest rate and there didn't seem much point to me. The registration process was simple enough - I followed the instructions which lead me through the screen. ... ...point and I couldn't get back to where I was. I called their customer services and was talking to a helpful guy in less than a minute. He said I should register again, and the system would recognise me and I'd be able to carry on - true enough it did, and this time I completed it successfully. Then I was sent an e-mail to say I'd been conditionally accepted and was posted a form to complete. After returning my address ID the account was open within ...

Cahoot is a division of Abbey National plc, who used to be a Building Society (remember them?) before demutualising then broadening its product range in order to leave it in its present state.
Cahoot offer a whole range of financial services: current accounts, credit cards, loans, savings accounts, investment services and share services. I shall focus on just one of these services, the current account.

Setting Up a cahoot current account can be done almost completely on-line. Besides submitting the usual details of name, address, employer, income, etc. you also need to decide on a username, password, memorable year, and memorable place. You also need your mother’s maiden name.
Not everything can be done on-line. Certain formalities are still required to be done by post: signing the application, and providing two proofs of identity ...

Advantages: Best rate of interest on deposits, good website generally, and ease of use. Disadvantages: Poor communications, certain features not working properly yet
I set up a Cahoot account last January, and believe me it ain't easy.
To begin with there are about 9 or 10 pages of tedious form filling to complete. But make one mistake, accidental omission or misunderstanding, and the procedure grinds to a halt. In my case, I live in a block of flats, which has a name. On the first line of the address section is "House number". So if I typed 100 for that line, followed by "Wuthering Heights" for the 2nd line, ... ...Cahoot rejected this. After several attempts and combinations I tried to start the registration again, only to be told that my chosen username and password was already in use. Doh!!! This time I contacted Cahoot by telephone. That can be a trial in itself when they are busy, which they often are. Being on an 0870 code is expensive and time consuming when you're presented with an array of menu layers. Then you have to wait in a queue. Anyway that ...

...front ends for well-established banks, cahoot for example being the Abbey National. Also Nationwide had an e-saver account
Some months ago, when I was looking at the best interest rates available without tying your money up for months or years, these came out as number 1 and 2. cahoot at 7.1% and e-saver at 7%.
As I already had accounts with the Nationwide, I setup and used their e-saver for several months, not being tempted by the unknown cahoot ... ...6.5% and cahoot remained at 7.1% I decided to investigate.
Setting up an account was easy, no real problems that I can remember. Didn’t even have to send any money to do so. Requested the higher interest non-chequebook account.
“Welcome” pack arrived about a week later. Full instructions, paying in book, envelopes for deposits either at a post office or via snail mail and a combined Link cash machine & Delta debit card.

Advantages: high interest rate on current account, low APR on credit card Disadvantages: very tiresome application process
Who has not heard of Cahoot these days? I decided to take advantage of their high interest rate on the current account and applied on-line.
The first thing that went wrong was that halfway through the application process I was informed that an error had occurred and that I should telephone the call-centre for help. I did so and was informed that all I had to do was go back to the beginning and by using the same log-in details I would be taken back ... ...my existing account and the Cahoot account had been set up and my debit card had been received and activated on-line. By this time, I had received no word of my credit card and sent Cahoot an e-mail asking for more information. I received a fast response stating I had to send in the credit agreement, which was in the post, and 2 forms of ID. Oh dear. I queried this and received a modified response stating I had to telephone the call-centre, as they ...

...have been a customer of Cahoot since 2003, when I switched from Barclays. My main reason for switching was at the time the Barclays current account was paying me something like 0.01% for an in credit balance, whereas Cahoot offered 3.5%. Now that I've got past the experimental stage, I am sold to the advantages - you can pay money in and out quite easily electronically, although you do have the work of setting up these things in the first place. It is also quite easy to recive money into your account via BACS transfer. Like with any bank howevr, there is the inevitable, 3 or 4 working days for things to clear ...

Advantages: Good rates of interest and the ease of online banking. Disadvantages: Losing money then finding it? Is this professional?
I joined Cahoot because I was interested in their high interest rates - I didn't want to tie my money up in an ISA as I was going to be spending most of it on home improvements. The interest rate when I joined was very good - 6% as I didn't want to lose interest for the priviledge of a cheque book. Unfortunately the interest rate keeps falling and is now 5.5%, I believe. Current interest rates depend on whether you want their chequebook and how much ... ...I find that the Cahoot website is frequently down. Which is very irritating. Also they have made some rather big errors... You have to send money to them by post (or pay it via the post office - who then just send it by post anyway). I sent Cahoot a rather large cheque back in July which they claimed never to have recieved. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Told the person whose cheque it was - so they could cancel it. Then they wired the money ...

Advantages: Good current account rate, credit card good deal Disadvantages: poor response to emails, not easy to setup
...I decided to open a Cahoot account in December
It took several phone calls to succeed and eventually the account was opened in January.
The problems I encountered were
1. Could not load the application form online! - I emailed them about this
and they responded 4 days later.
Eventually it turns out you have have 128 bit encryption enabled to just load the form - pity they don't tell you this first
For most people enabling this involves a quick ... ...the incentive that I had £4000 outstanding on ny Access account and switching it to Cahoot would reduce it to £3800 with thier 5% reduction offer on transferred balances

I have now been with cahoot for 4 months and my initial epxerieinces were less than satisfactory.
Despite been fairly IT - literate I had problems signing up online untiul I had upgraded the security level of my web browser - for a while i kept getting an error message and I had no idea what was going on

1. Cahoot pay you less interest if you want a cheque book

Advantages: Relatively good interest rates, can use Post Office to pay in money Disadvantages: Moronic customer service, poor accessibility, awkward and slow website, no paper statements
I signed up to Cahoot for one basic reason: I wanted a current account with a decent interest rate. Cahoot paid the most interest, so I chose them.
Application:
Applying for an account was a cumbersome and tiresome process. I spent a quarter of an hour filling in banal questions on the website only to be told at the end that I did not meet their credit rating requirements! No reason was given. I was mystified, as I was in full time employment and ... ...complaint to the manager at Cahoot and around two weeks later I finally received a letter informing me that I had been approved for an account following a 'review' of my details.
