One secret behind the super sleek and slim body is a new UA (ultra-high refractive index aspherical) 3x optical zoom lens, which delivers outstanding, uncompromising image fidelity in an incredibly compact size. The large, high-definition 2.0" LCD screen allows immediate review of images and playback of very long high quality 30 fps VGA movie clips with sound (recording of up to 1GB movie files possible). You can even shoot up to 60 sec of fast QVGA action at 60 fps for slow motion review. Canon's DIGIC II processor links all key camera functions and includes a dedicated movie processor, driving fast auto-focus, outstanding camera performance and quick start-up times. Highly complex image processing algorithms necessary to deliver superb image quality are handled fast and efficiently to keep you ready for the next shot and to allow for rapid, smooth continuous shooting. iSAPS instantly analyzes the scene and makes adjustments even before the shutter release is pressed. It optimizes exposure, white balance and auto-focus settings in every shooting situation for consistently brilliant results. Six scene modes help you create great results with confidence in tricky shooting conditions, while a fully automatic 9-point AiAF system gets even off center subjects sharply in focus. Connect the camera to any PictBridge compatible photo printer, push the Print/Share button and within seconds, you'll be holding a full color print - it's that simple. When connected to a Canon SELPHY CP series printer, you can even print handy ID photo prints.

Advantages: Compact, Good quality images
Disadvantages: AV/Digital Out and battery cover

The Canon IXUS 40 is one of the best digital cameras I have ever used. When I ordered the camera I ordered a 512meg card to replace the standard 32meg card supplied with the camera, as I was planning on taking the camera away on holiday for 3 weeks and would have no way of downloading the images. 512meg card holds: Super Fine - 2274x1704 --> 245 Super Fine - 1600x1200 --> 487 Super Fine - 1024x768 --> 843 Super Fine - 640x480 --> 1837 Super ... IXUS 40
Review of Canon Digital IXUS 40 by badgers993

Advantages: great pics and easy to use, lots of features and good value
Disadvantages: bigger than some other cameras and less pixals

All in all a great little camera with great features and good picture quality, could do with a better zoom but for this money you can't go wrong. You can now get more mega pixals however and also more zoom capability. It looks great and is very easy to use with clearly marked controls and a easy to refer to instruction manual. I have had mine for 4 years and i have given it plenty of abuse but it is still in great working order so they are obviously ... Read review

Good camera, with few limitations
Review of Canon Digital IXUS 40 by sophiemaywatts

Advantages: Takes very good pictures
Disadvantages: Small viewing screen

This camera travelled around southeast Asia and Europe with me for nearly two years. It was straightforward to use and took great pictures. I was very happy with their quality and the camera's general function. There were just a couple of limitations to this camera. The viewing screen is quite small (much smaller than most of the new cameras with similar specifications) which makes it a little harder to check that you have taken a good shot. Sometimes ... Fabulous little camera......
Review of Canon Digital IXUS 40 by kimwo

Advantages: Compact, Light, Good screen size, Excellent photos
Disadvantages: None really! Except didnt come with a case.

I love this camera, I bought mine nearly two years ago and I have no need to upgrade. It is very small, infact it is the same size as my Siemans SL65 mobile phone, it's light and so easy to carry around, you can just pop it in your pocket and hardly even know youre carrying a camera. The Screen is a good size, I love being able to zoom into the picture once it has been taken. The battery life is good although once it starts bleeping you don't ... Read review
