...placed on the body. Canon have decided to put it between the grip where your hand goes, and the lens. When shooting, this is normally either obscured by your fingers or shaded by the lens or the grip, resulting in a poor analysis of the actual colour temperature. That’s really enough about the creative controls for now, without boring you silly. I hope I’ve given you a taste of just how much you can do with even this “entry-level” ... ...of creative expression. The Canon EOS 400D is a truly superb amateur/semi-pro camera and you would not regret buying it. That said, I recommend you read as many reviews as you can lay yours eyes on. Advantages: Price, image quality, user friendly Disadvantages: The body is a bit too small for my hands!
When Canon first introduced their EOS300D three years ago they promised that it would be a turning point in the history of photography. To be honest it did just that and this is now Canons third incarnation in in their entry level D-SLR line-up. So, can it hold the flame for Canon still?
In one simple, honest answer I believe it's a big 'YES'. Having actually owned a 300D since they were first released I decided it was time to upgrade after three ... ...of performance from it. Canon certainly haven't cut corners in terms of the quality and functions, you can be sure of that, and it can produce stunning, high class images in a variety of situations. The 400D boasts a 10.1 mega-pixel CMOS sensor, which apparently produces detailed images of up to A3 size however I have prints up to A0 (poster size) from my old 300D (6.5 mega-pixels) with no apparent loss in quality so the 400D will be able to match ...

First of all, if you are familiar with either the 300D/Rebel, or more so, the 350D/Rebel XT, then you will be familiar with the 400D/Rebel XTi, they are very similar cameras, with progressive growth through the generations. The latest installment, ... ...* Canon DUST removal system
These are the prominent differences that you will notice between this and the 350D, and they are the major ones that Canon makes an effort to point out. I can say though, that there are other, slightly less important, and less publicised differences, such as a better thumb grip and hook, different mode dial, different material, (similar solidity, but different feel, nicer in my opinion).
I think I must make it clear, ...

Review EOS 400d
The canon 400D is a good camera - for the price it's a great camera. It's relatively compact; lightweight; comes with an adequate lens; has programmed settings for novices - like portrait and landscape modes; but also offers manual control of apertures, shutter speeds, white balance, ISO… so that the more experienced photographers can have fun and be a little more creative. One item to note if you are upgrading from a digital compact ... ...on newer, or more sophisticated Canon bodies, as your skill increases. If you have around £400 to spend on a digital SLR this is certainly one to consider. With this camera and a quality lens you should be able to produce images up to A3 size.
For the price and for a first SLR I highly recommend it. ...

...it for. The Canon EOS 400D is a perfect camera for almost everyones needs. Only a dedicated professional photographer that plans on investing in a large number of lenses should be paying more than £600 for a camera base unit. ...in late 2006 - the Canon EOS 400D and the Nikon D50. In my view, these eclipsed virtually all of the other offerings by being bang up to date and having some really useful features. (Many photography reviewers agree).

The camera can be used for practice without a memory card, so whilst I was waiting for the card I could practise with the camera once the battery was charged (about 4 hours).

...SLR cameras around; NIkon and Canon have always been head to head with their visual range of products. The Canon EOS 400D is good for both amateurs and professionals, you may even say it is simply fool-proof, which is sometimes what Nikon isn't (the D50 certainly isn't at times anyway =s ) everything is just beautiful that comes out of it. Even the shutter clicking sound is beautiful.

...as the type of consumer Canon has targeted with this camera, and its predecessors the 300D and the 350D.
As I write this people have two options, to buy a 400D or to buy a 350D, the 350D being obviously cheaper. I had to make this decision and frankly it just came down to the LCD size at the back for me and to some extent the self cleaning mechanism.

Having had a Canon EOS 350D, when the 400D was launched I was so confident of the brand that it was a forgone conclusion that I would buy one. The build quality is the first positive point. It is such a solid camera, not that you would bash it on purpose, but it'll certainly take a few knocks without any problems. The 18-55mm kit lens that I got with mine is also pretty good. This does feel a little cheaply made in comparison to the camera, but it ... ...SLR. Advantages: Compatable with huge range of Canon accesories, build quality, ease of use, loads of features Disadvantages: No spot metering, kit lens a little cheap
I've had this camera for eighteen months, and bought it to replace my trusty old EOS 1000. This allowed me to use my existing USM lenses, though do bear in mind that the focal lengths do change when using digital SLRs. The camera feels well built, and has not given me any trouble so far. Some reviewers complain about the small size, well I have large hands but have found the camera easy to use and well laid out.
A welcome feature missing from my ... ...less welcome omission however is spot metering. The camera is packed full of features including 'coloured' filters for black and white pictures. The menu system is easy to navigate, although it can be defficult to remember where some of the features are to be found. However the intruction book is both very comprehensive and well written.
The standard kit lens does not feel as well built as my older USM ones, and this is an obvious cost cutting measure. ...

...it's certainly not one that canon has taken half-heartedly. Not only does the Canon EOS 400D raise the pixels count of Canon's entry-level DSLR to 10 million pixels, but it also inherits the same nine-point AF system used in the high-end EOS 30D and 5D and, for the first time, features a three-stage dust prevention/reduction system.

I bought this camera with a standard lens about two years ago. It's a good introductory camera for someone who wants to learn about digital photography but also wants a fairly decent piece of equipment that will give very nice results in terms of amateur photography. ...whopping 10.1 mega pixels. Next, Canon has improved the EOS series by introducing a nifty little bit of technology called 'Self Cleansing Sensor Unit' to avoid those dusty little bits that get into the lens.
