The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens is fantastic. It offers a very useful focal length, excellent construction, a constant f/2.8 aperture and Canon's 3-stop Image Stabilisation feature.
From the moment you remove it from it's box, you know this is a very serious piece of kit. Along with the lens, you get the lens hood, a nice lens bag for storage and tripod collar mount.
Personally, I'm quite comfortable walking around all day with this lens on ... ...but when you see the quality of the images that it can produce, you know it's worth it. The constant f/2.8 aperture allows you to really throw the background out of focus with gorgeous bokkeh (blur quality), while keeping your subject in focus. In conjunction with the Image Stabilisation feature, the lens allows you to take pictures in lower light situations that you previously may have missed.
