Fast scanning at an affordable price

Advantages: Can scan large items, fast.
Disadvantages: n/a

So there I was in Curry's looking for a good scanner, what I didn't what was a large thick scanner that would take up most of my desk space, and lo and behold I found the LiDE 20 a flat and I mean flat scanner that would just fit in with the amount I wanted to spend only £60. After getting the LiDE 20 home, I unpacked it and book a quick look at the size of the manual, oh my god, the manual was virtually the same size as the scanner, but after a ...

SETTING UP THE LiDE 20 ---------------------- Nothing could be simpler, remove the protective tape from the scanner and unlock the scanning mechanism via a switch underneath, then simply plug in the USB cable supplied and turn on your PC. When your PC detects the new hardware you select cancel and insert the software disc and run it. After starting the installation software, the software ...

At the touch of a button

Advantages: So slim & sexy... Oh, and it scans things!
Disadvantages: really can't think of any

I bought this scanner for £55, that was money very well spent... ***************************************************** Let me give you a quick list of what you will need to use this scanner: •USB port, no need for an AC adaptor HURRAY! •Color monitor with 800 x 600 or higher display and 256 or more colors •CD-ROM drive (2x or faster) •Windows® 98/ Me/ 2000 Professional: Pentium® 150MHz processor or higher/ 64MB RAM Windows® XP: Pentium 300MHz ...
...X v10.1 or later: 128MB RAM Now the trivial part is out of the way, I'll tell you a bit about the scanner itself... The scanner sits just one inch off the ground, and marks a new era in the design of scanners, no more chunky machines weighing tonnes! There are 3 buttons on the front of the scanner: scan (saves a scan to your documents). copy (copies, then prints). email (sends a copy to outlook). Oh you pretty thing...

Advantages: Small, neat and very pretty
Disadvantages: None as far as this simple soul is concerned

Introduction: I had a very fine scanner made by HP but my new PC would not accept the PCMCIA card that came with it so a trip to the superstore was in order. Time was at a premium as I had to print several dozen pamphlets and these had to include many scanned photographs. Not having the benefit of a pile of PC magazines and several days to read them I went purely on the box description and the price. Also the LiDE 20 was an attractive looking ...

Go Scan Crazy!

Advantages: Slim, quality scanning, bargain price!
Disadvantages: Noise, speed, old model.

...My eyes fell upon the Canon Lide 20 and that's where they remained. This was my Christmas present to myself, and it's certainly been a present for life. But enough of the schmaltz! Here's the nitty-gritty: Price & availability: At the time my scanner was £59.99, but due to a price ticket error, i got it for £49.99. (yay me!) This scanner is available from most electrical outlets, online if not instore, and the current RRP seems to be £38.99. ...
...in the centre with the Canon symbol on. Ease of use & some tech stuff: I don't know about newer scanners, but the Lide 20 is simple to use. It has 2 shortcut buttons on the front of the base: to scan, copy and email. There is a lock on the back for when not in use, and a clip stand for mounting the scanner on it's side for scanning larger items. The resolution is 600 x 1200 dpi with 48 bit colour. This scanner is powered by USB, which is very ...

The Scanner That's Simply Brilliant

Advantages: Very Quick, Very Easy, Very good Value
Disadvantages: Cannot think of any.

When I first bought this scanner I was really getting it just for little jobs like copying writing etc, but I now use it for duplicating 35mm photos and other big jobs because it is so good. Speed = 10/10 =========== The speed of this scanner is definitly one of its high points, it is extremly quick with documents and other black and white things, and is still quite nippy when you scan big memory things such as photos. Overall the speed is Excellent. ...
...show when you scan something are very good, they are all of high quality and all show up very well and crisp, thus leading to the scanner having great colour sensitivity. Overall, colours very good. Resolution = 10/10 =============== The resolution is very good on this scanner, it can range from little resolutions such as 300 dpi (Dots Per Inch), up to great resolutios for photos etc, such as 1200 dpi. The resolution at any size is very good and ...

CanoSCAN LiDE 20 - Slim Perfection

Advantages: Slim, small, lightweight, portable
Disadvantages: Little bit noisy

I bought my laptop a few months back and figured id buy a new scanner while I was there. I wanted something small, lightweight, portable and good looking – for a reasonable price. And I found it. The CanoScan LiDE 20 is one of the lightest, most portable scanners I’ve seen - It weighs next to nothing, and I frequently carry it in my laptop bag when im moving around. The scanner itself features three ‘EZ’ buttons – which couldn’t make scanning any ...
...a nifty little stand, which allows for upright scanning – which is perfect, if like me you have limited desk space. Another great feature is it’s ‘Z-Lid’ making it possible to scan large items that wouldn’t normally fit under a regular scanners lid – such as large books. The fact that it is bus powered, means you don’t have extra cables dangling around, and it takes full advantage of the speed offered by USB 2.0. Aside from technically being a great ...

