3 Stars A slightly less explosive Canon. Review with images 08/09/2008

Advantages Advantages Typically good Canon images.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option ... more

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, Small, good price, good value, very easy to use, very good starter camera

Disadvantages Disadvantages doesn't have all the features you might expect or want from an entry level DSLR

The canon eos 1000d - I know what your're thinking. Its a beginners camera. Its cheap (well, as cheap as an SLR can be) and doesn't pack the punch of some of the models higher up in the food chain like the 600D. But that doesn't mean it isn't a great beginners camera, and a fantastic value piece of kit. Okay, so the 10.1 mega pixel CMOS sensor is less than impressive, and the somewhat plasticky feel of the camera body may reflect the price fairly accurately, but lets face it. It takes pictures. That's what a camera is supposed to do. Right? But considering the devastatingly fast advances of ... more

Advantages Advantages Price, Image Quality, Compatible Lenses, Range of Features

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't offer the range of features available on high end DSLR cameras

The Canon EOS1000D is the perfect start for anyone wanting to get into the world of digital SLR photography. For the price you get a basic DSLR that is compatible with almost every canon lense and accessory produced. This means that you can achieve exceptional photographic results using the 1000D's body and any lense that you purchase. If you are just starting out i would reccommend the EF-S 18-55mm IS and EF-S 55-250mm IS lenses as exceelent starter lenses and will provide you with a combined focal range that you is unlikely to be not enough for any usual photography. The picture quality is ... more

Advantages Advantages 10.1 megapixel sensor, live view mode, great value for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages slow at 3fps, no autofocus on live view mode

Hi, I´m an enthusiastic photographer who is currently studying to become proffessional. I can personally say that the canon eos 1000d is one of the best cameras on the market for what it´s worth. It´s a great all-round camera that can be used by an amateur who´s never touched a camera, simply by putting it on program or auto. It´s also a very capable piece of equipment if you wish to take matters into you´re own hands and use all the manual features. As far as the picture quality is concerned, I think that it´s 10.1 megapixel sensor is sufficient enough for anyone who wants to print anything ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Easy to use, Great picture quality, Canon product

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A Bit basic

First off I am a keen photographer and this is my second SLR camera, the first being the Olympus E-410. Ease of Use : This camera has to be one of the easiest to use in the world, the menus are easy to understand and the buttons are clearly labeled, after using I feel that it is defiantly a beginners SLR, as the smaller and cheaper E-410 I had before was a bit more difficult to use (although maybe it was just made to be overly complicated), anyway I feel that this camera would be perfect of both a beginner or an experienced photographer. Look, Design: Although slightly bulky this has to be one ... more

Advantages Advantages light compact good camera

    Disadvantages Disadvantages annoying sized usb

I think this camera is actually amazing. I'm really weak and found SLRs really annoying to use because my arms just ached after a while, but this camera is light weight and works just as well as any of the really heavy ones! Its also a reasonable size so no more having to take a HUGE camera anywhere. I would recommend the camera to beginners rather than people experienced in photography. It is quite simple how to use it, and then there's always auto mode for people who might not feel as adventurous with playing with things like the aperture. I fully recommend this camera it is worth the money ... more

Advantages Advantages Light Weight, Compact, Full Manual Control, Interchangeable Lenses

Disadvantages Disadvantages Max ISO - 1600, Poor Grip, Small Screen, No Movie Recording

The canon EOS 1000D is a suitable entry level camera, and aimed at the consumer rather than the professional, it has high specification for today's standards and will easily allow the photographer to get great prints up to A3 size. The camera comes in many package deals, I got mine with Canon Non IS lenses and received a 18-55mm and 75-300mm kit lens kit, all for under £500. Personally for me I found the camera when holding it to be a small camera and limited grip, also the screen found on the rear could be a lot bigger considering the canon 450D is the same size body and offers a 3" screen ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Easy To Use, Great Quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

This Camera is quite frankly fantastic for the price of it. At £300 it is definately at the low end of the SLR range but by no means does that reflect in the photos. It is so much better than standard digital cameras. And it is well worth spending the extra few pounds. I have not had any trouble with my Canon 1000d at all. It is great for landscape photos, gig photos, family photos. I take it on every outing and holiday and it will capture every glorius moment and leave me with some great memories. It is my first SLR but i am very impressed it's quality and diverse range of photos which you ... more

Advantages Advantages Good price, Great first DSLR

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly noisy images over 400 ISO

I was hesitant to purchase this over a Nikon, coming from a family of Nikon users. The Nikon D40 is certainly a worth nemesis, but the Canon has the overall edge. The selection of lenses on offer are far greater than the D40 for a start. Also far more third party companies make lenses for Canon models than their rivals. Picture quality is sublime. Nothing to fault, although the images do get a bit noisy if you run the camera higher than 400 ISO. Ergonomically its very nice to handle. Although some people with larger hands may benefit from the battery grip. Durability is good, Canon make solid ... more
