Advantages: Great strong body, professional features, great performance. Disadvantages: Now a succeded by the 30D, smallish screen that can sometimes be hard to see in direct sunlight.
The Canon 20D is awesome. No doubt about it. It was my first step into DSLR territory after years with film slrs and I can't believe I didnt make the change sooner. Firstly, if you familiar with SLR's and especially canon's (as i was) you'll have no problem picking this camera and getting to grips with it within half an hour. Ok so some of the more technical things this camera allows you to do, like the Auto WB Bracketing etc may take you a little ... ...not the camera.
The Canon 20D will definately not hold you back. Its creative possibilties are endless. For those of you still using the scene modes, dont worry, they're still here but are alongside fully manual and partially manual modes (ie shutter priority, aperture priority etc.) to give you full creative control. Another great thing about this cam is its build quality. Simply put its built like a tank and wont be falling apart any time soon. ...

...up from my much loved Canon Powershot A70 point and shoot camera to play with the big boys and telephoto lenses on a digital SLR.
Before I bought the Canon EOS 20D I did a lot of research into different digital SLR cameras and the only bad comment I could find about the EOS 20D (apart from the price tag ) was that the on/off switch was fiddly.
Well the switch is a little fiddly but the camera has an excellent power management system and almost ... ...than that of my little Canon A70.
When I first had the camera I took hundreds of photos (oh the joy of digital) in the fully automatic mode and the basic modes and was delighted with the results. The camera uses top level technology for the automatic modes which enables even a novice photgrapher to get great results (obviously the camera can't alter composition but apart from that..). The photographs I have taken with the EOS 20D seem much more ...

I bought a Canon 20D after years and years as a semi-pro photographer, working for a public school on their publicity shots. I therefore had a large number of Canon-fit lenses and wanted a digital camera that would utilise them.
Hence my buying a Canon 20D a year ago. For reasons even I do not fully understand, I bought two! :-0
My first impressions were that Canon had, once again, done their usual trick of making a camera that is all but unuseable ... ...think it is misguided of Canon to make older flashes not compatible - yes too.
If you have £1000 to spend on a camera and have Canon-fit lenses in your bag, then this is, without question, the camera for you.
Oh, and one other point. Taking pictures is easy with this camera, but the procesing of 200+ shots on your PC at the end of an afternoon's shooting, to get 50 suitable for public viewing, is very, very time-consuming! Allow 5mins or so for ...

...been an owner of the Canon 10D for over a year, common sense was thrown out of the window... I sold the 10D and bought the 20D and haven't looked back!
Firstly, price: in Sept of 2004, I bought this from Jessops for £1000 (Body only). Even now, that's still a good price!
When you first take the 20D out of it's box, the first thing you notice is the feel of it. It feels chunky but also feels well built, unlike the 300/ 350D, it's cheaper cousins. ... ...and it's obvious canon have spent time placing all the buttons in the right place. Everything falls to hand, and you don't have to take your eye away from the camera to know what you are doing!
Speaking of which, the view finder. I have used cameras with brighter view finders, but, to be honest, it doesn't really matter as the auto focusing is great anyway (more of that later), and you can instantly view the pictures on the screen anyway! There ...

Is Canon 20D excellent camera? Now, after two months of using it, should say testing it, after taking few thousands of pictures in different situations: porters, landscapes, flowers, during the days and nights, I must say… yes! Canon 20D is my 3rd Canon camera but firs digital from Canon stable (12th in general, yes have done few pics). Canon products have always been excellent quality in picture processing. My other Canon cameras were: 500 and 50E (the last one was excellent camera with eye control device - state of art; wish the 20D had it). Both of them were great, but none of them can even compare to 20D. That monster (did I just say that?) is great ...

...--------
Had my Canon EOS 20D for a couple of weeks now, and having snapped about 500 times I think its quite a big improvement on the 10D.
Obvious changes:
its slightly smaller, though it does not seem to be any lighter once the battery is in;
better and noticeably quicker 9 point auto-focusing;
more powerful battery with a charge life of upto 1000 shots an increase of a third;
three position power switch removes need for a second switch which ... ...have tried the camera with Canon f/4 300 lens with and without a 1.4x Extender II, with a Tamron 28-300 XR with 1.4x Tamrom extender, and with the new Tamron 200-500Di with 1.4x extender. Start-up time - wow! Focussing definitely quicker and easier to make it shift if the chosen object isn't what you meant. Resultant images all look fine with apparently similar noise levels to the 10d on high ISO settings - just taken some ISO 3200 images in as dusk ...

I am a professional photographer and use a 20D as one of my backups. This is an excellent semi pro camera that is user friendly enough for any beginner. With image quality suitable for printing up to A2 from a RAW file. I would strongly recommend shooting in RAW wherever possible as the JPEG compression can be very limiting for post shoot editing and any image correction you may need to apply.

Advantages: Semi-pro dSLR camera, fast AF, good control of Creative Zones Disadvantages: None that I've found yet
Canon have once again come good with the semi-pro EOS 20D digital SLR camera. I upgraded to the 20D after having a 300D for the past 12 months. Immediately you can feel the better build quality, the magnesium body is more rugged than the plastic 300D body, and the lens mount is more positive when attaching lenses.
I photograph a lot of motor sports, and where this camera really comes into it's own is in the speed of the AF mechanism with it's 9-point ... ...the size of the internal buffer (no more waiting around for the buffer to clear before taking more shots) and the very short power-up time (no more missed shots waiting for the camera to power-up). One big benefit over and above the 300D is a ability to use AI Servo in all of the creative modes.
The power of the dSLR camera comes into its own when shooting in RAW. This allows you to use software to manipulate the images to get them just the way ...

Advantages: Image Quality, Feel and Ergonomics Disadvantages: Size and weight (but not bad for a D-SLR)
The Canon 20D is the fourth DSLR of the xxD line by Canon, which now contains 6 cameras. In my opinion the 20D is one of the best, for a number of reasons. The 8mp sensor allows prints to be made at A3 size or more, while reducing noise in the images.
