Advantages: A gas hotplate which gives instantly controlable heat. Disadvantages: So far I haven't encountered any disadvantages.

Cannon advise that pans with diameters between 4" and 9" should be used on the hotplate and that pans should be sited centrally over the burners.
I have used a Paella pan with an 11" diameter on the hotplate several times and not encountered any problems.
Each burner has a spark ignitor for lighting the gas.
