Advantages: Very sleek and stylish looking, slimline. Scans quite fast. Disadvantages: Expensive for the specs. Lack of any special features. Limited Colour producing capabilities.
...least decent results, with the Canon Canoscan LiDe 35 though, this wasn't to be the case. The scanner comes across as highly home-orientated, yet never backs up its modestly flashy appearance with results.
With the revision sheets however, it performed better, perhaps simply because they were plain black and white text sheets, rather than colour pictures. And while the text was clear, was also somewhat inferior to the crisp text quality my Scanjet ... ...looks the part the CanoScan LiDe is fairly hopeless at pretty much everything its supposed to do. Its antiquated, washed out looking reproductions of even the most vivid pictures my mate had contributed to the cold fact that this is a terrible scanner. Even with text sheets its unable to produce complete clarity.
So to conclude, this scanner is frankly crap. I don't recommend even going within a few feet of one, let alone buying it. Don't be fooled ...

Advantages: lightweight, fast and easy to set up and use. nice slimline design. Disadvantages: None that I have found
...I first looked at the Canon LiDE35 - I'm afraid I wanted this machine so badly, I didn't shop around and bought it there and there. I loved its slim looks and the fact that it didn't need it's own power supply. It works directly from the USB connection.
The scanner was well packaged in a nice strong box with a carry handle that I found handy to keep it stored when it's not in use. The software was child's play to load and easy to understand. Other useful abilities this machine has is that it comes with a bracket that enables you to stand the scanner on end in an upright positions if you are short of desk space, scans to an ample 1200x2400dpi, 48bit input/output and operates on PC or Mac.
Included on the installation CD for windows and Macintosh were ScanGear CS, CanoScan Toolbox, ArcSoft Photostudio, ...

Quick review of Canon CanoScan LiDE 35
A very good scanner. I scan in a lot of drawings, and the image resolution is very good. It does however tend to pick up the off-white of the background paper rather a lot, and so some photoshopping is needed to get this back to white. The auto tone feature is useful, but also very annoying, as it tends to up the contrast on pictures rather a lot. This can be turned off however. Very good value for money overall. ...

Review of Canon CanoScan LiDE 35
Advantages: Sleek with front pad to start off some major features Disadvantages: Text scanning dubious, but see review
One needs to set WHAT you are scanning from to get a reasonable scan - photo, magazine, black & white image etc. The reproduction on screen is not (necessarily) what it would look like if you were to print it out there & then. Doubling as a photocopier is a brilliant idea, via the front buttons which as another reviewer says means you don't need to start a software package on your computer. Some fixing might be required for photos and using Adobe ... ...recallibrates itself from time to time, which can slow things down but does mean if you previously scanned a small item then scan a large one, the end results are comparable. Haven't found the text scanning facility to be very useful, but this is possibly because I have been trying to scan 8 point text (and smaller) as well as output from a dot matrix printer ! ...
