Advantages Advantages Price, compatability, Canon quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Want to use all the time, cost of accessories

Sometime around the middle of November 2003 something quite amazing happened. For the first time a company started producing a digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera for under £1,000 – for an amateur photographer this starts to make it interesting. Not only was it well under £1,000 in the shops, but on EBay you could even get it for less than £800 – granted this was for a US import, Canon Digital Rebel which is the same as the EOS300D, but as it was in the UK so no risk of customs charges I decided that now was the time to go seriously digital. Choosing the Canon EOS300D was influenced by a ... more

Advantages Advantages Canon quality, image quality, weight, price

Disadvantages Disadvantages Easily scratchable, lens adaptions (see below), no film grain

Before i start let me explain he differances between the Canon 300D and 300V- 300V - A mid range Canon FILM SLR (single lens reflex). this camera takes all kinds of colour / black and white / transparency etc. film but is NOT digital 300D - the subject of this review, the 300D is also a mid range Canon SLR but this version is Digital. Meaning that any pictures you take on the camera are stored on a compact flash card instead of film. Now that the difference is obvious i will give a little technical detail for people who just want the facts. Dimensions (WxDxH) - 14.2 cm x 7.2 cm x 9.9 cm Weight ... more

    Advantages Advantages SLR speed, versatility

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Size, weight

I have had a Canon EOS1000N for some years, and then went over to digital in the shape of a Minolta 304. However I really wanted to get back to the SLR world, so the 300D was an exciting prospect. I am aware that Canon is not the only one making a digital SLR, and that they have been around in the professional world for a few years now, but the 300D is the cheapest of the new lot of digital SLRs. Incidentally don't be fooled by Nikon's equivalent. It doesn't come with a lens as standard, which pushes the real price well over the £1000 mark. For that sum you may as well get a Canon 10D and be ... more

Advantages Advantages Great autofocus and exposure performance. LCD screen. Can work with microdrives.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Build. Not to a traditional SLR build standards.

Canon, as many of you know, is one of the three photo gear giant manufactures alongside Nikon and Minolta (now Konica-Minolta). Canon has made some of the best SLRs in history. Now, deep into the digital era, The Japanese brand aims This EOS 300 D to the advanced amateur photographer who wants or need to shift to digital without spending a fortune on more pro oriented stuff. BUILD AND ERGONOMICS Everybody who’s been deep enough in this big worl of photography knows that you pay for what you get. I mean your 1500 pounds will buy you an almost indestructible Nikon F5. But with 200 you’ll surely ... more

Advantages Advantages Fairly easy to use with full auto mode to fall back on.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Frustrating in certain situations for those wanting to use the cameras creative modes.

I have craved a DSLR for years now and finally my dream came true in the form of the Canon 300D. Having used the film version of this camera to great effect I was really excited to get my hands on what has been reported to be the best 'prosumer' or entry level digital camera. As you would expect the build quality and ergonomics are first class, the controls are clear and easy to operate. The menu functions are well laid out and understandable even for a digital novice. The camera came with an 18 - 55mm lens that does a good job and the Tamron 70 - 300mm zoom, which was also part of the package ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ease of Use

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None so far

Why choose the Canon EOS 300D. I have three digital cameras And this is by far the best as it is an SLR type and will Accept other lenses. This can lead to a drawback in the size of transport case for the camera and all the lenses. However you have to decide what you wish to photograph before you start. It is a process of compromise.I E number of lenses against their combined weight. The bayonet fit makes for a fast change of lens to suit a changing situation. We are not all professional photographers. Most of us are just using the camera on our holidays and want to record a passing sight or ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap for the quality of the output, wide range of features, all EOS lenses fit

Disadvantages Disadvantages Body is a little 'plasticky', focal lengths are multiplied slightly

I decided to go digital when a decent camera came down below the £1000 price bracket. I have been a traditional photographer for many years and trying out a compact digital camera I missed the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and having complete control of aperture and shutter speed that you have with a traditional single lens reflex camera. I owned a Canon EOS300 with a couple of lenses so I knew what the Canon cameras were capable of, when the 300D arrived I decided it was time to move. The camera is very similar to the traditional EOS300 in that most of the controls are the same and in ... more

Advantages Advantages High quality images, multiple settings

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No viewfinder

I bought this camera in 2005, because my course required alot of digital photography and my photography tutor recomended it. As I'm not a proffessional photographer, at first I felt slighty anxious about all the different settings and buttons, however after I got to grips with it, i soon found it was quite easy to use. I now use it for family events, as the picture quality is extreemly good and better than cheaper camers I've seen. The menu is very easy to navigate and change to which ever setting you want. The dial on the top left gives a whole variety of modes, including 'sports' 'night ... more

Advantages Advantages Hi res digital images with the flexibility of an SLR

Disadvantages Disadvantages No viewfinder (because it's SLR)

Many amateur photographers that have adopted digital photography have been waiting for an SLR (single lens reflex) camera at a reasonable price. If you are happy with snapshots, then lots of digital cameras will do the job and give you hi-res images - normally up to about 4 mega pixel. The main benefits of the EOS 300D are: Ability to interchange lenses (your other EOS lenses will fit) Very hi res (6.3MP) The battery is great - the CMOS sensor does not cause a big drain. I took over 100 shots - most with flash - and there was still juice to spare The recharger will recharge the battery in ... more
