Advantages Advantages Reliable, durable, great images

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small battery, low pixellage by modern standards

I've owned this camera for six years now, and taken many thousands of pictures with it (the counter is on 7,500+), at times and places that perhaps many other cameras would have let me down. When I bought this back in 2002 I was used to using SLRs and "serious" film cameras, but I wanted my first digital to be a camera that I could pretty much take anywhere, and simply rely on for a great shot - and that's exactly what I got. The IXUS V follows on from the original Digital IXUS, with the V not being Roman for "5" as many assume, but actually standing for Video - this was the first IXUS that ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact, good results, now good value.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Menus a bit fiddly.

Having often admired the Ixus cameras but been deterred by the price, when it came to finding a compact camera to complement my wife's Fuji 4900Z, the Ixus V was on the shortlist. I was looking for something small enough to take everywhere, but with enough features and quality to satisfy a keen photographer. I paid £319 for the Ixus V, which is significantly cheaper than the Minolta Dimage X and Pentax Optio 330, the others on my shortlist. Picture quality so far has been excellent - printing to A4 size starts to show some loss of definition, but A5 is hard to fault. Colour rendition is very ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, uses compact flash (cheaper and used more than SD cards), b & w looks nice

Disadvantages Disadvantages movie playback has no sound, shutter speed is not variable so can blur, buttons can become sticky

I bought one of these in Dec 2002. Its worked fairly well considering the bashing its had. The thing with a small camera is that you tend to take it to places (and in situations) where you are most liekly to break it e.g. the pub, a club or the beach. I'm fairly happy with it but the buttons are sticking a bit. Sometimes the power doesn't come on properly. A couple of times the battery has died with the lense still out which can be a pain. With the Compact Flash cards I found the 128mb upwards ones soon came up with problems but it may be coincidental with using it at the beach - sand etc ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, compact, light, and durable

Disadvantages Disadvantages very few, i really cant think of any now

This is the most smart camera i've had so far. It takes very fine pictures, and is very small, light, and easy to hold. It's got many features, such as lighting controls, macro-mode, scene mode, movie taking with sound (even though you can't preview the sound directly on the camera), and many more things and settings for people who enjoy playing around with these types of things. The software it comes with for downloading and archiving is very good (ArcSoft. Thought there is not good editing software thta comes wiht the camera. Pesonally i use Adobe Photoshop 7, it does magic. Because of it's ... more

Advantages Advantages compact, many picture options

Disadvantages Disadvantages no case included, slow to take photos

I bought the Ixus V as it was the smallest available digital camera at the time with the range of features I wanted. The picture quality is excellent, although it can be slow to take pictures and then with the long exposure time in low light, longer still. The video function, which can take up to about 15 seconds of footage, has actually been very useful - I never thought I'd use it! The camera only comes with an 8Mb compact flash - it is worth upgrading this when you buy the camera, I bought a 64Mb CF at the time and have never filled it before being able to upload photos. For xample, on ... more

Advantages Advantages Ease of everyday use, quality of construction

Disadvantages Disadvantages Advanced menu a bit tricky

I bought one of these cameras when they first appeared on the shelves. At the time it was one of the shiniest, coolest bits of kit to be had. I bought a 128 mb card to go with it as the 8 mb one supplied was a bit meagre. Went home very pleased with my new bit of eye-candy! A year and a half later and I wouldn't give it up for the world. It's been halfway round the world with me too. Never had a cover for it - the metal casing has kept it safe from stuff in pockets, bars, beaches and anything else life has thrown at it. I am a complete amateur, so probably don't make enough use of this ... more

Advantages Advantages attractive, easy to use, quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages a little fiddly at times

This smart little camera caught my eye on display straight away, and that's not just because it looks shiny. Having had a FUJIFILM before, I thought I'd try another and the choice was between Canon, Minolta and Samsung, all similar models. The quality of print of this camera is impressive, though the camera is only as good as the printer. Up to a size somewhere between A5 and A4 print quality is excellent, and resolution remains good. With photo quality ink and paper you wouldn't know the camera was digital. As far as the camera itself is concerned, the layout is very good, all commonly used ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages slow picture taking speed, low batery life, short screen

Canon Digital IXUS V is very easy to use and handle. The picture quality is excellent for 2.1 MP. the movie function is great and allows good little snippits of video action. for using it u dont hav to be a technocrat, it is very user friendly and there is also semi user mode for advanced user. Iyts 64mb memory space can store many pictures(400 pics). its rugged aluminium case give it a more funky look. it also make it much stronger and durable. in the manual mode u can adjust ur white balance for taking your night shots. Advantages Advantages takes great pictures

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

This little Canon Ixus V digital camera packs a big punch. It has loads of facilities for such a small camera such as Movie with sound and the ability to make it as easy or as complicated to use as you like. The quality is excellent both in the pics taken and the feel of the camera. It has a very rugged aluminium shell that also makes it look the dogs b£$$lks. Well worth it, but if you want really high definition pics than go for 3.1mp or higher. I bought mine in the Carribean for $300 brand new with 96mb card and loads of pc stuff such as a docking station all thrown in. Buy it there if you ... more