Paper-thin scanner

Advantages: VERY small, usb powered
Disadvantages: mine is very noisy

The canonscan LIDE 20 is one of the smallest and lightest scanners out - my first scanner died on me impressively and seeing as I have to move my entire system every now and then I decided I wanted to find a small compact scanner which would be easy to move AND one which did not require mains power.... so I investigated to see if there were any available which ran from the USB port - and sure enough, this one does! The picture quality I get from ...
...honest I would have to say my last scanner (HP Scanjet 3300C) gave marginally better results, but for everyday use - I'm more than happy with the results. My only real gripe is that each time I use mine, it sounds like a cat is performing Hara-kiri - having spoken to a couple of other friends who also own the same model... theirs are also noisy, but short of inspecting every scanner than comes of canon's production line, I can't say that goes for ...

There are 3 buttons on the front of the scanner: scan (saves a scan to your documents). copy (copies, then prints). email (sends a copy to outlook). ...You get Photo Studio 5, Photo Base 3, Adobe Acrobat, and an OCR program. What ever you need to use the scanner for (documents, photos, whatever!) you are catered for. If scanning big books the patented Z-lid technology is so simple, yet so brilliant. It enables the lid to remain horizontal even when scanning chunky things! The scanner is easy to set up, just plug it in, install the software, then scan. And there's only one cable, bliss! Scanning ...

Great little scanner for the money

Advantages: Slim and compact. Easy to use
Disadvantages: none found yet

The Canon Lide 20 scanner is good value for money. I bought mine for £45 at Comet. Its compact and slim in design, and comes with a small bracket which allows you to stand the scanner/use it on its side, so it will fit into the tightest of spots. It has a very good range of software, from ARCSOFT.. Both excellent in operation, simple and easy to use. Both are really photo programs, but the photo studio will function with text based scan's. Various ...
...to the software company. Easy to install, and worked first time without a hitch.. Which was surprising as I operate Windows 98se, on a modern 2600+ Athlon processor, and usually no accessory or software addition goes on with ease. There is also a Omnipage software for main text based scans, and has character recognition, but at this time of writing haven't had a reason to try it out (so no comment on its quality). The Scanner can also be used ...

Great Budget priced scanner!

Advantages: Small, light, easy to use, price
Disadvantages: Long scan time for highest quality

...scanner, we have always had canon printers so we brought it (£24.98 brand new inc P&P). Installation was quick and easy and being USB powered, there is only one cable to connect. The unit is very compact and can be used flat or upright thanks to the detachable baseplate. 3 simple buttons on the front of the scanner can be re programed to you own choice for scanning straight into a folder, direct copy to printer, or all sorts of other things! The ...
...work first time. Although canon do have a great after sales service via email so any little problems that may occur are sorted quickly. The quality of the scan for such a cheap scanner is superb, although for the best quality scan it does take a long while to fully scan and upload to your pc, but if like me you only use a scanner every now and again, it really is worth the money. So for all of you who want a cheap scanner but good quality, this ...

Well, almost...

Advantages: Cheap & easy.
Disadvantages: New software to learn about.

First things first: Install the software. Well, this scanner comes with a shed-load of software which you can choose to install (or not) to help scan and manage scanned documents, as you require. After skipping a key piece of software - and consequently having to go through the install process a second time - I scanned a photograph into my computer and, in 10 seconds, had a preview on my monitor. 30 seconds later and there was my cousin: Beautiful ...
...Well almost... My primary requirement was to be able to scan editable text into my computer. This function is known as OCR and, to be fair, is offered by most scanners these days. After finding the right software program (see above) I placed a letter into the scanner and started the process: I no time, a preview is available - so that you can select particular lines or paragraphs - seconds later, it's scanned! Is that it? Last thing to do is to ...

Big name, small footprint, great scanner

Advantages: Uses very little deskspace
Disadvantages: None

...is a superb scanner from Canon at a very reasonable price (I paid £55 for mine). The quality and resolution of scans is very good as you'd expect from Canon. It is user friendly with the accompanying software and three buttons on the front allow you to fire up the appropriate software for scanning, emailing or copying to printer. The best thing about the scanner though is the very small footprint. It's not very big as scanners go anyway, so even ...

BUT it also comes with a mount that allows you to stand it on it's side and you can STILL USE IT while it is in this position (unless you are scanning from something heavy like a magazine or book.) Good value for money, great quality scans, and unobtrusive on your desk. Can't ask for more! ...

Great scanner, great price

Advantages: Inexpensive, user friendly, attractive & light, name brand
Disadvantages: A bit flimsy

...would have still bought the Canon LIDE 20. This scanner is portable, easy to use, attractive, and the scan quality is wonderful! Another big plus is that this is a name-brand scanner. As I discovered with my last scanner, one should never buy a little-known brand of computer hardware as these companies will often go out of business and the drivers will dissapear off the web. Then you wont be able to use it with any later versions of your OS. Luckly, ...
...one of the best companies around. Good customer service, good quality, and always making user friendly items. So far, this scanner has lasted me almost a year, and it shows no sign of wearing out. And if it was cheap when I bought it, look at the prices now! This is definitally a best buy in my book, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a scanner under £200. ...
