Review of Canon EOS 350D by missixty

Advantages: Image quality, speed, price (for this kind of camera), weight, size, battery live, customisable features and buttons
Disadvantages: Small veiw finder, ISO information unavailable in view finder

...been relatively happy with my Canon A300 camera (putting up with a few minor annoyances) as it produced great pictures for what I need. I take pictures just for personal use. My brother however recently bought this, the Canon EOS 350D and after seeing the exceptional results I couldn't help but have a play round with it (all in the name of research!) ...this and it's predecessor the Canon Eos 300D. It now feels more robust, slightly lighter and more compact. Infact one of the first things I noticed about this camera was how small it was. It is bigger than your regular digital camera but for these kind of proffesional ones it's small enough for even me with my tiny hands to operate easily. The rubber grip is harder and the mode dial is metal. All in all this feels like a well built camera. LOOKS ... Read review

Diamond review   Canon EOS 350D - He He !!!
Review of Canon EOS 350D by a4angus

Advantages: Compact, fast, quality images
Disadvantages: Poor screen view in sunlight

******************* Canon EOS 350D ******************* The time had come to bite the bullet and go completely digital. No, not me - just my camera. Out went film and folders. Out went my trusty old Canon EOS 50E, which had served me well for many years, and in came the latest toy. Already having a Canon S9000 photo printer (prints A3 size photo poster prints) and another compact digital camera, I was geared up for the change. That, and it *was* ...
...sturdy as the higher end Canon cameras). The switches all move solidly and feel positive in their action. Some are a little plasticky - evidence of cost cutting, but reflected in the price. The on switch is easily to hand, the camera starts up and is ready to shoot in less than a second (a big improvement over the older 300D). The Canon autofocus lens (28-80mm) I use for general shots is light and well balanced to the camera. Press the shutter ... Read review

Disadvantages: No sync lead for external flash units.

...screen - also with a canon shoulder bag - the main disadvantage of which is that it says "CANON" on the side, a great advert for potential muggers! Also included are 3 CDs of software. I have only loaded the basic picture package up so far, as I already have plenty of image software on my laptop. The software I've loaded is mainly for organising and storing the pictures to your computer. The other CDs contain image manipulation software - but I already ...

All the features of the camera are explained in very easy to understand terms - "if you want to do this, press this button, then this button... etc" - there is also a quick-start guide, which tells you how to fit the lens and battery into the camera as well as the strap - which was the most fiddly bit! - and then ... If you want to know the fastest compact flash cards for the camera, check out Rob Galbraith's site (robgalbraith.com) and search for the 350D database. This will provide an indication of the best memory cards to buy with the camera for speed. Obviously i can't provide direct links in this review, but if you want to find something then ...
...many people assume that the Canon 350D in auto mode will take 3 x better pictures than, say, an S1 because it has three times more megapixels and is about 3 x more expensive. This is NOT the case. Photography is more about who is behind the camera than the camera itself. Proof of this can be found on DPreview's forums, where some professionals use 300Ds (the camera before the 350D) and get outstanding results. The quality of photos differs greatly ... Read review

Great for beginners & advanced amateurs.
Review of Canon EOS 350D by parrydave

Advantages: small & lightweight, excellent image quality, good menus, battery life
Disadvantages: small view finder, no ISO indicator, LCD difficult to see outdoors

...Previously I used a Canon EOS 50E with a 28-105mm lens. I had wanted to move to digital for some time and was pretty sure I wanted to stay with Canon (but did consder Nikon too). However, I was torn between getting at top end "prosumer" compact like the Canon G6 or S70, or pulling out all the stops and getting the 350D. The G6/S70 route had a number of attractions, cost and size being at the top of the list. But the flexibilty of a DSLR was really ...
...a hand blower (as per Canon instructions) but to get rid of all dust you really need to swab the sensor, quite nerve-wrecking process! Search internet for the "Copperhill" process for more info. To see if you have a dusty sensor, stop down to f22, shoot a blank piece of sky, then apply "Auto-levels" in whatever imaging package you use. In conclusion: A great bit of kit. Takes really good photos and is great for seasoned amateurs as well as those ... Read review

SONY DSCR1 does it beat DSLRs at similar price?
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 by  executivedistributor

Advantages: Fantastic pictures, features, battery life, memory stick AND CF, battery life, no dust, moveable LCD.
Disadvantages: Size, timer button (see review below), cant swap lenses.

...cameras in the Sony DSC range. I do not know why Sony decided to not include this function on the DSC R1. Secondly (and only a minor criticism) the timer is annoying as you have to keep switching it on before each timed shot. I use this function regularly and combined with my tripod, eliminates camera shake. Annoying to have to remember to switch timer on before each picture. My Cannon EOS 350d timer stayed "on" shot after shot until you switched it off which was much better. My only other grievance was the size of the camera. Although I acknowledge that Sony have crammed a lot into the camera, I must say it is too big for my small hands. I must confess I preferred the grip on my much smaller Cannon EOS 350D. I liked the fact that Sony has had the insight to accept CF cards as well as memory sticks which is definitely a plus point... Read review

Review of Ewa-marine U-A Underwater SLR Camera Housing by  amartin13

Advantages: Watertight, Floats very easily, Safe
Disadvantages: Floats very easily, "The Scare Factor", space for the flash

...and a neck strap. Will it fit my camera? I was lucky enough to be able to visit a local supplier to try this kit out and see if my camera would fit. The U-A will take a entry level / normal sized SLR such as the canon EOS 350D or 400D with or without a grip/ drive and a standard 18-55mm / 28-70mm lens. Please note that on a 350D the pop up flash will still pop, and can be used, but the effects on something like this are very limited underwater. The UA should fit any SLR Camera no more than 135mm high, with a lens no wider than 80mm and a back to front of lens measurement (fully extended) of 170mm. The lens barrel part of the kit is extendable and so will allow you to use a twist zoom lens, but manual focusing is likely to be difficult. Zooming will be fiddly, but can be done. The dry run...
