...my very own digital camera. Canon Ixus 50. Out of all the camera's I've had or used this has got to be my favourite! (My dad is jealous because my camera is smaller than his is and he wants to swap!) It is really easy to use and it is just a nice size to carry around. Weight 130g. Size (H)53, (W)86, (D)20.7mm. It is less than half the size of my dad's camera.
When my parents bought the camera (from Comet) it was on offer. It came with a case, an ... ...user guide, a leaflet about Canon Image Gateway (www.cig.canon-europe.com), a quick start guide, which includes lots of images, and finally the camera user guide. This is 193 pages long and explains how to operate the camera. It is very well detailed and has images, which show you which part of the camera it is talking about.
Charging the batteries - the batteries only take 1hour and a half each to charge. The light on the charger changes from orange ...

Well, I finally decided to purchase a digital camera, and didn't know where to start...
I eventually found myself searching Canan's product's and saw the new Digital IXUS advertised in a magazine with a good review.
The whole IXUS range had very good reviews, however i had to decide which one i could afford/need. I made my decision to get the 5 mega pixel - the IXUS 50.
I purchased this for a very reasonable price after searching through this ... ...for a holiday to South Africa, this involved taking pictures of wildlife and scenary, so it had to be at a good standard, and it is.

I bought this camera when it was new over 2 years ago now. I is still as reliable as when first bought. Picture quality is excellent and ease of use superb. This is one of the best digital compact cameras i have used an although was over £200 when new can be bought at a fraction of the cost now. Intially going for the cybershot series from Sony, this range for its sleak and compact beauty stood out a mile. Given its 5m pixel, I bought 1GB memory and to date it gives excellent results. Whether, it is optical zoom, or darker conditions the lens is brilliant reproducing excellent colours. However, be careful on distance and flash as here it may need a bit of practice. Also, settings for glorious sunny days need to be adjusted since you often ... ...of the lens. Nevetheless, numerous people within my circles have seen and used the camera and assessed results, and we agree that an excellent all round camera which looks good too! I purchased this camera to replace my somewhat bulky nikon effort.
I wanted to have a good range of features but most importantly I wanted a camera that was small enough to fit in my pocket. I like going to watch football matches (come on Oxford!) and also I go out to pubs and bars a lot and I wanted a camera I could easily take with me to these events. I have a giant photoboard in my computer room and I like to keep adding to it, so I like my camera ... ...bill perfectly. It is tiny, it fits in the pocket of my jeans nicely, meaning that I'm never going to miss out on a photo opportunity.
The camera doesn't come with a case but I've found that it is extremely durable and I've actually just been using a soft pouch to carry it around in (the pouch was rom a pair of old sunglasses).

I am extremely happy with this camera. I have had it for about a month and have had nothing but fun, good photos and excellent quality with it. Not only does this camera look BEAUTIFUL, sleek and sexy, but it takes high quality images too. The camera is a 5mega pixel camera with 3x optical zoom which is more than enough for my needs. It offers both still images and video recording features. It also offers 9 different preset picture modes which include ... ...to sit still. I was extremely impressed with the fact that the camera came with a: high quality leather case and 2 rechargeable batteries which last for a long time! I use my camera every day at least once and this fully charged battery has lasted about 3 weeks!
One disadvantage is that there is no internal memory and the camera only comes with a 16mb memory SD card which held about 6 photos which was dissapointing. Therefore i would reccomend you ...

...side my Fuji s9500. The Canon was purchased for ocassions where the Fuji was just too bulky to carry around. I was very pleasantly suprised by the quality of image that the small canon could produce, a lot of the pictures even came out better than the more expensive Fuji.
Colours from the Canon are vivd and well defined with very little bluring on daytime shots. The camera does somewhat struggle with night time shots due to the limited ISO speed ... ...come out slightly grainy but this is my \'overly fussy\' opinion. In general the camera is a great everyday camera and produces clear and well defined images in the majority of situations. If you are looking to enlarge photos taken on a digital camera I would recommend going for higher resolution than 5 Megapixels to avoid the image losing it\'s sharpness. ...

...that you get some free canon software with this camera to help you edit photos and viewing photos in a simple little program is ace. The movie mode isn't best however, considering it is a camera not a camcorder, it is quite decent. Another great thing about the movie mode is that once you've recorded your movie you can actually crop it down on the camera itself, rather than using some fussy complicated software on your computer. The transfer of photos ... ...PC via a USB port which are really common on the majority of computers these days. Some people say that the camera is bulky but that's only in copmparison to some of the newer cameras which are out, other than that, it's pocket sized, lightweight, and most camera cases can hold this camera which can be bought for as little as £10. I was actualyl amazed that i could buy a 512MB memory card, which was fully compatible for just £25. Now that's amazing, ...

I recently received this camera for my birthday, and having previously no desire for a digital camera I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of the smallest digital camera's I have ever seen, and I personally think this is an important aspect in this modern age. One of the things that put me off digital cameras in the past was their bulky characteristics. This is not an issue here, with the Ixus' pocket size design. The size of this camera has not ... ...be sacrificed. It has 4.0 mega pixels, which provides an excellent quality in the finished photograph. The camera is very easy to use with a automatic focusing tool, when you depress the 'take' button half way, this makes it easy to get professional looking photos. The zoom on the camera is also excellent and provides a good addition to the camera, and the quality of the photo is still present even with the zoom.

I've had this camera for around 10 months and its been brilliant. The pictures are excellent and its really easy to use. I've connected it to my laptop and WinXP picked it up no probs without having to install additional software.
The screen is a good size, not to small and not to big (which would impact the battery life), its got a viewfinder incase of any probs with the lcd screen and takes excellent pics when in night mode.

Initial thoughts are that this is a fab little camera. Very compact and easy to use.
Not much manual control over exposure settings, but generally these are not needed as it effortlessly produces great quality photos with vivid colours and sharp focus.
The movie mode is also excellent with great quality sound and the option to record high resolution clips for up to 30 seconds.
There is only one drawback, but unfortunately it is a major one. The ... ...is turned on/off is very tempremental and is prone to failure within a few months. If a small grain of dirt or sand works its way into the zoom mechanism, it can easily block it, resulting in an 'e18 error' which renders the camera useless.
Although you can take the camera back to canon, if within warranty, it is very frustrating to have a camera than you know can fail at anytime, however carefully you look after it. ...

After using a Canon AE-1 for many years, I finally decided to give a light-weight digital a try... and it is excellent!
The metal body gives it a very comfortable weight and feel or reliability. It's great as an automatic compact, but also has enough manual features and tinkering tools built in to please the more advanced user.
The buttons are very intuitive to use, and Canon have kept their high standard with the lens quality.
